We Are All Treaty People
A conversation about First Nations perspectives on treaty making, what it means to 'be in treaty', and understanding how Treaties form the basis of the country of Canada.
The “In Conversation with Lewis Cardinal” series of webinars, designed for shelter workers, aims to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that support more positive relationship building with Indigenous women, families, and communities.
Lewis Cardinal has a long track record of involvement with many, many, Human Rights and Social Advocacy Boards. He was a founding board member of Racism Free Edmonton, vice-president of the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights, founder of the Indigenous Peoples’ Arts and Culture Coalition, founding board member of Alberta Aboriginal Arts, and co-chair of the Aboriginal Commission on Human Rights and Justice. Lewis has received Canada’s highest Aboriginal recognition award the National Aboriginal Achievement Award for Public Service, as well as receiving the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Inspired Award for public service, the Alberta Centennial Medal, the Distinguished Alumni Award from Grant Mac Ewan University, and the Anti-Racism Award from the Centre for Race and Culture.
Lewis is currently working with ACWS and First Nations Member Shelters to develop and implement the Statement of Principles, Values, and Commitments to Actions for Indigenous Women, Girls, and Their Families.
