Lovely to see this, and listen to you as Americans. Me and my family are citizens of High Chaparral. That means that we are all dressed up in clothes that was typical of the time. We don´t work there, but you can say that we are a sort of extras. Like the one at the background in movies. We make the city more alive. We come and go as we want to, and do what we want to, and we love it!

Oh wow - brought back a lot of fun memories. I used to work there in the late 1970's. Thanks for making this video. 🔫🚂🐎🍻😘

the Swedes are big on westerns ... there are a lot of square dance and line dance groups and they also have a lot of country bands ... I do not know why but it's obviously something that speaks to them ...

Yes, High Chapparal is a really nice place and it has definitely grown since I was there. It is a fine examples of special places in Sweden "in the midst of nowhere". another place of this kind is "Gekås" in Ullared. Then to a much more important thing ;-). High Chapparal is in no way "in the middle of Sweden". It it to the very south of Sweden. Going to the North of Sweden would take around 24 hours of continious driving.

Must be 30 years since I was to High Chaparral last. From what I remember, there was much less asphalt back then, than what is seems like now. Still have some mementos from that visit in some box here somewhere. Just found an ad from mid 80s that brings back a lot of memories, "High Chaparral Reklam 80-tal".

In case you don't know, "High Chapparal" was a US Western TV-series in the late 60s and early 70s, which was very popular in Sweden - and we would often sneak view from Eastern (!) DK for free as well, because we only had one ( often very boring ) TV-channel back then, whereas Sweden next door had two (!) that typically had more "great" TV series, movies and sports etc. So Danes of those generations from the East of DK are therefore often pretty good at understanding Swedish, as we would be exposed to hearing it a lot as well as reading the Swedish subtitles for international TV-series and movies (mainly in English), which just looked like slightly poorly spelled and broken Danish most of the time with the odd weird word and expression in between here and there. Nowadays most kids in DK - and in Sweden as well - don't really bother "studying" the closely related language of their neighbour country in this clever and almost subconcious way, because they have so many other TV-channels to chose from on cable and on the internet - a real shame if you ask me 😢 So you can now meet many younger people from Eastern DK and from (SW) Sweden - below the ages of 35 - 40 - , who will proudly (!) claim that they don't really have a clue about Swedish ( as if it was some completely unrelated language like Japanese or Swahili 🙄 ) - and vice versa about Danish - , when they could act. be able to learn it fairly easily within a few months - and then know what to listen up for. Just hearing the very catchy theme tune from the High Chapparal TV-series brings up a lot of great memories for me 😉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4SwaGern8meqZY

Quite a wild west setup they have in Sweden. I remember many years ago, at least 40 years. Lego land had a small wild west cowboy town, not much. But as at kid it looked just like the movies we saw in the TV. I dont know if that exists any more.

Denmark has a very small version of High Chaparral too, located in Kramnitze, Lolland. It's actually a campsite called Western Camp. The entrance area is a western town square with tables, benches and a stage, and during the summer season they offer free country performances a couple of times per week, alternating with "country discos" - in the afternoons, there are often linedance workshops. They also have a nice little saloon. The camp site itself is also western themed with wooden huts and sections like "the prairie" etc. but unlike the town square area, which has free access, the main camp site is, of course, only open to customers. Quite a few people dressed up in western costumes, there's a sheriff, some bandits and "train" offering rides around the camp site for the kids. The train would constantly get robbed by the bandits, and the sheriff would then take care of them and lead them to the jail at the town square, accompanied by wild cheers from the kids. Oh, by the way, Western Camp featured shortly in the latests season of house-builder program "Sommerdrømme"

Poor Brisket. One could see how scarred he was at the trainride, he was shaking. Now when the summer finally is here and if you plan any more trip to sweden i suggest you visit Visby, Gotland (Gotland is an island) Visby is an old town first time mentioned 1200. It was an importent town from the Hansa period.

And, when waiting for the ferry to Gotland in Oskarshamn, do visit the "Döderhultar- and Maritime Museum", at the Library! Axel Petersson, "Döderhultarn", was a fantastic giftet maker of small wooden figures and a collection of his works, also the naughty one, is to be seen there! I have visited it several times from Denmark, as we had it for a loan in Glyptoteket, many years ago!

"Big Bengt" Erlandsson the founder wished to build a 120 m high statue of himself with a restaurant in the head. The authorities turned him down. The head would be visible over the tree tops. Who would care. It's in the middle of nowhere with enormous forests surrounding it. A long way from any major settlements. I personally admired Bengts can-do attitude!
