I sold my UDR during the whole "p-de-mic" closeout where you couldn't find one and the offered price was more than I could say no to. I missed it ever since. The scale realism of the chassis cannot be overstated, and the way it handles is incredibly realistic. It's your own personal Prerunner for 1:1,000 the cost! :) Time to put in another order I think.

Matt, the one issue you should address before running is pack the rear axle housing with water proof grease. Reason being, the wheel hubs allow dust to enter behind the brake rotors and will make it to your rear diff.

You know, it's funny how much guys are complaining about how "terrible" the traxxas ID plugs are when they were designed for ease of use to help those who were insecure about lipo batteries to make them fool proof. I understand it's annoying when you use other plugs, but deans which have long been the main go to can't really handle the higher power...great video of a great truck! Can't wait to see it running!

I believe the true scale trademark refers to the over all length of the truck. I think if you took a 1:1 TT and used your calculators to scale stuff down you'd find the UDR is the closest to the real thing.
@scalebuildersguild

Definitely true, but it's "Pro-Scale" not "True-Scale".

Scale Builder's Guild - I watched another comparison video. Showing the Rigid 1:1 To the UDR. I think there is more to the Pro-Scale. I think it is size yes. But the way the suspension works & even looks is scaled out too.. Visual & physical & how it all works together I think is the Pro -scale trademark.

I’m sure on a business standpoint, I see why they do this with there electronics. As far as the scale I bought the trx4 fist couple weeks. As nice as it is it’s doofy looking for the rover. Now I bought the bronco to me the sizing is real nice. Your videos are great and it’s nice to see traxxas listening to us consumers!

I remember mine used to look like that, for about 2 hours (maybe 3) till the batteries charged, installed aftermarket parts, and preventative maintenance was done Hasn't looked that nice since. What sold me on the desire to purchase this truck was definitely the scale details. Moreso than the size or the speed of it. At least until my first run on 6s. Then I was like "this thing is way too fast". Lol. I run it on 50% power most often, but do jump it to 100% at points. Is a lot of fun. Most of the suspension components I changed the day I got it to aluminum and haven't had any of the typical UDR breakage. It is a lot heavier now tho. Probably 3 pounds more.

@scalebuildersguild 5 жыл бұрын
That's great, thanks for the feedback. Mine's still stock, I'm pretty gentle on my stuff.
@SebastianLong
@SebastianLong 5 жыл бұрын
@@scalebuildersguild Well. Even gentle I've seen trailing arms break and the steering servos go out. Other than those two issues, I don't think you'll have any other issues. A pretty big wreck might also bend the upper rear links but can be easily straightened. Ohh. I also forgot to mention. After about 20 runs or so, pull the hexs off the hubs and make sure the axle pin isn't working it's way to spinning inside. Not sure why they used plastic there but when they strip, they often tear up the wheel as well. Replace then with the 12$ steel ones at the very least. Will save you $62 for a set of tire/wheel combo and or whatever the wheels by themselves cost.

Yes the trailing arms are a weak point in the truck but changing them 2 aluminum will spread that weak point to either the chassis or the axle housing which are very expensive to replace. I found a set of trailing arms from RPM and they also have skid plates for their trailing arms. 40% thicker then stock.

No other equipment required for TSM. Shock caps must be replaced with aluminum or they will leak. I just picked my UDR up on the 18th and I have not run it yet I am in the process of putting in a steel front drive shaft a rear end mod and the trailing arms. Also doing some detail work on the rear end batteries, tanks Etc. Be sure to drill holes in your tires and fill up your breather holes on the inside of the rims to allow the dirt sand and water to escape the tires or you will end up in tears LOL

Yeah, their ID plug fiasco has killed their battery sales, charger sales, and I've had several customers leave the UDR on the shelf because the TRX ID plug is molded into it and it's a hassle to change the plug. :/ It is a sweet looking truck, though, and it drives awesome! I was lucky enough to drive a pre-production model, and the couple of issues it had were fixed by the time it hit production. Careful on the asphalt, she'll traction roll really easily. :D It's amazing on dirt and grass!

All my batteries are traxxas so that doesn't matter to me. There's an adapter to hook those batteries into any charger, it's like $8. Scale looking RC’s are becoming popular again and it’s obvious that Traxxas has taken notice and even started to produce some of their own. They started with the TRX4 and now this vehicle looks more realistic than their previous models (it actually has driver figures and accessories). It’s a nice attempt but it’s got a glaring flaw. What scale is it actually? The problem with Traxxas is that they always make things bigger than they need to be. That’s fine for bashing around at 50mph but when you’re looking for option parts, you’ll be limited to items made specifically for Traxxas since their idea of scale is not on par with the rest of the world. I really want to get a TRX4 but it’s nearly impossible to find custom scale bodies that fit correctly. Contrast that with something like the SCX10 which will fit just about any 1/10 scale body and you’ll see that buying Traxxas means that you’ll have severally limited choices. You can’t just get your favorite body and put it on this vehicle. It won’t fit, it’s not a standard scale.
@scalebuildersguild
@scalebuildersguild 6 жыл бұрын
You'll always be at the mercy of the aftermarket and manufacturers for option parts. How is this different because it's bigger? If it was the same size as a Yeti, it's not like you could interchange parts anyway. You're looking at scale the wrong way. Everything is scale, just not necessarily at the same scale. This truck is 1/6th others are 1/9th, and so on. As for bodies, they already offer a clear one, and I guarantee we'll see new options down the road, not just from Traxxas, but likely also from Pro-Line.
@acereport8939
@acereport8939 6 жыл бұрын
Scale Builder's Guild I’m talking about scale as in size and overall look. For example; When it comes to model trains, there’s a few standard scale sizes which will insure that your display looks realistic. All “N” scale trains (no matter the manufacturer) will look pretty much the same size. Sometimes I watch RC crawler competitions. Most of the 1/10 trucks look roughly the same size and scale until someone comes by with their Traxxas Summit and ruins the look of the entire event. It’s not like the Summit is a bad vehicle. It just looks out of place compared to everything else. I recently built a MST CFX crawler using a Tamiya Jeep YJ hard shell body and it looks amazing because it fits perfectly! There’s a plenty of cool bodies available on the market. I would love to build something on the TRX4 chassis but it’s not a standard size. Traxxas is like the Apple of RC. They don’t play nice with anyone else. With regards to interchangeable parts. I’m using their waterproof receiver boxes a lot in my builds, their wheel nuts are better than most, their servos are rebuildable. Lots to appreciate already.

It's funny.. I used to use Traxxas plugs exclusively in all my rigs. Scale builds and otherwise. For longer than I should have. I got a lot of crap for it.. Had I continued that habit, I would have had one "I told you so" moment. Luckily I have switched to EC3s.... And still get crap for it.

What makes you think that? Because I didn't love all the add-ons of the TRX4? I'm no basher, but I definitely see this truck as a combination of the two, and I can get behind that!

Great video. But personally, I'm sick of Traxxas being a money hungry company. 😠 lawsuits, batteries and chargers, their power up program. Everything to make us spend MORE money on a hobby that is already kind of expensive. Their trucks/cars are great and hold up well, but not for the money they're asking, and not for the amount of money you need to sink in to them.

mike s with all the money they get from us, they better be putting out the best of the best. Didn't say their products sucks, just sick of them be so money hungry and trying to come up with different ways to take more and more of our money.

That's how all corporations are, they all want your money and will do whatever they can to get it. Look at all the new vehicles traxxas has released in the last few years; m41 boat, xmaxx, trx-4, erevo 2.0, 4tec 2.0, the udr, and the Aton. What other company has released that many vehicles that are so different? On top of that they've also released a bunch of bodies for many of those and other vehicles they already make, especially since many are Ford bodies and there are lots of different brands of sponsors on them, that kind of branding is expensive. I think it's great, yea sometimes stuff costs a lot, but I'd rather spend more on a quality product. If you want something cheap go grab a redcat and let me know how that works out! 😉 lol

It really helps the hobbies to have the big company's put in the R&D it takes for a truck like this. I hope in the next few years we see a club level class with 1/10 scale solid axle trucks. Something about the realism is just more fun. It has to start someplace and the Losi baja rey was a great start, sorry axial but the yeti just wasn't meant to go fast. I am just happy traxxas is in the game. Now for a more affordable 1/10 scale.
