Suggestion if I may...I noticed the dog is affected by the smell of food in the lure hand so I would take the food with the reward hand to prevent the focus being away from the behaviour towards the focus being in the reward. Hope this makes sense 👍😉

I try to give it to her while she's laying down but once it gets too far she just stands up and then she gets frustrated because I'm not giving her the treat. She has never once shifted on her side for me to get any further than a down. Are there other methods? This is the only one I've seen and it just isn't working...

Lots of people comment that "play dead" is a morbid stick. Instead, call it "Naptime" and make the cue "Naptime!" plus visually look like you are putting your hands under your pillow and pretending to sleep instead.
@whenhoundsflyonline11 жыл бұрын
If you cue "Sit" and she goes straight to "Play Dead", no click, no treat. If you cue "Sit" and she Sits and pauses half a beat, click, treat If you cue "Bang" and she goes to Sit and stays there in sit for too long, no click, no treat. If you cue "Bang" and she goes to "Play Dead", click, treat. This is the process of establishing cue discrimination and stimulus control. Good luck!
@howtotrainadogeasily81999 жыл бұрын
Nice trick....like fading commands as it shows in the video, it would be good to use a fading technique with the treats. Don't want to have to give a treat every time at some point. I'm sure you have it covered in another video.

You could use a verbal cue instead like "bang bang" or "Nap time". For visual cues, palm up and turn to palm down (like you're turning a page)

The best way to teach a dog is to let them learn by watching and listening to you. Every dog has a different personality, so they can all learn without treats.

+shaman red if they all have different personalities ... how can you say what the"best" way is?

Go back and re-teach sit. If you say sit, click/treat for sit. If you cue "bang" and she plays dead, click/treat. If you cue sit, and she plays dead, no click, no treat. That is how she can start discriminating cues.
