This is just flat out awesome. This is what the hobby should be like. It's like going back to the days when you had to hand make parts and do custom modifications to gain every little bit of performance you can get to shave lap times. Now days, it's all about who has the most cash to drop into a high end kit and just order different parts to bolt on, no skill required. Please keep these custom modded builds going man.

For reversing the motor, you can just go in your HW esc and switch the motor rotation to clockwise and you don’t need to mess with the sensor wire

Not available on this esc. I tried.

I run a mid motor Bandit myself. I think the G3 HW Justock esc has the programming option. The SkyRC Toro TS120 has the option to program motor direction too.

You need a 3d printer, I'm going to get around to printing the stuff that I designed to make a TRX-3/Rustler/Bandit combo that I remixed/designed with some parts downloaded off Thingiverse. It's a rear motor currently, but I plan on making a mid at some point too. I just don't know if my current design will fall under ROAR width rules because it uses Rustler Arms with a thinner mount point, with original back in the day Bandit wheels it should be close. Like I said, one of these days I'll get around to printing it

Awesome work mate, thanks for taking us on the journey, setbacks are part of the custom buggy adventure. I like some of the "agricultural" solutions like rear shocks at the top just being bolted straight into the top of the shock tower just to make it work. I'm looking forward to seeing the next instalment!

I can't not click (I tried) on the vids regarding bandits...I have a problem. I too have delved deep into Bandit modification. Thanks for the fun entertainment!! Just an FYI because you don't seem to have a problem spending money on RC (LOLOLOLOLOLOL) contact Jeff at Factory Works RC. He makes carbon and g-10 chassis, he did a 1-off mid motor bandit for me a few years ago and should still have the file....it's not that I don't want to see you fab something out of WOOD tho! LOL :) Thanks again for the content.

I'm thinking that you could have (if you have access to a metal workshop) made a couple of small posts out of aluminium (on a lathe) and drilled and tapped both ends. Then cut of the remaining plastic steering post of the chassis and bolt the ally ones to it. I don't think I explained that very well. I am going to adopt the word fiddledicking btw. The project is going well.
@Streisnd945 ай бұрын
Nice to see that you finally did the conversion. When I see what parts you made uniquely for the Buggy, I get a little headache if I should do it to my Bandito 😀 Doesn't normally the ESC have a setting if that the motor should rotate clockwise (CW) or counter clockwise (CCW)? That solution should be easier then reworking the sensor wire and adjusting the timing again. Keep the work going, it's super entertaining watching your progress with the buggy and even motivated me doing my own Bandito project here on YT. Cheers

You should set it on 4 digital scales to see where the weight bias is compared to the rear motor.

Integy makes a triangle shaped upper brace for the LCG Bandit. It's metal but if it works with your custom parts you could always trace it and make it out of poly/nylon or whatever plastic you use.

Did this using the rpm gear box a while back, definitely improves the driving characteristics. I never liked the way these traxxas 2wd cars drove, but mid motor fixes it a LOT!

The best time to find weak points is in controlled testing. Sick work, and glad to hear that you can already feel the increased potential. Also, this little maneuver at 7:43 is pure gold. I still wonder how the mid-motor might compare to a transverse battery mounted right behind the servo on a rear motor car. Particularly one with a tucked/transverse servo like the Associated/Losi buggies run. Actually, are those configurations of the steering system even lower profile/more forward like I think they are, or is that an optical illusion on my end?

You need a short upper deck, something like the Kyosho Ultima Pro XL. A smallish plate that locks the steering posts down and hooks up to the front bulkhead. Traxxas needs to get off its ass and give the Bandit a second look, and give it some love. Instead of its tunnel vision on the X-Maxx and over abundance of monster truck platforms.
@VestedUTuber5 ай бұрын
Traxxas doesn't care about the racing scene, they're not going to revamp the Bandit because that's not what sells to their primary market of bashers and brand loyalists. Honestly I'm kinda surprised that they even still make the Bandit when the Rustler exists and is better suited to their primary market's interests.

Has there been any real down side to the stock bandit chassis layout for entry racing? Of course tires and shocks seem to be huge factors. But I would like an easy way to race and get into the hobby more. Otherwise I was looking at the rb10 as a start. Any insight would be great.

Stock bandit with proper tires and shock oil is fine to get going. Rb10 will need the same.
