I absolutely hated how gatekeepers always said Travis is overrated, especially back in the day when Blink blew up and young elitist drummers started discovering other technical bands like Dream Theater or something. The slander was infuriating. This guy found his own identity on the kit, earned his money, and inspired a lot of kids to play the drums. He's a legend. I mean, he makes even practice pads sound cool and I won't be surprised he moves some of these units w/ quiet cymbals just from this video.

I met the Blink 182's attorney in San Diego once, around 2004. He said the band had an LLC that they did business through. Their company was named "poo poo butt, inc." I don't even want to play "drums" after watching Travis, I just want to pick up a pad and go back to basics, while focusing on the details. A lot of drummers don't enjoy playing on a pad, because it's "boring." But something about Travis just takes that all away. He always inspires me to almost "start over." Again, going back to the basics, and building from the ground up. He's a gigantic inspiration to myself, and so many other players. 🤘

When I was younger I was like that. Never wanted to do my rudiments. But yeah, it is what you make it. At some point, when I decided to take it more seriously, it felt really rewarding to see progress on the pad. Which in turn made me want to do pad work even more. Then the cycle of self reinforcement begins and it becomes as rewarding as playing on a kit.

Travis has a style that he completely owns, his individual fill style is always dynamic and musical. On the Willow song Grow Travis starts the song with a drum fill that no one else is able to play. He's a gifted drummer who keeps evolving. The essence of Blink-182 sound and a drummer who is able to connect with so many other artists with a positive outcome. Has to be up in the top 5 rock drummers who are currently playing. Definitely in a top 10 list of great rock drummers. If he's inspired by Animal well let's make hime No 1 drummer ever.

Mark is an amazing song writer and Tom has a really unique voice so they really bring their own strengths to it. The fact that the drumming is the most musically complex part really works because you can't really have overly complicated harmonies or melodies in punk rock. Adding a layer of depth to the drums elevates the songs without taking away their 'punk-ness'.

Travis is the first drummer I discovered who actually brought the fact that drummers could be musicians too... It wasn't just about being loud, fast, and keeping time. He truly plays the kit like an instrument, which is more than could be said of most drummers. I think a lot of drummers are too focused on rhythm, and tend to color in the lines musically. Unpacking his style opened my ears to an entire world of music there's no way I would have found otherwise.

I always loved his style of drumming. Always liked the 6 stroke roll on the build up of All Small things. It's just awesome. And the way he plays the fast songs like Pathetic or Josie.

Not sure if you meant to imply otherwise but those last two aren't his parts 😅 He can play the standard fast punk stuff fine, but they're nowhere near as creative as the stuff he's written.
@muccmaster
@muccmaster 11 ай бұрын
@@itmeurdad He didn't say he wrote them, how he plays them. Either way he puts his only flair on the songs and plays them much better than Scott did. Just like how he made Dammit his own.
@itmeurdad
@itmeurdad 11 ай бұрын
@@muccmaster I think that's my point. When it's a straight forward fast-as-you-can punk beat for 3 minutes there's not really that much he can do to "make it his own" Sure he can add a fill or two on those but it's pretty much indistinguishable from one drummer to another.

It took me listening to Neighborhoods and falling in love with a lot of those songs for me to get over myself and realize how great Travis is. Seems a remarkably humble dude, too.

Been Playing Drums for years. When I first started, Travis and the Drummer from Greenday always caught my interest. Travis is rock solid , with speed and power. He can groove funky as well and swing it , or Samaba it up when he needs. One of the Greatest well rounded drummers in Rock History in my opinion. Keep it Groovin Travis! 🤜

Started to listen to Travis and he was my drum role model. But then I listened to other bands and I was so dumb to say Travis was not a good drummer, however now again I see how good he is and all the musical background he has in every song.

Travis was always one of those guys that flew a little under the radar for me, I mean I liked blink-182 but I didn't really understand how much of a badass Travis is.... Now I know, the guy is an ABSOLUTE BEAST !!!!! And he seems like one hell of a nice guy, very humble and that's what makes him great, in my opinion. Thanks drumeo for spotlighting such a great artist. 🤘🥁🥁🤘

Awesome to see Travis on the channel, especially in a personal setting like this on practice pads. I saw blink on their self-titled album tour as a teenager - not only was it was my first concert experience, but Travis came out on a rotating drum pedestal in the crowd for an extended solo which absolutely killed. Will never forget it. Saw them earlier this year, and they sounded even better. He has so many creative drum parts in his catalogue and it’s exciting to see him active across different new artists’ projects in recent years.

I listen to anything like Blink, Metallica, Gojira, Dream Theater, Children of Bodom etc but Travis is my favourite drummer because he was one of my first main inspirations and his showmanship is something to be admired. I'm not saying he's the best, I don't think any drummer is, but he's fucking good.

Blink never really resonated with me growing up, but back then I didn't realize the chops Travis had. Seeing these interview/demos years later has opened my eyes. On recordings he seems to tastefully play to the song, but it would be interesting to see him do some egregious over-playing on something. Has Travis done any particular albums or projects like that? Based on this video I think the live show is where it's at.

Wow! Drumeo, huge appreciation for inviting Travis! I wish you've got more time for interview and could do more stuff. His rudimental routine, some breakdowns of complicated drum parts i.e. bridge part of "The end with you" by BCR or ending part of "Down" at Letterman in 2006 or 7
