I lived in Japan in the early eighties, teaching English, enjoying Japanese culture, and I lived in a very old, old style Japanese house in walking distance from Kinkakuji Temple aka the Golden Pavillion. One morning while still half asleep, I felt some Buddhist monk spirits come very close to me. They were observing me and were very surprised to see me, a foreigner. They were having a conversation about me, as I lay there aware of their presence. This was not a dream. This was tuning in to "the other side".

Don’t go to China. I’m not superstitious, but perhaps what gave you the WD40 is also giving you a message with all these obstacles towards China. A place where KZbin isn’t allowed sounds not just stressful but dangerous. One little thing happens and you might end up in big trouble there. China is not like Japan. Please reconsider 😢

The gods and Buddhas of Nachi will watch over you until the end of your journey.😉 A lubricating oil spray commonly used in Japan is kure 5-56. This is available not only at auto parts stores, but also at DIY shops and large supermarkets, and is inexpensive and reasonably effective. Good to keep.

The Kumano Nachi Shrine is where the first Emperor prayed to restart his journey to conquer and unite Japan 2millenials ago, after being defeated in a former war and losing his brother in a battle. So many people, including the current Emperor and politicians come to pray when they need a fresh start to life. It is one of the foundational shrines in Japan and thus is probably one of the most spiritual and powerful. So, I am not surprised that Trudy got some WD-40 to give the door a fresh restart.

Is it an option to ship Trudy to wait for you and you rent a different vehicle for China? Would that invalidate your goals? I would send those hard drives somewhere else to wait for you too. China is not uniform, one place can be very different from another, one official different from another, the rules can be serious, generally there is less politeness, and less willingness to help. I went three times and two were good. Once an old man was beaten nearly to death in front of me by a policeman for a very minor offense in public, in broad daylight with tourists everywhere. I would say visit, drive, whatever, but do it in something more reliable, more low key, and less in your face. Glad everything worked out for you in this video!

Hey guys. Sorry you've been dealt some curveballs! If you do go to China, post your hard disks home first. I've seen so many KZbinrs have theirs confiscated even after gaining permission. The authorities are most likely going to want to audit everything you upload (if you are even allowed to!). Please be safe. Your unfolding story is inspirational and heart warming.

Your conclusion at the end, about the solutions that unflolded miraculously for you, when that can of WD40 fell out, I knew it was the prayers at the Temple. Then you by "luck" spotting the flat tire at the best time, and the RV Dealer having the key you needed for the bolt on the spare tire, that just clinched it. I lived in Japan 3 years and can attest to the power of prayer, no matter what religion one has. Japanese "kami" are for real. Good vibes.

Quiz- How did WD-40 get its name? WD stands for "water displacement" (yes, it can be used as a lubricant (not really good for door locks as dirt and dust can stick to it) and can be wiped on metal to keep it from rusting. The 40 come from the formulations, it was the 40th formulation that the company decided was the best one hence WD-40. The temples where really nice and that water fall amazing! Thanks for another great video.

@@TREADtheglobe Your welcome. I forgot to tell you WD-40 is great for freeing dirty parts. It is not a lubricant like many people think. Because you drive in areas that attract dirt you need a dry lubricant. I don't know what they have in Japan but lube for locks and hinges that don't leave a oily mess that attracts dirt. Happy and safe travels.

Although it would not help with a valve problem, please buy a can of tyre repair solution. I bought one in 1978 before travelling around Europe for 3 years, kept it while working in the UK for another 2 years, then took it to South Africa, where I needed it another 6 months later. All the instructions on the can had, by then, been scratched off, but I attached it to the tyre, pressed the button and Hey Presto!, it worked and I drove off the beach. 600 km of driving later, I had the puncture repaired. Apart from that, almost all of the breakdowns I had were within metres of a garage!

Lucky again ? Thanks to uncle dad , WD40 😂😂😂😂, that’s the way the cookie crumbles 🎉🎉🎉, patience and attitude always pays off. We all have some kind of car problems on any journey , it’s either a puncture , battery not charging , alternator problems or windshield wiper 😢😢😢

i did Japan and China trips in 2016 through a tour group - did actually see Meiji shrine but this is a very good video enjoyed China immensely - Beijing, Xian, Chengdu and Shanghai probably too big a country to cover by Trudy

Our dental floss(not earth shaterringly important I know) just disappeared. A few days later I said to Bill oh you found the floss as it was on the bathroom cupboard in plain sight not missable at all. He came in to the bathroom and said no i thought you found it and put it there. Nope not me. Our resident house ghost (yep this sort of thing happens in the house has been up to mischief again). I think it's been on a trip to Japan luckily for you😂

Ya know... I would be wd-40 every hinge, lock and runner on your van. I do it in my motorhome often. I do try to use a spray lube that is not oil based as not to attract dust.

We discussed this at length with friends and family who have done adventures - as my dad said, if there are roads, there are cars, if there are cars there are repair shops !! We also carry a repair kit if we were to get two punctures 👍

In Japan, dashboard temperatures can exceed 70 degrees in the hot summer sun. Care should be taken not to leave heat-sensitive items or items containing lithium-ion batteries in the car. It is known that many cars made in countries with low humidity, such as the UK, deteriorate rapidly in humid countries. Please continue to be careful when passing through humid countries.

Thankyou!!!! I desperately needed that WD40 story right now as I've been a bit low lately. It reminds me that serendipitous moments occur not because of luck, but because a higher power guiding our way and looking out for us.
