Thanks for watching It was your kind comment that inspired us to try and make this - we had a great trip and "partly" filmed it - but not as well as we had hoped It was absolutely freezing - so we didn't video enough (or as much as we would have liked) Travelling with the Bromptons definitely adds an extra dimension - we have seen so much more of the places we have visited - Do it, you know you want to The easiest way would be to ask your local friendly Brompton dealer for a box (they have to dispose of them anyway) - use that for travelling but stay at an airport hotel (or one where they have a free bus transfer) Then there is no cost for the box Alternatively fly one way and then cycle / train home - we'd really like to fly to Zurich and cycle back to Rotterdam along the Rhine

Thank you for all your videos! Both informative and nicely presented. I also like your outtakes, they add a friendly air of familiarity after all the serious bits. I’ve ordered my first Brompton just two days before, immediately when I discovered the Electric was finally available for order here in Sweden. And now, trying to pass the waiting time until delivery with lots of Brompton videos, I see at least your luggage has already been here! Surely no coincidence...

I just use a 16" folding bike carry bag that I bought on eBay for $25. I cutted the Brompton box in half and put that in the bottom of the bag then add some bubble wrap for better protection. I have two B&W luggages but sometimes it is really inconvenient when I travel among different cities by using my Brompton as the main transportation.

BRILLIANT video on the ease and joys of travelling with a Brompton. Love Berlin, it’s years since I was last there but (nerd alert!) I have a feeling the tall building you mentioned was a victory monument commemorating the battle of Waterloo. Mystifying and slightly worrying to see the separately checked handle-with-care luggage pop out with the main hold luggage... airlines eh?! Great to know Kojaks held their own in the cold but German cycle paths were always a joy - it’s stimulated thoughts of a spring city break 🤔!

Excellent video - I have a Brompton hard case - and if you are bike packing will need to find a left luggage facility if starting from the airport. Not all airports offer left luggage...

Thanks so much for posting this video - I always enjoy seeing how people travel with their Bromptons. I recognize the hard case luggage option for the bikes, but I am unfamiliar with the larger luggage used at 4:15 in the video. What is it, and more importantly, is it sold by Brompton or is it a product of your own design? Keep up the grand work!

I have taken my Brompton to Dubai, Australia and New Zealand from the UK in the B&W hard case like you have, and every time it has been checked in as normal baggage, perhaps it’s a British Airways thing?

We've flown to Australia (via Dubai) - Brisbane and Melbourne, Sweden, Italy and Germany with the Brompton(s), using a mixture of the hard case and the foldable case BA will take them as normal luggage - but we were recommended by both a BA Bromptoneer and a BBC film crew to use oversize luggage for a more secure service They always (except Melbourne) come out with the standard luggage

I've never owned... or even handled.... a folding bike; but to the extent that it's easier (and more possible) to fit a Brompton into a hard shell suitcase than it is with less expensive folding bikes, that right there could potentially justify the higher price of the Brompton (relative to other folding bikes).

Hi. Enjoy your videos very much. 1.Can you speak to why two of the group’s Bromptons were sent with what looks like original corrugated boxes? Are they infrequent travelers? Frugal? 2. Also, obviously those boxes degrade over time. But if one is an infrequent air traveler, the boxes look like they can hold up for a long time, especially if one takes along packing tape to reinforce.) 3. Is there a way to travel by air with the new electric Bromptons? I assume the the batteries are not allowed to go on the plane unless it’s a specially approved marked commercial shipment.

Thanks for watching, and sorry for the delay in replying The video was made in those days when travel was easy - let's see if / when that returns We only had two proper travel boxes, so we made do with the boxes in which Bromptons arrive from the factory. They are designed for shipping them around the world - so pretty tough - we only used them for the journey there and back, then recycled them. They are also great if you want to do a one way journey (for example we would like to fly to Zurich, cycle along the Rhine to Rotterdam and catch the train home - this would be a perfect solution - a one way box) The new Electric Bromptons are not allowed to fly (we havent looked into it fully). If anyone wants to fly to UK near us with their Electric Brompton, we are happy to lend a battery

I do hope that You remembered to ride in the right side, as all those crazy foreigners ride the wrong way! My wife won't allow me to take my Brompton to Malta, as she consider it too dangerous for an old man to ride a bike on the island. But You may know that it was English, Norman Forster that made the new cupola from glass on top of the Reichtag building, as also the new Elephant House in Cph Zoo.

Probably just pay the baggage fee. Think it really depends on the airline. Might no even have to pay extra...
