I don't understand why so many critics dislike the film's mix of Victorian (?) setting with sci-fi. I love it and think it is unique looking
@FalonGrey2 жыл бұрын
Same. Steampunk is so overdone, but this film did Neo-Victorianism pretty well, and I think it's because the makers had a 70/30 rule. 70% Victorian style, 30% Sci Fi.
@nova87472 жыл бұрын
@GoTi4No Maybe in films, although I've seen a fair few that would probably qualify for Steampunk, but video games are a whole other story, Both triple A and Indie games are fairly plentiful with Steampunk stuff.

if this movie had come out today, everyone would be raving over it for the next 2 years. the quality of live-action movies has overall increased (barring cash-grab disney remakes) but the quality of american animated movies has dropped off the radar (which is sad, because Now Generation Alpha is subsidizing Anime from Japan to make up the difference and won't grow up with the cool stuff 80s, 90s and 2000s kids had.) Even Pixar, the notorious colossus of quality, has lost some of it's steam with it's recent stuff. it's very sad.

As the analogue for _Treasure Island's_ Dr. Livesey that he's supposed to be, Delbert represents one of the key failures of this movie. Doppler is very little like Livesey. Captain Amelia is also a poor analogue for Captain Smollet. Although the issue with Doppler is worse, as Livesey, together with Silver, are the heart and soul of _Treasure Island._ Despite being the narrator, Jim is really just a supporting character. Or he's supposed to be. This adaption is well animated, but it wrecked the character chemistry which is essential to the charm of Stevenson's tale.

Matthew Christiansen when I first saw this movie a few months ago these where my reaction to the villains, my first reaction to Silver was "What the hell is that thing?!" when I first saw Scroop I was like "Umm... anybody got some bug spray?" and when I saw the other pirates my reactions ranged anywhere from "Oh... that's kinda cute.... I guess?" to, "HOLY SHIT! GOOD LORD WHAT DARK MAGIC IS THIS!" (I saw the movie once at the age of four but I was to young to remember it so I'll count my viewing at the age of fifteen as my first).
