You are 100% correct about overpowering a MT. In my Savage, I was able tomdesign a way where I can run virtually any engine (meaning not limitied to just rotostart styles) and thus started incorporating more and more power, until eventually it was undriveable. I have some modded Novarossis that when I squeeze the throttle, the Savage will come close to a standing backflip. It's a fun lttle party trick, but being 47 years in this suface RC hobby, my intent is still to simply get from point A to point B. I don't really know much about Traxxas, other than most folks I know tell me its just s step above HSP, but if you like them and are happy that is all that matters.

As for protecting the cooling head, I'm pretty sure it was fuel tubing that people used--I would not think zip ties would be that effective). I've never bothered with it much...it's only for cosmetics. The fins can still be bent with the protector, and the cooling head is asy to recondition. MTs are swesome though.

The splined design interlocks with the Geode wheels for a solid fit that holds tight. Im almost certain thats why people were blowing servos because the servos were fighting each other. Or could of been a bad run if them too. Either way I’m sure them servos were not hooked up to power and centered when the installation of the horn set up was completed. I cannot stress enough for people to go over everything with an RTR!! It still will lock up the wheels. Did you see in the PRIMAL MT group on FB a dude converted the brake and throttle servo into one, that sounds like a great idea.

But with all that being said, the savage 5.9 is easier to start and is faster on the top end then the Mgt and lighter also and its not as expensive as the mgt. All in all both trucks are beasts and i love them both, only bad part is team assoc. Stopped making parts for the mgt 8.0. lol, I knew somebody would call me out on the gas guzzler statement, ahhaha. You're right, IDGAF either when it comes to nitro anymore, only care about fuel economy of my prius, ahaha. But I rem a while ago nitro fuel was almost 50% pricey than it is now, back then I cared. NITRO GANG!!!

Traxxas Nitro's are a joke! They like to burn up glow plugs! I would take a old school HPI Savage any day of the week! I would say the only problem that you might run into with a Savage is getting parts!
