Sounds like you have a great partnership with the tree service Sam. Not having to deal with the felling and the brush really streamlines the process to achieve the final goal, sellable firewood. 😀

I’d say it’s definitely worth it, especially if the logs are free or nearly free. Thanks for sharing!
@samsdoinstuffАй бұрын
I agree. There's definitely some cost involved. Driving back and forth and bringing the tractor is a cost. The time doesn't bother me. Way better than doing a whole tree job 🤠👍
@mattv9240Ай бұрын
@ That’s a good point. Like you said, no felling or cleanup as well. I lost a bunch of trees in a wind storm last summer. Limbing, bucking, and getting them out of the woods is a lot of hard work and very time consuming. Even with a tractor.
@DennisComitoАй бұрын
Was wondering Sam, if a pallet would fit in the metal bins so you could stack it at home, use the pallet to move the wood to the trailer and, if the homeowner wants to pay a few dollars more, you could unload an already stacked pile of firewood and could charge more for the stacked wood to help pay for the pallet. Another advantage, to encourage them to buy from you again, could be if you offer the homeowner a lower cost the next time they order firewood and give you back the pallet you used to initially deliver it. Just a thought. Hope you and yours had a great Thanksgiving.
@samsdoinstuffАй бұрын
@DennisComito Thank you! I do have a plan in place to deliver the metal totes full of stacked wood at a premium price. I just need an all terrain powered pallet jack to deliver them. The pallet jack costs about $10k. It may seem like a lot but it's far cheaper than anything else that would lift and transport that much weight 🤠👍

I posted a comment a couple weeks ago that disappeared. Going to try again. If you have no other use for the bladders, on Ants Pants , he shows how to convert them to store wood etc. Cheap and easy way to have more use of the whole tote.

An ongoing debate, for sure. I feel it's worth it but you have to make sure you're clear with the tree service company of what you want and don't want. Keep cuttin' brother!

@@TravisDoesFirewood Thank you! Yes, it needs to stay mutually beneficial 🤠👍

Hey Sam, nice to see you get along. Maybe the company would let you process wood at their place; cut, split and stack into totes. This would save you a lot of rehandling. You would save a lot that way. It might be worth to pay them more, for saving time. Maybe, all things right, you might even avoid the tractor transportation to their place. Just unload full totes at your place.
@samsdoinstuffАй бұрын
That's a good idea! We'll see what develops 🤠👍
@kestlovsАй бұрын
I have yet another idea! You could load logs using a ramp and a winch. You wouldn't need to use a tractor, and thus you wouldn't need to cut them at ineficient lengths.

Seems worth the effort to me! Especially when you don't have to load them!

I actually pay for tree service logs, but he delivers them to my house. Problem is inevitably there are some monsters that i don't want to deal with. I much prefer firewood poles, so much nicer to process, but again don't always get prime species and its more expensive per cord than the tree service. I also always have trees on my own property that come down or need taken down, but that is the most labor intensive source.
