That red TRD2000GT has had a paint job at some time, probably quite recently judging by the overspray visible in the pictures so it may well have originally been black. Based on the fact that it's a Japanese car and that MR2s can rust badly I would fully expect that car to need a full restoration, despite looking so good in the pictures. In terms of value I don't know if it would be worth it financially but if it was taken out of Japan it would probably be the only one in whatever country it went to so that would probably make it worth it for a car nut. The MR2 was so successful in JGT because, although it didn't have a lot of power compared to the vehicles it raced against, it was light and very well balanced so it could carry a lot of corner speed and could easily make a move up the inside of other cars in the braking zones into corners, as the racing footage shows it doing on the RX-7. Some of the foreign drivers (non-Japanese) that drove them in JGT said they were incredibly easy cars to make a dive-bomb down the inside in because it didn't seem to matter where you braked for the corner and what line you took the car would just turn in and grip with no problems. They were also very light on tyres and on fuel so they could continue turning laps when other cars had to hit the pits for fuel and tyres. The car was, effectively, banned from JGT for the 1999 season because the other manufacturers got extremely upset at having their arses handed to them by a car that was pretty much at the end of its production life though I believe a lot of the JGT cars went on to have racing careers in other countries...

As a mr2 owner, I love the detail on this video! Awesome!! Not many people know about this special edition...I have an 88 supercharged and I love it!! Can you do a video like this but for the super edition version?

Vehicle harmonic I thing means high grade car. Barnacle refers to Fujitsubo, likely exhaust. External aluminum I believe refers to off brand wheels.

I might have missed it but did you mention there wer 10 or so of the original TRD kits that made it to America. One of them was used to make all the replicas we see today. The most famous one was the red and white one TRD USA used to send around to car shows/events. I have one in my garage, and I used to know a guy in Seattle with one.

Also good video. :)

pjs1975101 Actually I did mention that only around 10 made it to the US, but you didn't hear it because it didn't make the cut. :D I had not heard that this is where the molds came from. That's a cool bit of information! Thanks for contributing!

I think the vehicle harmonic refers to an exhaust, which only reinstates the comment from WasabiCars about barnacle being Fujitsubo, fujitsubo made some exhausts for mr2's so would make sense.

You really should do weekly vids. You would dominate. The game isn't actually content (well, it kinda is, in which you seem to not have trouble with) but building an audience.

I heard you could build these from the factory tuned up and whatnot. Supposedly someone ordered one with 500hp. I'm sure someone in Japan knows all the stories

Great Vid! Random Question, do you know how many 6th Gen Toyota Celica convertibles came with the naturally aspirated 3rd gen 3S-GE engine? Literally can’t find info on it anywhere as most convertibles came with the standard 2.2L 5S-FE engine...
@ambercorners6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I believe that the 3S-GE was only used in Japanese and European Celicas, while the US received the 5S-FE (Similar to NA MR2s). That may be why you're having trouble. I would try some European sources. This might get you started- www.celica-club.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Gen_6_Facts_&_Figures

I was also wondering the same thing...maybe a 90 - 93 model that was given the technocraft body kit by Toyota? Seems really weird because I thought these rolled off the assembly line and where then modified by Toyota.
@arkadia24776 жыл бұрын
its weird that it ha the gen 2 3sgte but it still has the taillights that came on the naturally aspirated version. Idk if they were an option on the turbo model or not, just an observation. Either way a really cool find for the mr2 community, love the vids.
@ambercorners6 жыл бұрын
These tail lights were standard on all 1990-1993 MR2s. The circular tail lights are from 94+ and are such a common swap that it's almost strange to see the earlier versions fitted. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
@toddk41156 жыл бұрын
The kit isn't nearly as nice as the race car versions. This is mainly because the fender wheel radius is cut up higher on the race cars giving it a meaner lower slung look.

thats very cool sorry you dont like red cars but im planning to buy a replica trd2000gt kit and have it in ferrari red, the red on that one was a little too orangy, and the black wheels dont go well with the red, white wheels is where its at.
@ambercorners6 жыл бұрын
I don't have anything against red cars, they just aren't my preference. Good luck with your replica! Widebody conversions aren't my thing generally either, but the history behind the TRD2000GT is too cool to ignore.

I thought Dandism was a Japanese word for machismo, or manliness ? Some things just dont translate well.
