Interesting. I use the pins, but just ignore the labeling and use whatever position gets the mesh right.

Cool, I think I may just try that if its too tight, do some testing... my first x maxx the motor got too hot so I put the arrma 5th scale system in it with new mount and esc plate it's great now waiting for my second x maxx now...

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!!! For anyone having issues with burning up their pinion and spur gear and youve done and tried everything to correct the issue to no avail.. The stock xmaxx motor has a HUGE design flaw that no KZbinr is talking about!! I found this out myself while having non stop gear mesh issues since my xmaxx was new out of the box. The Stock motor has PLASTIC end caps.. These end caps become loose and the holes wollow out on the motor casing! This causes your motor mount to be loose ON THE MOTOR ITSELF so when you think you have your motor mount bolted in nice and tightly to your chassis you wont even rellixe that your motor is ever so slightly rocking back and forth on the motor mount! This causes your gear mesh to be ever changing from too tight to too loose! I spent SO much money on my xmaxx replacing every single item remotely realiated to the gears and its mesh to no avail.. I went through COUNTLESS pinion and spur gears from mod 1 to mod 1.5 .. hardened or NOT! Finally I decieded to do a motor swap knowing it was the ONLY thing left that could be causing the issues (I thought the motor shaft must be bent) and only after FULLY removing the motor and looking at it closely did I realize that the motor mount was never tight to the motor itself from day ONE. and only kept getting worse with time.. MORAL OF THE STORY: If you think youve tried everything and are still having gear /gear mesh issues then get rid of that factroy motor! I listened to all the youtubers who said "Stock motor is great, no need to replace it!" and I got burned because of it! Dont be like me and save yourself the trouble as even if its not causing you an issue now.. it eventually will loosen up in the future and will start eating gears.

For anyone wondering.. I now run the Spectrum 1250kv motor with the thick 8mm shaft.. A max 6 ESC, a GPM 35t mod 1.5 Spur gear along with their lengthened spur gear shaft with the end bearing to help support all the torque.. and I run 13T / 14T GDS hardned mod 1.5 pinions which come with the bigger grub screw which is heaps better than any other pinion and it keeps the pinion from loosening up and falling off the shaft due to the tiny grub screws other companys use. The only good thing about having that hidden issue is ..now my xmaxx is fully upgraded because of it lol.

This is the problem with KZbinrs such as Jason and the rest of the m2c racing testers …..a stock x Maxx doesn’t need the all the aluminium extras doesn’t need a more powerful motor just a esc and upgrades in the right area such as captured pins servo esc tyres and gears
@tonytravers51224 ай бұрын
Adding all this extra weight will inevitably cause issues it’s just showcasing people to get the m2c hop ups and motors etc that these KZbinrs promote ……THUNDER RC proves you don’t need all this crap he’s one of the only KZbinrs to bash hard and show you all

You can use the pin system just go one pin higher on the pin chart. The pins keep the rear and front of the motor perfectly aligned straight to make sure that the mesh between the spur and the pinion is at a perfect zero degree angle to each other.
@mikeb34279 ай бұрын
The Xmaxx I had was just ok with the pin system. The mesh was a little tight for my liking but it was runable. I've been in the hobby since the late 80's and I'm surprised at how few people don't know how to properly set gear mesh in any kind of vehicle. It's not rocket science. You explained it very well.

I have beaten the snot out of my xmaxx for about 4 years now and I'm still running my original spur and pinion, never one had any issues. Ive broken SO MANY things on the truck but never once the spur or pinion. Maybe a quality control issue?
@troymartin41079 ай бұрын
I ran mine straight out of the box. Even if the pins are in they usually have some play in them. If you take them completely out the motor will move. I have metal motor mounts and the Traxxas metal washers still have to adjust almost every time. Just my experiences. Still going to watch your videos 😊

I just bought a brand new xmaxx last week, I just quickly checked my gear mesh after watching your video, and I have to say the factory mesh was perfect! I'm glad i check tho so thanks for pointing out a potential mode of failure. I wonder if this problem is more down to random manufacturing tolerances or bad batches of parts making it into production?

I've been in the rc hobby for 10+ years now. I've gone through my fair share of gears. I can't for the life of me (even with aftermarket motor mount) keep my pinion on my stock xmaxx motor. Green/red locktite with a MIP driver. I even bought tekno gears that have the 2.5m grub screws and let it sit a week, and it still fell off in 5 minutes. My mesh great and bearings are new. I'm starting to question if my motor is just vibrating wayy too much

Had the same problem and finally from some advice on Facebook group this has worked for me: Make sure to clean the new pinion with brake cleaner or equivalent, taking out the grub screw even to get the cleaner everywhere. Also clean the motor shaft. Then put blue Loctite into the hole on pinion some Loctite will get on motor shaft. Tighten down and leave truck 24-48hrs. I’ve done this exact process and it’s the only thing that worked. Hope this helps!

Straight out the box I have 2 of them 5 years on one and one year on the other, both have max 5 esc and metal gear steering servo and I drive them like there is no tomorrow. Make sure the motor screws are tight and square on the gear and you shouldn’t have an issue, put steel gears in and I’ll be damned if they strip. Don’t forget to grease them baby’s at least once a year.

Had stock gears for probably 40 plus packs of hard use and never had an issue 🤷. Just installed 19 tooth pinion from tekno and 50t spur from hot racing just because I wanted a better ratio. I still use the stock pin system and mount and it meshes perfect, zero issues thus far. I was fully ready to abandon the stock motor mount system if it didn’t mesh well, but it matched up great.

When I built mine, I used the hot racing motor mounts on the original motor and the mesh didn't mesh well 😅 so I tried different pin settings and one of the leaves a bit of wiggle room so the gears are NOT gonna be at each other to death. Definitely not the pin settings they call for, just a fyi

All you have to do for the motor gears to be meshed properly, just move the motor pin to one gear tooth higher. Exp running 17t pinion put the motor pins on the 18t slot mesh will be good 👍🏼

It's not in Traxxas interested to release vehicles that don't brake they make 100X more profit on parts then on vehicles initial sale. The original xmaxx has a anemic servo because bad steering is likely do you result in crashing which means more parts. Traxxas is in the profit business not in the having fun with you're RC business

I like my Xmaxx but the pins are useless. I admit that i like Arrma more than Traxxas but i do have a couple Traxxas rigs. I very much prefer the Arrma 6s and 8s motor mounting and adjustment. Like you said, mesh isn't rocket science.

I’m surprised yall have broken more shit. Suspension is pretty bulletproof but hell I’ve broken every piece of the drivetrain on multiple accounts besides the center driveshaft and driveshafts themselves. Diff cups,rear diff,front diff,center diff,spur,pinion. They take a beating for a while but as they age they really start to fall apart drivetrain wise. Maxx holds up way better in the long run
