The first thing I thought about the drink bottles and fuel bottle is they won't last 5 minutes before someone steals them (especially where I am from) .., that whole accessory setup should be able to simply be removed when not in use (like the touratech's do) .., and also without the bottles in place they look god damned ugly.
@thelikeablerider88007 жыл бұрын
Island Dreaming all the bottles and their mounts can be quickly and easily removed
@islanddreaming85917 жыл бұрын
Thanks L-B for the reply :) .., thats cool then , how are the mounts actually quickly removed from the panniers though, whats the procedure ? They are a great addition , and I'd love to carry extra fuel and water + fill the other flask with coffee at a roadside stall then be merrily on my way . .., But If I pulled up anywhere and left the bike alone even for 5 minutes I'd have to stow those carriers inside the panniers temporarily to avoid theft (sorry I have no access to see these in real life as I'd have to buy them and get them shipped to Indonesia)
@thelikeablerider88007 жыл бұрын
Island Dreaming if you where just after taking them off while stopping, then you could just remove the bottles. The mounting plate would be difficult to steal if you don't know how to remove it. slides into position and clicks in place, to remove them you have to use a small adaptor that you put on your keys, which obviously comes with them. If a thief had time, then they'd figure out how to remove them, but they can't be removed just buy pulling on them.

Thanks for the video. I'd like to know if you can store a standard helmet in the 45L sidecase. Maybe you can take a picture of yours please? I'm very interested by thoses panniers. V bye.

Unfortunately a helmet won't fit in the 45L pannier, but will fit in the 48L top box.

This is a fantastic video thank you very much. @thelikeablerider: do you need to drill to install the top box or side case nets? Or is that a straight fix please? Thank you.
@thelikeablerider88003 жыл бұрын
Hi glad it was useful! No the nets just clip in, you only need to drill the panniers to attach the fuel/water canister brackets.

Nice setup. The panniers seem great for adventure trips, I just find that they "break" the nice smooth lines of the XR. Call me picky. Great system though.

Extensively covered video bro. Planning one for my Gs for an-upcoming ride into the Himalayas. Are these water proof?i would wanna add a seat bag..what size bag would you recommend with your current set up
@thelikeablerider88005 жыл бұрын
Yes they are waterproof, just bare in mind that the outside water and fuel bottle attachments have to be drilled, so may compromise the water tight effectiveness. The Rearbag, and Cargo bags are my two favourite seat bags, also from SWMOTECH. Happy shopping👍🤪

Nice video. May I ask if you can easily fit a full helmet in the top box? Also, is there any speed constraint using the top case?
@spencerh263 жыл бұрын
I just got these for my bike. I was able to put a full sized helmet in the top box very easily. SW Motech states that the max speed with the boxes on is 80mph but is guess that’s a CYA policy.

Not so sure about all the luggage on such a sporty high revving BMW would be more appropriate on a GS. Are you going to install the crash bars now?
@thelikeablerider88006 жыл бұрын
That bike has now gone and I'm on the Super Duke, but yes I agree it's a bit too adventure bike for the s1000xr, but this was just to show what is possible if you're into that kind of luggage. To be honest if I want to tour comfortably, then looks become slightly less of a worry. Definitely wouldn't knock around day to day with this gear on, but if you wanted to tour on this bike then this system is great.

Excellent review. I understand these panniers are aluminium, however, do you recommend mounting the fuel canister onto fiber panniers? Like the one which comes standard with the Triumph Tiger?
@thelikeablerider88006 жыл бұрын
Suppose that depends on what sort of ridding you do. For me I wouldn't really need the canister, but if you doing a lot of enduro ridding, or long touring where fuel isnt always available, then it's a must have.

They're a really nice pannier- good looking, functional, well made, and with the best mounting system on the market in my opinion. I really like mine. But you've got to laugh at the recommended 10kg load when SW-Motech sell a 45 litre size and then also sell 15L dry bags to tie down on the top. There's no way riders (myself included) would load anywhere near as little as 10kg each side, so it's an absolute joke that they persist with a 10kg load recommendation. I'd like a guideline based on engineering calculations, or real world performance. I can understand the logic of the 130 km/h recommended speed limit, which everyone also ignores. I'm certainly happy to ignore it because it's not engineering-based, it's based on the fact that at a speed of 130 km/h or more, German law attributes at least some liability to both parties in an accident, whereas at a speed of less than 130 km/h you've got the possibility of being given zero liability depending on the circumstances of the collision. On that basis I'm happy to exceed the pannier speed limit because it's not based on engineering limits, but legal ramifications (as I'm in Deutschland I don't have to worry about the actual road speed limit too often). I went for the silver. I was interested in the black, but would have preferred anodised. How's the black powder coating holding up?
@thelikeablerider88007 жыл бұрын
Ronan Rogers yeah holding up well! got another set of Aero panniers to test next week, so keep an eye out

I was interested in which Rukka Jacket and Pants that you wear when touring. Have you done a review on them? Would love to see one. I have the Rukka summer air jacket but am looking for a Gortex jacket and pants for a trip I am planning this next spring on my S1000XR that I just purchased. Thanks!
@thelikeablerider88007 жыл бұрын
Jim Tucker The Jacket is the Rukka Cosmic, and the trousers are the Rukka Basti Gortex. It's really great gear, but although Gortex I still put my water proof over the top. You obviously don't get wet, but you'll get cold. The Gortex parts of the gear is the inner liner, so the outer shell gets wet like anything else, hence why I get cold. You can spend even more, so that the outer shell is water proof. I just find it easier just to throw on the water proof in heavy down poors. It's fine for showers, but I my opinion you can't ride in heavy rain just with the Rukka alone.
