Great live version of this. Every band back then did the lip sync thing for these shows with the exception of a few. Good to see they were one of the few. Love this song.

She’s singing live, but the band is miming though. Look at Paul’s hands at 1:17 and other parts while listening to the music. It likely wasn’t their choice, nor other bands. I don’t know any musician would rather mime thank play live. It’s just something shows forced bands to do back then. Often with unexpected results. See Nirvana on Top of the Pops or Muse on an Italian TV show.

Love this song and the group are ace too, still agree with the others of it not being completely live. This female fronted band who had a debut in 1988 as well, playing this same TV show. And are all clearly playing live. Even the brief piano parts in the song were likely played by their manager Dave Balfe behind the stage, because before he managed Strawberry Switchblade he played keyboards on A Tear Drop Explodes and Echo & The Bunnymen debuts kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2HUoXScjb6SaKM

Clearly they had the full unedited backing track to play along with. There are some subtle differences in the music - a little fuzz bass here and there. Classic song.

I remember seeing this live in 1988, & how stroppily miserable Cattell looked the second the performance was over & she thought the cameras were gone. It created a bad impression about the act which adversely affected my view of them at the time as a teenager, & I preferred the Darling Buds - whose singer Andrea Lewis seemed a happier girl. However with Cattell I realise now it can't have been much fun for a young woman singing the same songs in repetition for months thru lots of rough small club venues. Funny how these small inconsequential things stay with you all these years. It was a shame that both the Prims & DB's, which seemed to have such good prospects at this time, were gone only a couple of years after this.

She seems bored...as if she would rather be anywhere else than singing a one-hit wonder of a song that was at the Top of the Charts. I'm pretty sure that this performance just might clear up any confusion as to why the Primitives had disappeared from the Pop radar by the end of the early 1990s. "Crash"-how fitting a title!
