TRAWLER LIFE! Plane wreck and cruising UNDERWAY in The Bahamas!

Join us this week on Aboard Mermaid Monster as we cruise a little bit north in the Exuma islands and explore all that these islands have to offer. If you missed last week, we spent our time exploring Shroud cay and the lazy river that runs between the island. This week we take our tender down to Norman cay and snorkel and dive around the sunken Pablo Escobar airplane. It is a must see, especially if you own a drone! Just be aware of the strong current that can rip through the area. We also spend our time cruising back to Chub cay where we will stage to exit The Bahamas. If you are new here, then welcome. We are a full-time cruising boat family. We have lived aboard our Nordhavn 55 trawler for about 3 years now. We have cruised over 10k miles and have experienced some pretty incredible moments. FYI . A while ago ( i can't remember where to find it , sorry ) i saw a youtube video of a high field with a boarding ladder that folded very neatly up the side of the arch. The kids are only going to get bigger ! just a thought . Nice video as always.

The plane was a DC-3. It went down, as ‘I recall, and I’m 71 and a former pilot who flew in the Caribbean, in the 70’s. At that time, the preferred route to the USA was through the Caribbean.

Rooney looks old enough to stand a watch for an hour sitting in the pilot chair. Get her invested in the responsibility of keeping the family safe underway. You can “get some rest” for an hour while she keeps a lookout. You can rest somewhere you can keep an eye on things. Sea sickness might become less of an issue.

I have one question... Why you relying on fuel all the time if you can have a nice performance catamaran or trimaran for less money over all? Just thinking of some alternatives. More speed, less money for fuel and more ecological, just my 2 cents guys. The videos are still cool over all.

We fill up two times a year. At 2350 gallons and 5 gallons an hr burn, we hardly worry about fuel but I do see your point. Our boat has a much comfortable livability factor for our family! But cats and tris are cool in their own way!

@@joentexas i am not sure honestly. First a sailboat is behaving much different in Bad Weather than a Motorboat. 2nd it is a Personal preference though. I agree to the answer of my question, but I would Always prefer a sailboat Generally.

I grew up sailing. Now I prefer power. Interestingly ... cruising sailers spend approximately 50% of moving under power due to no wind, or wind too strong, or wind coming from where we want to go (and endless tacking is not an option). Oh, and maintaining sails and rigging approximates the cost of fuel. To each each their own.... Motor on Mermaid Monster! :-)
