I grew up in Dickens and have since moved away after high school in Spur. Me and my wife go back from time to time and see the family that still lives there. Stumbled on your videos and thank you very much for doing them with respect and information. I watch em and it takes me back.

Enjoyed your efforts very much, you were right in the Heart of Dickens. My grandfather owned several properties in the County. Bar-O Ranch out on CR 362, The Cafe on 82 and his home on Montgomery Street. I call Dickens Home. Planning a trip back soon, your video was like almost being there again. The Springs, Guy Thompson Grocery store, Shorty's Barber shop, Tips, Caprock Cafe', all wonderful memories. Thank you so much for doing this, the most current info I could find about the place I call home. - Ronnie Overstreet.

Wow John, well worth waiting for! What a fascinating little county, it's actually like the county that USA forgot. Plenty of roads but few are metalled, which is very very unusual for here in the UK, hence my interest. Lots to see but well worth researching before paying a visit which you obviously do. I really enjoyed that John, thank you very much indeed. Oh yes, compliments of the season from my wife Helen and me (Frank), have a good one won't you!

Such a great thing checking out out of the way and forgotten places, and there are many of them. When a town dies only the dead are left to tell the stories. At about 1:46-1:48 when you were walking down those steps, what was that noise? It sounded like a rattle- rattlesnake.. I know you know but be careful out there. I love seeing these wide open spaces, they're disappearing all too quickly. Enjoyed the journey dear. Stay safe and GOD bless
@TravelwithaWiseguy10 ай бұрын
I’m not sure what that noise was - definitely not a rattler but probably some insect of some kind. 😊 thanks! It was a fun trip!

It's always interesting when a town dies and the cemetery is all that is left. It turns into a random cemetery in the middle of nowhere. I just find that fascinating. Thank goodness the cemeteries are there though because it shows real people lived and died in what is now just a field. There was a community there. Kind of fitting, the town died and all that is left is the literal dead.

I enjoyed the videos of Dickens County. I’ve never been to Dickens or Spur, but my father and his family all came from that part of Texas. My grandmother was a Harkey, and the Harkey family settled in and around Dickens. My father was born there, and my uncle Rob R. Brown (Mutt), who was killed in WW II, is buried in Dickens. We are cleaning out my Grandmother’s house in El Paso, and we ran across old pictures of Mutt and his military papers. I wonder if there is a museum or veterans group that would like to have these items.
