Coming from being a fan of Purrp's PHONK movement since 2011 I really like Tread a lot. I only knew half these artists and am pretty hype to learn about the new ones! Kray and Oogie sold Tread as a sub-genre for me. RCB is a CRAZY example of it. I feel like Tread and Surge are a pretty natural progressions of Purrp's sound over anything though, a lot of the more wild examples in the subs sound like the 66.6 tape sometimes mixed with a bit of Cloud rap in atmosphere and sometimes a bit of Trap in cadence.

So something I want to acknowledge is that "Tread" as it was in 2016-2018 or so has kinda transformed into this new wave of artists making "Surge" (which is probably a more accurate way to label RCB than "Tread"). I see these two movements as having some similarities, but it could also just be a coincidence. Either way I want to recommend Dismiss Yourself's "Surge Compilation" for some good examples of how the sound has been shaping in recent years Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4a9nWitacerobc

So crazy you’re talking about RCB I went to one of their first LA shows a couple years back and it was definitely underground both in good and bad connotations lol. Love their music still to this day. I’ve been delving into other music in the underground this year that’s similar sonically that’s *somewhat* like if dance music and tread had a baby. Artists like Oaf1, the group RudeClub, and Capoxxo have all contributed a ton to the sound as of the past year or so immensely, and they all are making this new sound that I haven’t seen stylistically approached since the Basshunter days of Myspace in the early 2000’s. These guys music sounds like a low fidelity take on the happy hardcore rave music of that era and its a lot more interesting to me and free than the “Hyperpop” / “Digicore” stuff thats blown up this year. I truly dont know what to call their scene, but I highly recommend checking out *Oaf1, RudeClub, Pvscale, Capoxxo, or Hinoni*
