The sign with the fish on it (minute 3:57) says something like "Let's all protect this clean/beautiful waterway. This clean water is an important treasure for all of us." So what are they trying to say? It's not clear, but I assume it means they are politely trying to say, don't throw or dump anything in this water.

You need to get a small terminal screw driver and clean the splines on the wiper spindle... the wiper spindle is made from steel and the wiper arm is an alloy, the steel splines dig into the soft alloy wiper arm to grip it when the nut is tightened. Every spline must be cleaned, its tedious but your wiper will always come loose unless the splines are cleared of compacted alloy from the wiper arm. Good luck.

Hi guys My understanding of the current rules travelling across China in your own vehicle without a Chinese driving licence is that you will need to pay for a ‘pilot’ to travel with you so you don’t go and visit anywhere you shouldn’t and you also have to pay all their overnight accommodations till you get to Thailand. Also check with taking camper and into Thailand. We are trying to do the route in reverse so want to cross from Malaysia into Thailand but have been told campervans aren’t being allowed in from this direction but the Laos border is more lenient so may have to transport to the Laos border, unload and do a quick u turn back in.

Hi, this is Shaun here. I’ve been watching your vlogs for about a week or so now, first those of your travels in Japan, where I spent 36 years up until 2021, now back in NZ. You were asking whether it's always as green in Japan. It is green from the new leaves in spring until the end of summer, when all the deciduous trees (most trees in the neatural forests) change colour and drop their leaves, then over the winter there's a lot of brown because even the grass goes brown because of the dry winter. Although in the Tohoku (= 'north-east') Region and especially the Hokuriku (= 'northern lands') Region, like Hokkaido, there is a lot of snow. It was very strange to come back to NZ and see snow on the green farm paddocks. Also, you spoke of the roof over the footpath in Toka-machi, Niigata. This is because of the heavy snowfall. You might have noticed a concrete piece down the middle of the road. This covers pipes with sprinklers to spray warm water onto the road to melt the snow, rather than grading.

The Japanese Serow is actually a kind of antelope. It is sometimes referred to as an 'antelope-goat'. In Japanese, it is called a 'kamoshika'. 'Shika' being the word for deer. There are 'sika deer' in the UK, and they are actually a species introduced from Japan. The difference between 'sika' and 'shika' is nothing more than the different systems of writing Japanese in Roman letters. The former the now mostly unused archaic system and the latter the modern system taught in schools. So, in the UK when people say 'sika deer' they are actually saying nothing more than 'deer' twice. Once in Japanese and the other in English.

Back here in Blighty the BBC are reporting about the number of empty/abandoned properties in Japan. Have you witnessed this? Extract from the report attached.... Official figures report that there are more than eight million houses standing empty across Japan, the reality could be even higher. One of the highest concentrations of empty houses or ‘Akiya’ as they are known, is in the Prefecture of Akita, in Northern Japan, where in the past five years, houses have been abandoned at a rate of 13.6 percent.
@TREADtheglobe Жыл бұрын
Yes there are lots of empty houses and it is something to do with inheritance - and the responsibility of bringing the house up to code ... But we have also seen a lot of renovation projects too ... so not sure the exact situation here.

It is not advised to go to China at these days as you will have high possibility to be regard as spies. According to Google Lens, the fishway sign says "Let's protect streams and canals together. Water is our most valuable asset." Hard to argue with that! Those were some zen-looking monkeys!! I suppose living next to hot springs and having a soak whenever it's fancied would have the same effect on me, too. 😊 Ryan aka Father Christmas is quite the wrench wizard! 🪄 Big ups to him for his help! Can't put my finger on what in this episode brought it to mind, but here's a quote from the underrated Tom Hanks movie "Joe Versus The Volcano": "My father says that almost the whole world is asleep.
