Wait for supporters of the bill. I read the ACT’s Q+A about it, I read the bill itself, and the disclosure statement from the MoJ. It appears that the MoJ has raised two very obvious concerns as the bill pertains to NZ’s obligations under Waitangi and International treaties. The Waitangi tribunal also stated that it was “unfair, discriminatory, and inconsistent with the principles of the Treaty, contrary to the article 2 guarantee of tino rangatiratanga…” I’m not from New Zealand but to me it seems clear this would cause a constitutional crisis in the country? also if the argument is that the Treaty Act of 1975 is not specific enough and disagree with the “partnership” interpretation, and they believe article 1 states the gov. Of NZ has the right to govern over all the people how does that juxtapose with the 2014 tribunal finding that the Māori never ceded sovereignty to Britain?

By the time I finish each article I seem to come to the conclusion that the Māori are looking for special treatment and the ability to use different standards when it comes to judgment… or do I have this wrong? Sorry, I just can’t find any information that explains it much differently
@tanepukenga14212 ай бұрын
@@zackbamberg50 No it doesn't, that's only one clause which once you get down to the next clause you see it destroys any "equality". First it entrenches the laws that are still based on race, like perpetual leases where WE have to pay the people who stole our land and is currently occupying it forever to still be the legal owners - which we're not allowed to sell off. The next article of it states that we're not allowed to go to court anymore for illegal actions taken against us from the government except in a single 49 year period of history. Meaning that anything illegal they do to us next, like when they tried to restart land confiscations in the 2010's, that we would not be able to legally fight it in court. The next principal gives the government full power over the courts. You have it wrong - which is exactly why the David Seymour guy designed it that way. So it SOUNDS reasonable, until you actually read a little further. No one in their right mind would accept those terms, which is why he's trying to force it onto us against our will and consent: and here consent to change a contract, unless you're Maori. Then Seymour gets to do it to us however he likes. As you can see, there's not "equal" about that, now is there?

From what I can catch the male voice is "E ki e ki koutou e mate kaiana mo nga taonga o te iwi Maori" "E ki e ki" like, the cheek/audacity. Koutou/you all, mate/kill, kaiana(???), mo nga taonga/ for the treasures passed down from ancestors, o te iwi Maori/ of the Maori people. Sorry our language was banned and I'm one of those that didn't receive it from my elders, now I'm an elder

A bill can be proposed and people have rights to oppose any bill, but this is not how it’s done in democracy. These people interrupting the process of parliament are insulting everyone who voted for ACT and everyone who supports the bill-and there are many people who do support the bill. Referendum is a clear way to show what people really want.

This certainly was a historic day for New Zealand and for democracy. The Treaty Principles Bill passed it's first reading in the House of Parliament. A bill that seeks to clarify the constitutonal interpretation of the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand's founding document. I applaud and thank David Seymour for his bravery and honor in presenting the bill and for those MPs who voted to pass it to it's second reading. This bill could get the most submissions ever from Kiwis three times over. They might need sophisticated AI and dozens of staffers just to organise it. They may have to extend submissions out for a full year aa they will keep piling and piling in. All Kiwis know about this and have strong feelings about this issue.

This bill is about screwing Maori again or taking away what little Maori still have is it about undermining the Treaty and becoming a republic than goodbye privy council.

Focus on getting in the waka and working together - Kiingi Tuheitia. United laws with consultation and equal input from Tangata whenua and Tangata tiriti. More equal than others IS colonisation NOT make-believe phrases like Māori elitism. Co-governance is in the treaty. Brits replaced rangatiratanga (run by local chiefs) with sovereignty (run by UK royals).

You talk about Maori things now being shove down your throats what a joke cause from day 1 Maori have had to take so so much being shove down our throats while the Pakeha raped and pillaged living in wealth and luxury and encouraged all Europeans to come here to ensure Maori became the minority. Now this bloke wants to fool us into changing history to suit others that are fresh off the boat and they are only too willing assist in any way they can.
