Stepping on an opponents foot is highly underrated. It’s the first dirty tactic you’ll learn in boxing usually by accident. Either you’re going to have your foot stepped on in an exchange possibly with you getting knocked down because as you tried to get out of range you couldn’t Or you’re going to score a knockdown because you accidentally stepped on the other guys foot as you threw your combo. After that it’s not always an accident. Most yokels have no idea and the first reaction if you’re not used to it is for them to fall to the ground. Super easy tactic. I like this. This on the other hand is a very nasty sweep. I’ve always liked sweeps that sweep both feet our from under. A much harder fall. They won’t spring back up.

Yeah I actually remember learning the whole step on somebody's foot and push them to make them lose their balance back in elementary. Of course, it was nowhere near as technical as you or the video describes. Frankly, it wasn't even with the intention to apply it for any fights but just me and my friends being jerks to each other, lol.

Haven't looked through the comments yet, but it might interest someone: In chinese Shuai Jiao there is a move called Ji Zhuang, which looks very similiar but uses slightly different footwork. It's final execution is not so much a powerful sweep as seen here, but more to break balance and to bring the uke to the ground. I'm sure these two can be exchanged to some degree, very nice to see the similiarities. We always say: Same concept, different tradition. Cheers

@yourjeepguy95144 жыл бұрын
I’m a lefty judoka. The principle is the same. When they put their right foot forward, just step forward with left toe where Sensei Stevens showed in the video. Your left hand can be on their lapel on their sleeve. you are forcing them to bear your weight on that side. You step your right foot “courtsey “ step behind your left foot. Extend leg dead straight and use your foot like a hockey stick to lift the back of their Achilles’ tendon of the ground as you pull their sleeve or collar down to the ground. They trip over your extended leg and fall to ground. We call it the “sticker”.

intentionally injuring an opponent is not permitted. Punching, kicking, and other strikes are not allowed. Touching the opponent's face is not allowed. Attacking joints other than the elbow is not allowed. Head dives are not permitted. There is a high risk of injury to your opponent...doing this in my view means you don't care and it's intentional. Also, the ankle is a joint.

You can actually step on a person’s foot and just push them over backwards with the greatest of ease, but if you do not release the pressure on their foot they will break their foot when they fall backwards onto the ground onto their back. This is Ninja stuff, not judo technique.

@@ronin2167 Of course you cannot do this in a judo tournament or even in sparring. It is a self defense tactic I learned when I was practicing Krav Maga, which is a special self defense system created by the Israeli military. There is no ippon in Krav Maga. There is only life or death.

Depends on how the foot is drawn. If foot is drawn in front of uke: De ashi. If foot is drawn into ukes other foot: okuri. Old school jujitsu techniques have a great deal of stepping on people's feet and then twisting their heads or the rest of their bodies... very easy to seriously injure the joints of the legs doing that!
