Ex OTR driver here and my dispatcher at my last carrier was from Chicago. I would literally bring her 2 to 3 Italian beefs 5 Maxwell Streets and a few other goodies after getting unloaded at Jewel's DC in Melrose Park. To say she kept me rolling was an understatement. Now I am married to a Chicago girl and I can make most of these goodies myself. Even homemade gyros are not hard with the right seasonings. To say my wife is happy is an understatement.

Travel Thirsty -- gonna give y'all props. Roma's is a TRUE Chicago hole in the wall. Been going with my father for the last 20 or so years. The last owner was a bastard at times, but he made one of the best beefs & homemade giardiniera anywhere. Surprised they are getting the recognition they deserve from you guys. Definitely one of the best beef shops in Chicago, albeit nowhere near as known as Al's or Johnnie's. I appreciate you guys truly getting down with the Chicago dives & giving them more of a platform. Oh man. I’m from Montana, but I lived in Chicago a couple times during the 80’s & mid 90’s. In ‘95 I found a shop in Schaumburg in a Motel 6 parking lot that did Italian beef and Chi-dogs. The beef was outta this world! I got the bun loaded with provolone cheese, an Italian sausage, beef, and topped with hot giardiniera oh my God! I lived on those things for a year! I went to a lot of shops, but never had a beef like Schaumburg! This looks a lot like what I remember. I have GOT TO get back to Chicago - my mouth is watering uncontrollably! We do not get food like this in Montucky!

I don't think I ever been here but I do love Italian beefs and you can get them at many locations in Chicago, also I prefer the maxwell street hot dog to the Chicago one, it's mustard and tons of grilled onions. If you wanna try a good polish hotdogs try Jim's original by the highway and they have good fries too but this is just my opinion.

We don't have to wash the meat bc its pre washed. If it was in styrofoam maybe. But it is flash sealed for safety already. And the skin of the potatoes is the healthiest part and adds crispness

I fell in love with Italian beef when I was 7 years old. My cousins took me on a tour when I visited from TX. To this day, there isnt a better sandwich than Italian beef, though a flounder sub in NJ could make a case. Everytime I go to Chicago, I got to have me at least 2 🤤

3:00 I cannot watch those boiling roasts without thinking of Chef, from APOCALYPSE NOW, talking about Navy cooking and watching the Navy cooks taking "beautifully marbled beef, and throwing them into these cauldrons!
