Peter, the little box looks perfect, that is going to turn out great. As for the guitar, that is the one thing they don't tell you when you are young about getting older, someday everyone you love isn't going to be there anymore, been experiencing that a lot the last couple years. Glad you got the guitar back.

As a kid, I loved boats - especially old wooden boats. I told my dad I wanted a model of one. He took me to the local library and found a book of plans (free), then went to the craft store to buy a bag of scrap balsa ($1.). We made all the running gear from various bits of brass and took a motor from one of my toys to power it. 55 years later, I still have that dollar boat along with all the invaluable memories of building it with my dad.

Peter, we all need those memories to keep us focused and sane, remember in your case whenever your stop talking about your father after his passing then he is really dead , that's why those story`s are so important

Thanks for sharing that Peter. I hope you play it more often. Great that you have it back :) I started my Summer cruise yesterday, crossing Cook Strait in amazing conditions :) Will be spending 3 weeks exploring the Queen Charlotte Sound and catching up with friends. Had my first swim of the season today ! Was working on Tangaroa until 2 minutes before I cast off the lines !!! Great to see you back working on Geordie :) Kind regards, John. Thank you for sharing. I was just working with my Dad today feeling grateful that we could share the time together. One day he won't be there and I'll be helping my daughters on something else, passing the memories down. It's the circle of life. Thank you again for sharing. Happy New Year and may 2025 bless you with opportunities to help your family.

Thanks for sharing your dad guitar story. I have a picture of my dad and me playing guitars when I was about 11 years old in a ragtime band he had. Music along with boats make for a wonderful set of memories I will alway cherish. Your story brought all those back to my mind today. Thank you Peter.

Great tale about the guitar. Part of why I watch the channel is because of your deep respect for the really importan things in life and this came across to some small extent in the Beer of the Week. Sorry to see it go. Please keep up with little bits of stuf of this sort.

Thanks, Peter. Your story brought back a few memories of my Dad, though he's been gone more than 20 years. Like me with my father, you carry your Dad's legacy with you. I truly believe it's how they live on. Whether you play the guitar, or not, you honor him every day.

Peter, you need to play that guitar brother. That is an incredible story and it came back to you for a reason. My dad gave me several guitars over the years and they are priceless because they came from him. He loves music and even though he doesn't play himself, he knew I loved to play and he gifted me those guitars to continue with my music. Amazing that the picture you showed us was still in the case even after it had been stolen. I know you miss your dad Peter, however you playing that guitar will keep you close to him. Cheers🍻🎸

Nice story. I had a boat theft on Christmas Day 2019 from my boat moored in Coal Harbour. I didn’t discover the theft till mid January. The police latter told me that Mr and Mrs Drug Addict, the two that had broken into my boat, had also stolen my dingy off the back of my boat and had been found passed out in my dingy just past Lions Gate bridge. Several tools, liquor and other items had been stolen also.

Peter , i find you to be a brave man getting your fathers guitar back . Probably not the smartest way to do that , but brave nevertheless . Don't we all have something that holds the memory of a person close to you . I know i have . In my case it's an unfinished model sailboat that my father started building but never finished . I will never let that thing go . My father died almost 8 years ago .

Word of the week is "nostalgia," people... please use it in a sentence to win Peter treating us to whatever he wants to play on the guitar at the center of the story... GOD that was heart wrenching. I know you're like, an Englishman living in Canada, Peter... but can you please play for us a one-performer arrangement of "Horse With No Name," by America? That would be so beautiful, to play on your father's guitar so far removed in space and time and life from when the man in that photo played it for you. But if not that one, then any you like... I know that it can be played and sung by a single person because about 30 years ago, the first time that I know of that I heard that song, it was while cusping on adulthood and sipping an Italian soda at this place called the "Renaissance Cafe" in Irvine, CA. I asked the singer/guitar artist afterwards if he wrote that himself, saying it was so beautiful, and he laughed and said that no, it was by a band called, "America". Just adore that song. :) But play for us, would you? Take a break for an hour or three from all the sanding... I suppose it might not be your style but some Rob Scallon or Ryan Adams?

Wow, you were lucky to get your guitar back. If there had not been the big guy and the crowd, you may not have succeeded. I would up my security as much as you can and maybe even create a secret, locking storage place for the things that are not replaceable. A simple life is not so simple these days. There is a lack of morality due to circumstance, upbringing, social media, and/or general concern for others now that is hard to reconcile. Remember, this person, if he was the original thief, knows where he stole the guitar so beware. On a brighter note, the boat is coming along nicely. I wish you all Happy Holidays and New Year.

Beautiful work, Peter. The forecastle head is really taking shape. Also enjoyed the triumphal anecdote about the guitar! Question: the last couple winters, you've had to motor Geordie out when running shop tools to avoid noise disruptions - are you still having to do that or are you just working in your slip? Thanks for the top notch content and knowledge sharing!

Cat's in the Cradle Harry Chapin Lyrics My child arrived just the other day He came to the world in the usual way But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay He learned to walk while I was away And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew He'd say "I'm gonna be like you, dad" "You know I'm gonna be like you" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man in the moon "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when" But we'll get together then You know we'll have a good time then My son turned ten just the other day He said, thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play Can you teach me to throw, I said-a, not today I got a lot to do, he said, that's okay And he, he walked away, but his smile never dimmed It said, I'm gonna be like him, yeah You know I'm gonna be like him And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man in the moon "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when" But we'll get together then You know we'll have a good time then Well, he came from college just the other day So much like a man I just had to say Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while? He shook his head, and he said with a smile What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys See you later, can I have them please? And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man in the moon "When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when" But we'll get together then, dad You know we'll have a good time then I've long since retired, my son's moved away I called him up just the other day I said, I'd like to see you if you don't mind He said, I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kids have the flu But it's sure nice talking to you, dad It's been sure nice talking to you And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me He'd grown up just like me My boy was just like me And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man in the moon "When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when" But we'll get together then, dad We're gonna have a good time then
