I live close to traveller ground zero in North Wales. I'll be more than happy to take anyone on a tour of the MASSIVE property empire (we're talking mega millions) they have accrued over the past decade or so. The council let them build a site anywhere then give them retrospective planning permission whilst a typical local homeowner will be hounded, bound up in red tape then denied something as simple as a dropped kerb to access their property. They have such a foothold in the area it beggers belief and you have to see it for yourself. They operate with impunity. Police and council essentially wash their hands and shrug off any complaint involving members of their community. They all drive brand new Ford Ranger Raptors and New Land Rover Defenders but not one of them has a driving license. Would you or I get away with that? I've had my own business targeted multiple times, nothing was ever done about it. One of them sold cocaine and marijuana opposite my business for at least three years and multiple calls a week to police about it fell on deaf ears and was essentially swept under the carpet. He was still at it when I wound up my business after the lockdowns. I have personally witnessed two rival groups have a machete/hammer fight in a local takeaway where customers had to literally hide under the tables. I've also had self proclaimed king Paddy threaten to shoot me in a local pub because I got served at the bar first "I got a gun boi I'll feckn shoot ye" The kids strut about the area acting the big I am, hassling and intimidating local kids, including my own. They walk out all the local supermarkets with trolleys full of shopping they haven't paid for. The kids run in and out of shops with handfuls of whatever they can grab. You stand there flabbergasted at what you've just witnessed whilst the staff just shrug their shoulders and say what can we do about it. I've had a local policeman and a senior member of the local authority confide in me, basically they've been told to leave the Traveller community alone as best they can, just leave them to it. They portray themselves as the perpetual victim. When the reality couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, I can point you to a long, long list of their victims. They are most definitely blessed when It comes to two tier policing and just about every other policy, rule, regulation etc that the rest of society has to adhere to. Too many people in the UK with little to no experience of this group look upon them through rose tinted glasses. They are a steadily growing group that exist on the fringes of normal decent society where normal rules don't apply. They are heavily involved in just about every gangland criminal activity you can think of. And I'm not even gonna mention the modern day slavery. I could go on and on. This is the tip of the iceberg. One thing I do know, this "community" should never have been left to take a foothold in mainland UK.

I love travelling around Manchester with you Charlie, it’s changed dramatically since I worked at Kendals on Deansgate in the late 60’s. It’s very sad though looking at Piccadilly gardens nowadays. As for the travellers getting thrown of land, most law abiding people don’t expect to park up on private or government land without permission or paying. But that might be overlooked for a while if they didn’t have a few in the group then set about knicking cars, breaking and entering premises, stealing from local shops, then when they move leaving thousands of pounds worth of rubbish and vandalism in their wake. So for a maybe slightly more than 50% of them the nearly 50% of them are just trouble and not wanted making the slightly more than 50% have to put up with locals venting their anger and closing their businesses to travellers.
