Күн бұрын

I'm now in Melbourne, Victoria. In the past 12 months, I reviewed regional trains in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia, I have also travelled on Journey Beyond's luxury trains, namely the Ghan, Indian Pacific and Great Southern.
However, I didn't get to pay much attention to V/Line services here in Australia. Therefore, after a few hours of planning in front of my laptop, today I've come up with an idea of travelling on every type of passenger train in the current V/Line fleet in one day!
As of 4 May 2022, V/Line passenger train fleet include:
Broad gauge VLocity (3VL0-3VL28, 3VL30-3VL75, 3VR76-3VR79, 3VL80-3VL92)
Standard gauge VLocity (3VS93-3VS94)
Broad gauge Sprinter
Broad gauge N set
Standard gauge N set
Broad gauge H set
Z type carriage (incorporated into the N sets)*
My plan for this challenge is to catch 8 trains:
5:13am - 5:58am Melbourne - Bacchus Marsh (Broad VLocity)
6:19am - 7:14am Bacchus Marsh - Melbourne (Broad H set)
7:46am - 8:45am Melbourne - Geelong (Broad N set, First Class)
9:30am - 10:35am Geelong - Melbourne (Broad VLocity)
1:36pm - 2:59pm Melbourne - Seymour (Broad Sprinter)
3:09pm - 4:40pm Seymour - Melbourne (Standard N set, Economy Class)
5:33pm - 7:11pm Melbourne - Seymour (Broad Sprinter)
7:44pm - 9:45pm Seymour - Melbourne (Standard VLocity)
I'll start my day at4:30am, if everything goes smoothly, I'll be able to finish my day by10:00pm. How did I go? You can find out in this video!!
This video was filmed on 14 April 2022, a few footages were filmed on 13, 15, 26 and 27 April 2022.
00:00 Introduction - Southern Cross Station
02:30 Myki card vs. Paper ticket

Hi Rory, the toilet announcing about locking the door is an accessability feature added after there were many issues with people not being able to know if the door was locked. It was a great thing to have come along, I was part of the group who argued for it with one of the conductors and a few other people.

Great stuff. In NSW we also have new trains that were designed with the input of drivers, guards, and disabled passengers. The little details really make a difference.

The one sprinter that was built but isn’t in service is actually serving the Stony Point line, the only suburban train line that is not electrified.
@xscorpiogamingx3166
@xscorpiogamingx3166 Ай бұрын
I used to live next door to the stony point line. I spent a lot of time watching those sprinters go past every day. There's 2 units on the line, usually running as a set, though occasionally, they separate them and run them as 2 individual services essentially halving the wait time when travelling in the same direction.

I know it's a year on Rory, but, unless it's staff member asking you not to film, don't be afraid to politely tell them to mind their own business. I also suggest making a complaint if he was a staff member. You have the audio as proof of his unprofessional behaviour.

When I was younger, my grandparents would always take me and my older brother on V/line trips, just because we both used to be obsessed with trains. It’s been years since I’ve been on one, and watching this video is bringing out the nostalgia. Makes me wish I could go back to the past and go on another trip with them

@@RoryDing I don't think that you should just rely on your KZbin ad income as they can easily decide to cut you off for all sorts of seemingly stupid reasons. There is nothing wrong with setting up a Patreon Account and/or Buy me a Coffee Accounts. The amount that you set for your Patreons can start at as little as a $1 or $2. Just call it your Gold Coin Patreons. Same goes for your Buy me a Coffee Friends. The only difference between the two is the amount that is deducted for service by the providers.

Also, dont listen to people like those girls, they don’t understand nothing, they are people who cause trouble. When I moved to a new school a few years ago, at the start of the year, my teacher handed out these cut out figures of a person made of paper, and we had two write on it our interests, what makes you happy. So, on the head, I drew “VR”. My class saw it and said “OMG you have a virtual reality headset??” Then I go “Uhh, you’d be surprised, it means Victorian Railways”. (I drew the old VR logo). My class seemed ok with it, in fact they thought it was different, but in a good way.

Nice one Rory, I live in Qld so its fun to see trains from other states. I had to laugh at that man trying to tell you what you can and can't do sounds like he is trying to intimate you by stating race and his "job". What a tool.

I tend to get that on the odd occasion with teens or sometimes adults saying something or giving me weird looks when I’m filming the A series or the B series depends on where abouts I am or who’s around. I guess some people don’t realise that some of us are passionate about trains it’s a little annoying but I just laugh it off and remind myself that some people don’t really realise that different people have different interests or hobbies like train spotting or riding trains in general. I haven’t filmed in a while because I’ve been busy working and haven’t had the time but hoping that I’ll get a day off soon so I can get back on the A series and film some trains if I feel like it, keep up the good work mate! I enjoy your videos a lot and I’m differently going to be trying out quite a few trains you’ve reviewed in the future, the Australind being one I’ll have to do soon before the old Railcars are withdrawn from service :)

Hi Rory, I just want to tell you some things about the H set. 1.As of November 2022,H sets operate select services to and from Bacchus Marsh and Geelong after VLocity trains replaced loco hauled services to Shepparton. V/line decided that once Vlocity’s start services on the Shepparton line it would be necessary to reinstate a morning up and evening down service operated by H set to Geelong and if you check V/line’s website you will see one service in each direction is rostered as Loco hauled service (H set) as otherwise people won’t have much chances of riding H set. 2. The H set you got were actually a refurbished H set because on the Vline website it shows that the seats on H set is the same colour as VLocity units 76-79. 3. The Shepparton line wasn’t the only long distance line operated by H set.In 2018 due to a lack of available N type carriages,H set was temporarily used on the Warrnambool line resulting cafe bars being unavailable which is far worse than VLocity units 76-79 operating long distance services. Finally.Four H type carriages ran the last train on the South Gippsland line behind an p class loco which are similar to the Y class shunter

You did really well! You should print out the VLine map and attempt to visit each station (at least stopover and do some sightseeing/visit a cafe) and that includes VLine coach stops too :) Why not, as there's now a daily cap of $9.40 I think!

Melbourne has two “central” stations. Flinders st is the main hub for Metro services and all metro trains go there, and Southern Cross is the main hub for V/line or Interstate trains and all start and terminate there :)

Just got sent home from a city, public-transport based scout camp. I come from Pakenham so we got to catch a v-line train to southern cross via Geelong first (???) anyway, the district leader got us first-class tickets which was amazing.

Awesome. I’m so familiar with all of that. We used to frequently travel to Melbourne using the Warrnambool train, and I have often booked for group trips. It is great fun. We always book a First Class reserved seat on the train. It is literally only a few dollars more and so comfortable. If we fly OS out of Melbourne it is easy to get to Southern Cross, catch the Airbus and continue travel. I’m not sure if you mentioned that with a VLine paper ticket you can get an endorsement to allow you to travel free of charge within the Metro zone
