Yes cottages are far from the city. But if you want hippie vibes that is the only place. You can get homestays in the city. Check out thilak homestay in the city

Much appreciated - a few of recommendations please: 1) Where to get good authorized guide and contact? 2) How about Jan weather at night - too cold to stay in cottages with young children? 3) Will the ticket from Vijay Vittala temple taken on Day1 will allow entry to ASI the next day?

You can get an authorised guide outside of the places. They will be wearing a government id card. The weather in hampi is always cold at night and i will not recommend cottages for young children as walls are made of wooden mat. You can stay in a homestay in Hampi. And the vijaya vitthala ticket is only valid for one day.

You can grab a rickshaw to reach this cottage from hampi. Rented Bikes are not allowed in hampi where all monuments are there. You can ride a bike on the other side of hampi where the cottage is.

@@RajatSingh-yb3tq Hey buddy, my trip was as awesome as it could've been! I met many solo travelers, mostly foreigners but also some indians as well. If you're traveling solo, make sure you connect with a lot of people, that's what I did. I stayed at the Coconut tree resort in the North Hampi, those guys were really awesome. I booked a Honda Navi for 1 day to roam in North Hampi, and for South Hampi: you can opt for an auto which will take you through south hampi for a complete day. The key is to connect, communicate and travel with people, sharing saves money, gives a lot of experience. All the people I met on the journey, made my first solo trip very very special. Nothing specific about cautions etc. But make sure to research a bit about Hampi, cultural, historical things it has, cause it will give you a broader perspective of what you actually gonna visit.
