If ever you go to visit and you have the time, you should also consider visiting Guangzhou. It has the oldest mosque in China and in all of East Asia build in 627 CE, called the Huaisheng Mosque. It's modest in size, but has a lot of history. The other mosque in Guangzhou, the Xianxian Mosque, was established only two years later, so it's also incredibly old.

Every religion (cult excluded) has extreme people who ruin the reputation of the religion, but China has the most ethnic groups and allow all kinds of peaceful and cultural religions. In my hometown where it is a very very small city, a mosque can sit very close to a Christian church and everyone just coexist very well,

Those people always have something to complain about. I last got a "news" video pushed into my feed about how China was "forcing" the Chinese Muslims to build their mosques in traditional Chinese-style architecture instead of Arab-style. The video almost made it sound like the only legitimate mosque is an Arab-looking mosque. 🙄

I visited this place in April 2023. Mashallah, the old mosque is excellent (Fortunate to pray magrib salah). Street halal food delicious. Full of Islamic tradition and crowdy. For Muslims, it's a place to visit.
