When I left my country, Venezuela, the food aisles looked similar... kinda scary, but considering the history of the Feroes, I hope its going to get better. PAY THE WORKERS! great video greg

It isn’t entirely uncommon for strikes to make the stores look like this. I experienced it twice in the 19 years I lived there (I live in Denmark now), but this is probably the most extensive strike ever, so it affects gasoline and other things as well, which never happened before. As soon as the unions reach an agreement, everything will be back to normal in a couple of weeks. :)

I can’t understand why the goverment is not taken action, because this will have an impact of their own people and the economy.

Personally, I’m coming to the Faroe Islands in 4 weeks just really hope the strike is over when I arrive 😅

Thank you for the video 🙏🙏 it's very helpful to have up to date information to say how things are at the moment. It is difficult to get this from official sources. I'm due to visit in 10 days and I think I will have to cancel/reschedule 😢 How long are you staying? Do you think you can make another video later to update people before you leave?

I’m Faroese (but I live in Denmark). I’ve followed the news and I don’t think the strikes will be over in 10 days. Bargaining has completely stopped for the time being, and it will take around 2 weeks at least to go back to normal afterwards, because there are only supply deliveries two times a week for food and such. They are currently talking about involving even more unions in the strikes as “sympathy strikes.”

Hi! We are a group of three friends travelling this Friday and staying until Wednesday, 12th. What do you recommend?

I just arrived today (June 4) . I brought as much food as I could pack (pasta, bread, instant oatmeal, breakfast bars, crackers, instant coffee and prepard food (7-11 wraps) from the Copenhagen airport. The cottage I am staying in has a full kitchen. My Budget rental car came with a half tank of fuel good for 226 km, so I will only see about half of the Faroes as the service stations have no fuel for a refill. It is beautifull here and I am glad I did not cancel this trip. I hope this is helpful informaiton.

Hello Gregory, I appreciate the info for tourists. I'm planning to visit my bf in July, the first 2 weeks. You think by that time the strike will be over?

Hi! Yes I think the strike will be over. The locals said yesterday that the workers union should be financially able to sustain the strike for about six weeks. Of course I recommend you to keep looking for news!

Hopefully, the strike will be over soon, BUT nobody other than the key personnel doing the union negations knows how long the strike will last. What locals guess is just a guess. Many things indicate the strike might end soon as preasure to end it increases, but at the same time much more indicates it might last way more than 3 weeks. Once the strike lasted 6-7 weeks. So it is just a guess when people predict it will end xx week.

We are in Iceland right now and are scheduled to fly to the Faroe Islands tomorrow (in less than 12 hours). We planned to drive around for a week. It sounds like we probably should not get on the flight and stay in Iceland… It sounds like there is too much of a risk of not being able to get around. What do you think?

Hi! I think you'll be safer not to come. I don't know if you were able to get the guarantee to have a rental car with full tank but it seems more and more impossible. Or you can have an electric car. Absolutely ALL the service stations are out of gasoline. The only ones from effo with a limited amount available are all on Suderoy island, you have to take a ferry to go there. We have decided today not to go to Suderoy as planned in our trip, because of the risk that the ferries stop when we are there. And we have food supply to cook until we flight back to Copenhagen. My advise at this point is not to come now until the strike is over. It will become more and more complicated here.

If you know, is the bus running from the airport to the city?

Unfortunately, from what I see on ssl.fo the route 350 between Torshavn and the airport is not operating at all.
