Outstanding instruction of the picking changes that coordinate with chord changes, and the exemplary kicker is at 6:06, picking for the D chord; so clarifying of this key concept. Many thanks

Thanks So Much!!! I've been watching many travis picking videos & YOUR'S HELPED THE MOST! You are a GREAT TEACHER! Now I need to Muscle Memory this! Years ago, I learned a syncopated fingerpicking style from Laura Webber who had a Guitar Lesson Show on PBS in New Jersey. We are talking many years ago! Travis picking sounds so great with so many songs, so Thanks for helping me with this! Patricia

could you give a little more detail on doing the four string chords like D or F? It's kinda glossed over on the video. Is the thumb consistently going 4th string 3rd string and are the one and two fingers consistently going 2nd string 1st string? I'm a bit confused. Great lesson though besides that detail

I followed everything in lesson 1 and 2 up to the point of the tab when switching from C to G. I think I must be missing something. What do the O's mean on the tab? Are those strings played open? I must be dense. For us beginners, the previous tabs showed us which fingers to properly use on which strings. What don't I get? Thanks JohnW

can I use more fingers and use index on third base instead of plucking thumb upwards?
@cyberfret10 жыл бұрын
For Travis Picking bass notes are played with your thumb for a consistent sound. Often a thumb pick is used to give even more emphasis to the bass notes. So you could play the same set of notes with different fingers, it just will not give you the same sound and would not be considered Travis Picking.

cyberfret Thanks, I will keep working at it. That thumb upstroke is weird but I know I'll get used to it.
@cyberfret10 жыл бұрын
TheStankyGreen There is no time that your thumb doing an upstroke. It is always down...toward the floor. Your fingers are plucking toward the ceiling.

I’m sure this is a stupid question, if your using your thumb on the fifth string and on the fourth string what does the number 3 and 2 mean?
@cyberfret6 жыл бұрын
Those are the frets. So for a C chord you would have your 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the 5th string, and your 2nd finger on the 2nd fret of the 4th string. That part is using what is called "tablature" which you can do a search for and get a full explanation.
@jillburkett68766 жыл бұрын
Ok thank you for answering. I thought that was for the picking hand.
@cyberfret6 жыл бұрын
@@jillburkett6876 The first part of the lesson it is where you see the T 1 2, then the last part is tablature being the frets. Check out the link right under the video, and that will take you to a lesson that has some written explanation as well.

Ah, I just got it. How dumb can I get! Of course they are played open.
