Thanks for all the content Travis! I really love your attention to the small details especially the points you made about movement in an ai-yotsu position. I would love to see a similar video covering details such as movement for kenka-yotsu!

Tremendous video. So many coaches out there say to "get a grip" but it's very difficult to throw someone with a lapel only grip. Not so much with a sleeve only grip.
@TravisStevensgrappling4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it can be hard coaches only have so much time. It’s important to make sure athlete and coach speak the same judo language?

Weirdly enough my intuition already told me to go for the sleeve first and exercise control through that. But then again I am a huge fan of O-soto-gari and for that the collar grip isn't all that necessary. I'm going to experiment with the conclusions of this video in my next randori.

Hey thanks for the left sleeve suggestion. I had my first legit throw ever today in randori. I'm a white belt. I grabbed the left sleeve, pinned it to the guy's side and shuffled left. I fought for the lapel and got a hold near the neck. I waited for him to break my grip. Once he started I slid my hand behind the neck and went for ogoshi. He was surprised but he smiled at me.

Thank you for the great insight and tips Travis. It really stinks in easily the way you teach. I hope you don't mind me pimpin' Jimmy's gripping DVD 2.0 but it's the bible on the subject as far as I'm concerned. My wife bought it for me. I had his old one but because of the rule changes I guess he revised it. Appreciate the continuous content!!

Hey Travis, I just started Judo ( late in life at my current age of 47 ) here in Dallas Tx. a month ago. My question is this..what do you recommend for knee, hip and low back strengthening exercises to do at home. We don't have classes right now because of Covid-19, so anything to keep mobile is helpful. Thanks
