Back in the 80s I went to Roseburg Oregon Art fair. This guy painted very small like a castle or an angel using the agate to use them like clouds. I have never seen him again since whenever I was in Roseburg. I lost the necklace in the late 80s. I would live be to find someone using it like you but painted using g the cloudy agate. Beautiful work.

Dang, Theo, your fingers look even worse than mine! I love how dimensional Montana agates are - so beautiful, inside and out.
@TheoKellison2 жыл бұрын
I know!🤣 my fingers go through the ringer🤣 its actually not from the cabbing though, i cut i a bunch of iris agates and they all needed to get thinned down on the flat lap😅 i still havent found a way to keep my finger tips safe when youre grinding a small slab down to 3mm thickness🤣 the first side is always fine but then the problems come every time you have to flip the slab and grind the other face😅 and totally agree! Gotta love those montanies!😁 i can work with those things all day long!
@KatyDidRocks2 жыл бұрын
@@TheoKellison could you use a dop stick with your flat lap?
@TheoKellison2 жыл бұрын
@@KatyDidRocks I definitely can with the cabs! But the problem with the iris slabs is i have to work both faces so i end up having to switch sides so much it may be tricky with a dop🤔 i guess i could do one side all the way up, take it off the dop, switch sides, and then work the other face all the way up🤔 im gonna have to try that!

WOW , Theo those are beautifully done my friend. I found a blue waterline agate last summer that was shaped like a small pare split down the middle and I have only one side, and I understand how rare that color is. I've never found anything like what you have found. But I'm always hopeful. I was wondering , if you don't mind....i find you show the items way to fast and as i get to focus you're on to the next one, and trust me I fully understand the excitement involved. I'm like drooling when I find these. So if it's ok with you would you mind taking a little more time to show and tell . Thanks so much for showing us your works in progress. See you soon my friend. Cheers

* It's amazing that you are so willing to sacrifice so much agate to get a "Picture".. Only you could do that... Did you save the less dendritic parts for jewelry pendants?? Fave was 14:28 I see a lake with forest hills around it & sky over them. So Pretty.. Thanks for showing these..
@TheoKellison2 жыл бұрын
There is actually very little waste involved☺ the beauty of those scenic pockets is that they are usually only about 25% of the stone you want to cut so i do trim out the most ideal dendritic pockets for scenes but there is a looot of left over agate, i always save my cut offs and those will either be re-tumbled or used for cabbing down the line😄 and absolutely see the lake now that you mention it!! Thank you so much for watching!😄

Just came across this video today and subscribed!! I have a few pieces of those and now I know what they are called. Thanks for the video and everything in the video was my favs. The funny thing is I drilled one of the small pieces to make an earring and when I got to the design part, the top of the stone, it burnt the drill bit like burnt it. But later went back to it and it drilled just fine. The ones I have all got tree designs in them.
