Hello. Thank you for sharing your understanding of seizures and treatment. Within the past year, my 3 yo Aussie began having random seizures. I treated him with CBD + MCT oil with a positive result of stopping seizures. When Buddy receives the oil 3x daily, no seizures . The two times that I reduced the amount given, Buddy had a seizure. In addtion to the CBD, I play music frequencies to relax his mind.

hello, kindly share which music please. My 13 year old dog started having seizure this month and I am so devasted. It gets so severe and have started on phenobarital tabs but he still is having seizures. I tried coconut oil and cbd honey (cbd is not legal where I live but managed to get cbd honey but it did have some traces of ethanol I believe) , but that did not work and seizure started getting frequent and everyday. Kindly share what I can do to help him.

My boy has had 4 seizures in the last month and a half. He is one week from his 17th birthday. He has never had a seizure and my vet said that the MRI costs $1,500 -$2,500. But were waiting for the blood work to come back. As we drove home from the vet appointment my boy had a seizure. Then another and another and another and another one, I quit counting after his 20th seizure! I needed to get him to a vet because after seeing him suffering beyond belief all the vets refused to let us stop and look at him so we had to drive hours until we got to our home town and even then she was out to lunch and so she was not even able to administer a tranquilizer for 2 more hours! My boy in between seizures would bark and bark and it was ear shattering he was in so much pain. I blame the flea medication for his seizures but it didn't seem that the holistic vet we went to agreed. He wanted to see his blood work, I ended up euthanizing him to end his suffering. I was overwhelmed with heartache as just 2 weeks before that his housemate Kramer also a Bichon Frise passed away in my arms also due to a seizure! He was being treated for a bacterial infection. I now feel instead of giving him ampicillin I should have looked into what was causing his seizures.

So sorry for your loss, its so heartbreaking to read stories like this and I do almost every day from the Facebook communities I'm involved with... If you ever need support with your pets, prevent rather than treat, search for the group As Nature Intended. Bless you and again, so sorry for what you had to go through

Thank you. I had a 3 year old golden retriever dog come in today having seizures since May ( usually at rest ) and a few more in Sept . Had a few short ones earlier today . Already on Kbr once a day and Phenobarb twice a day ( was in therapeutic range) with normal bloodwork from another vet and owner has Midazolam intranasal at home that doesn't seem to be working as well as it was for seizures . I added ext release Keppra twice day at 20mg/kg . Recommended specialist if All 3 not working but explained it's likely idiopathic epilepsy . Your video is very helpful.
@SEVNeurology3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you're doing everything right. I assume CBC/chem, etc are normal. Don't be afraid of slightly higher doses of Keppra. I used to start at 20mg/kg, but will typically now start around 30mg/kg and will go as high as 60mg/kg. Is his neurological examination normal? Is he normal between episodes?

I would like to know what the dog at or just after the 6 minute mark in your video was having. Our dog Rosie had what we think was a seizure but it looked very much like what the dog at the 6 minute mark had. She is about 8 years old and some sort of black lab mix. She had the episode in the morning. She got out of bed fast and was heading for the outside door as she does when she needs to go potty. I wasn't awake yet and heard her crashing around. I got up and she had defecated, falling partly into it and was all stiff with short small breaths.I didn't see her paddling much. I tried to comfort her to get her out of it. It lasted 10 or more minutes. It's been since 11/21/21 until 11/25/21 and she is getting around better, but still very week. I think she should be on a does of phenobarbital to stop her from having another one, but haven't heard back from the vet yet. And blood test to monitor levels. We took her to the vet and got rectal diazepam in case she had another one and are waiting on blood tests. We got her when she was 1 year old and she would spin around in circles and fall down and once in a great while have what we think are short half minute or so seizures. We took her to the vet then and she told us that Rosie's skull cavity was small for her brain size and that she might go crazy in older age because of that. But she seemed to outgrow her problem or at least it happened very few times and she went for daily walks a mile or more and had lots of energy playing with sticks and chasing balls, seemed to be in great shape. I'm trying to figure out what happened and get her back to normal. I'm going to see what i can find out about hypoglycemia in dogs. Thanks for the very informative video.

Hi... you could research the benefits of omega 3 fatty acids, CBD and MCT oil, a probiotic/prebiotic because its the gut microbiome that supports the dogs liver and brain function... also diet free of preservatives and artificials, eliminate exposure to pesticides, fertilisers, herbicides, chemicals and other poisons and toxins. Applying ice pack to the spine may help before, during and after seizures. Consider a consult with a holistic vet who specialises in Chinese medicine and also a canine nutritionist to help formulate a clean, balanced nutritious diet... I'm a researcher, you can reach out to me in Facebook if you would like to have access to resources to research (resources come from vets, nutritionists, herbalists etc). WHen treating our pets, we must consider them as a whole. I wish you well

It would be awesome if you could deepend the subject of the diseases that mimic seizuring activity, great webinar btw. Also you spoke about not breaking the tablets, were you talking about levetiracetam only, or phenobarbital as well? And why?

The same answer as it is for us humans when it comes to pills/tablet drugs.

For clarification, delta-9 THC is the only schedule 1 cannabinoid, and while CBD has been studied for use in humans and shows some efficacy, there are only a few small studies that suggest efficacy in canines

I see these comments are a year or older but I'll ask anyway. My dog is seeing a Neurologist tomorrow because he's suffered two seizures in three months. My dog (Chihuahua mix) also tested positive for Cushings disease two months ago and is currently taking 75mg of Ursodiol daily. Are there still medications he can take to help control his seizures? if so which one would it most likely be?

i realise this video is quite dated... our senior dog had seizures a week prior to his passing.. can ehrlichlia or heartworm cause that?
@HeatherDMorris3 жыл бұрын
Meant to ask. What's the likelihood of UTI contributing to seizures? I've learned from a few vets it's possible. Thank you.

Would a dialated pupil on one side with a head tilt and nystagmus that comes and goes in severity lean more towards a brain tumor?
@SEVNeurology Жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Sometimes dogs with ear infections can have different-sized pupils and head tilt/nystagmus. There are other causes as well.

My kitten just had a seizure. I'm assuming it's her 1st. I rescued her from the 20degree weather. She's probably 4months old.. I'm already in love with midnight that's her name.. I'm so scared for her.. all I could do and still doing is cry. And tell her that I'm so sorry this is happening to her.. I've never seen an animal or a person have a seizure. It was most definitely a seizure. She was shaking in my arms. Her eyes were wide and twitching. And doing biting with her mouth. I'm so scared for her. I won't be sleeping tonight.. this baby has mama to take care of her

Hello, my cat has been taking half of a 16.2mg phenobarbital pill every 12 hours for seizures. It worked fine for about a year. Now she is having more seizures. Almost daily. Can I increase the dose? She weighs more now (about 11 pounds). Thanks for any guidance.
