Thank you Lexi for the wonderful talk!
Trees and Climate Change: Local and Regional Connections
Description:
The climate is changing, and so are our rural and urban forests. January's lunchtime tree talk series invites you to think about the connections between trees and the climate at the local, regional, and planetary levels. We'll discuss broad connections, like the benefits of tree planting and the effects of global warming on established forests, as well as local and regional policies that dictate where trees are located now and where they will be needed most in the future.
Speaker bio:
Lexi Brewer is a Tacoma native and sustainability professional who is well versed in the connections between climate change and our regional forests. Lexi has served for the past several years as a member of the Sustainable Tacoma Commission and the manager of the Puyallup Watershed Initiative's Forests Community of Interest, bringing together individuals and organizations that work with trees and forests from the Mountain to the Sound.
She has an M.S. in Natural Resources and Environment, a B.S. in Oceanography, and a B.A. in Finnish, which she has used surprisingly often. When she is not at work, she’s most likely reading a novel or hiking one of the Northwest’s beautiful trails.
