I like your stuff guy. I have to tell you that you totally hit the nail on the head when you talk about how family or friends just don't get it when they ask about your day. I deal with the same thing on a daily basis. My in-laws think I'm a landscaper cutting hedges and complain when I don't have the energy to entertain them at the end of my day climbing and bidding. Thanks for relating.

this is your best vid yet! i suppose relating climbing is like relating combat. probably for the same reason that no sane person would want to do it. there is no way to relate unless the person your talking to has been there, and those who haven't couldn't care less. what was the old saying? if i have to explain it, you won't understand. lol. both are super fun, super scary, super dangerous... but something keeps you coming back for more. climb safe.

•Hey don't you guys keep BEE spray in the truck? •Part of the value of arbor videos on KZbin is, you can show people something about our work, and what we mean when we insist we are NOT GARDENERS, landscapers, etc. •I had been to forestry school and worked in timber management, which was very rewarding. But I was engaged and moved way down the length of California. I needed a job. I got a government job with a coastal city and was willing to take anything just to get started. It turned out to be an arborist course that mixed the work of a city tree crew with a college-style training course. I've enjoyed the work since the 1980s, both privately and for bigger companies.

Great video. I used to be an "IT" database administrator for 15 years and my wife or anybody else never really understood what I did... I'm not 100% sure that I did either in that it would be difficult to explain just what was involved and what was at stake..... only another DBA would understand... but even they wouldn't understand 100% unless they worked in a similar shop where DBA's had similar responsibilities.
@TrevorDennis1005 жыл бұрын
A question that came to mind right after seeing the close call at 11:05 was how important are the crew? I can't imagine your rope man allowing a big piece to swing back at the climber if he's been told to let it run a bit. You work as a team and it is poetry in motion. I see quite a lot of running in your videos. When one of the lads needs to be somewhere - and especially if it is to get to where someone else needs a hand - they don't waste time, and they don't need to think about it. They get there fast but safely, and everyone goes home safe and happy when the tree is chipped and squared away. That must be an important aspect of any lead arborist's operation.

Man I have worked as a Tree-man AKA Arborist from age twelve as a pro to this very day. I am 50 years old now. For me it was not so much made for this. It was born into this. More like it has always been a part of me. I owned a tree service and land clearing/logging service from 1989 to 2000 (age 19 to 30) out of Seattle, WA I moved more into trucking and heavy equipment and just do tree work part time now days. People know me, trust me, and want me to do their work. So I do the tree work. It is fun most of the time. They are the people that helped me pay the bills. So if they ask me to climb. I climb and I am happy to do it. :)

Really good video, I don't think you should tell your loved ones all the close calls, They happen in life anyway and people don't really know how to react when you try to explain them, I guess we love the Adrenalin in anything we do and its our choice to go stand on the edge but once you get the taste for it then its hard to imagine another existence, Wives can never follow it because if they really did then they would try to stop you and Kids would fear for you and Truly I can tell you that would get you killed, So many of us live that edge and keeping sharp keeps you from going over the edge, If you Truly start to think of all the Variables then you will cause them to go against you, while you stay Fluid and Moving on your wits then you ride that ride. Only the people who are drawn to your thrill can ever understand what you go through and what gets you moving. The Brother Hood of your Sport that we call work is what binds us and the Loss we all feel when one does not come home, That is what ties is the world over, Man, Women or Chip Munk LOL You only owe one thing in life and that is to come home every day. Stay Safe and Play Hard. By the way unless your standing on the edge then your taking up to much room. Garry

Your Video's and your Crew are the Real Deal Matey, your bringing real entertainment through management of risk in a truly professional way and you also on a personal note keep the eye on the Edge. So I have the Greatest respect and admiration for you all there. I also want to say that you also show your ethics that we do not always enjoy the taking of life which I think some one like you needs to say, like you did so well with the Church Tree, People just assume wrongly that we just do it for the pay, But the Customer must be safe and at the end of the day they have to be happy, so we don't always get to decide all the outcomes. Our Whole lives are educated risk, But like you said Gravity is a known but once Mass and Momentum is set in motion then we are along for the ride with only our educated guess work to decide if we are Hero's or we are Men doing our best in a seriously tough arena, But we get her done at the end of the day, cause you know when I go to work stuff is gunna swing and its coming down, LOL well its not gunna be up there all day is it :-), Stay Safe Matey From OZ to you Guys Yours Truly Garry

Enjoyed the video as always. I was amazed at the different perspectives and I liked the family perspective. I work with my wife, daughter and boys in our business. No outside workers, although that may change. Working only with family definitely has it's challenges, but I think the rewards outweigh them. I wouldn't trade climbing with my wife and boys for anything! My wife is a master at "letting it run".

Absolutely 100% love your videos. Hopefully in the not so far future, I'll have the time to make some of my own. They're educational and give people a little view into what we do. Our days are all numbered, so we have to make hay while the sun shines. Nothing is more satisfying and gratifying than a tree job well done, when everyone gets to go home safe at the end of a job. Even jumping out of airplanes is boring compared to our day to day life.

Big fan my tree brother. In your video you asked about embarrassing moments. I've owned my own Tree Service for 20 years, I'm a 3rd generation tree climber. But when I was 16 and thought I knew it all, I butt caught a 30ft top on a natural crotch which is basic but I used a small diameter let down rope trying to show off and of course the rope popped and hit a water main in the subdivision I was working in. I knocked out water for over 3,000 homeowners. Humility is something I didn't know about but learned real quick.
