Traxxas TRX4 - Austar Hobby Clone - DJI Mini 3 Pro - Experiment - Multitasking - 06-14-2023

Time to test the "Active Track" on the DJI Mini once again but this time with much slower targets to follow. I am finishing up the Austar Hobby TRX4 clone and wanted to see how well it performs next to the TRX4, also a comparison between the Firma Spektrum 2n1 Combo and the Hobbywing Fusion Pro. Very impressed with both combos but the Fusion Pro is definitely a step above and I still need to fine tune the settings on each. So I figured this is the perfect time to try the DJI Mini Pro 3 once again. I originally got the Mini because I cannot get close to my trucks from the wheelchair and I was hoping the Mini would do the job especially with the Active Track but I soon learned that was much more of a challenge than I thought it would be. I am severely hard headed and I rarely give up so I will continue to try getting all of this to work. I must say that I did make much more progress this time than I did the first time tracking the XRT although it did crash one time but that was due to overheating. I also added some music to the drone footage being as it doesn't record audio, maybe I will get the mic for the controller one day and see how that goes. I think most of the drone footage turned out well but the music ended sooner than I thought it would. I know I need to do better and I will do better each time around. Seems to track the trucks pretty good. Those colors, the speed, and never actually leaving frame, seems to track really good!.

The drone is doing a great job following the trucks! This is so cool! Also that clone is really cool. I want to get one! Just build the TRX4 kit, video will be out as soon as I can get it edited.

@@BeautyBeastRC Man it's raining again right now, sucks! I got lucky this time with the active track, but you notice that it mostly panned and tilted but it didn't follow like it supposed to. I got much closer to the trucks, maybe that helped...

I never thought it would be this hard for the drone but it did much better this time than the first time a while back with the XRT. Just gonna have to get closer next time.

Being that it looks like you have plenty experience. I'm stuck between the xrt and Xmas I hear so much problems about the bell crank and gear problems. I just got back into RC with a typhon 6s. I know i'm asking a lot of questions, but one more what batteries do you go with

Hi Scott, Ask as many questions as you like. One of the best things about the rc community is that we all help each other. It's hard to chose a favorite with the XMaxx and the XRT, they both are incredibly tough. The XMaxx is the most versatile and the XRT out handles everything. You will have gear problems when landing under throttle with both of them. I have had more gear issues with the XRT though. As for batteries I like the Traxxas batteries and the HRB 9500mah batteries. Always strong and reliable. I hope that helps. Good luck to you!

I have a questions do you think the 6s system out of my typhon would work in the traxxas Maxx 4s

Oh yeah, that should be awesome! I have seen a few 6s systems in a Maxx 4s and it was incredible. As long as you're taking the esc as well it will be really nice. Would love to see the video of it running.

What is it you use to coat the inside of your bodies?

I like to use Gorilla tape or the Flex Seal paint for the bodies. I used the Gorilla tape with the crawlers this time out of convenience or laziness, lol. I also took the body clips off the TRX4 and used neodymium magnets because those clips really get on my nerves... ;-)
