I come from,on my fathers side,a Hull family.My first home was in Chomley Street then Pearson Park,my nan lived in Bean Street then Norway Terrace.Uncles were at sea as was my father and later one so was I.So the brightly,well dressed,trawlerman have always been around to me.I`d been at sea for about three years when I took my nan to the Gainsborough for a meal.Now I lived in Liverpool and the seafarers there were influenced by America so we were in tailored mohair quite formal suits,button shirts and silk ties.As I walked back to our table,I saw my nan surrounded by three trawlermen dresssed in the full gear,hair slicked back and crepe soled shoes on.My initial worries were allayed when I heard my nan say`So you must be Tommy`s lad,how is he?` she knew them all from her Hessle Road days.`This is my grandson,he`s deep sea` phew deep sigh of relief.If they`d been from Wigan Widnes or Warrington we`d have been fighting.

Guys who did this were legends in there own right. Hull was built on these legends. Never will we forget

Fascinating, thanks for making this film and to the people who participated. The Johnny Cash song 'Hurt' lays well with the sad loss of so many jobs and the proud industry.

The Corsair was the last sidewinder that I sailed in before it became Hull`s Trawling museum for the public to admire before sailing in the Freebooter.

Was that skippered by Bill Wharam? I am Chris Wharam perhaps related but not sure. I trained in Hull as a Radio Officer for the Merchant Navy in the 1970s.

The Arctic Freebooter was that the sistership og the Arctic Galliard ? Or was that the Arctic Buccaneer? Remember all the names from my time with the Norwegian Coast Guard up north.

No snobbery, you were slaves to Companies. Hard working men. When the end came none of you owned a boat. Don't glamorise a catastrophe. Fella, some of us are still hunting never mind fairy stories. Last of the hunters for you? When the bosses pulled the plug. Deeply disappointing, to listen like you quit because you were redundant. Scots still fishing. Why didn't you become a Skipper?
