I have about 60 hrs on a new kx40 and making slow progress as an operator and definitely still learning about the machine as well. Mainly using it for clearing overgrown pastures, wood cutting, etc., so the thumb is used a lot. I heard you mention retracting the thumb by curling the bucket and I hoped you could say more about that event, re is it harmful to the cylinder, etc. At first I had this happen inadvertently a few times and once oil spewed from the thumb cylinder. which I thought came through the seals but I did find a loose hose fitting that didn't get tightened when the dealer installed the thumb. When I was tightening the fittings I noticed that the thumb is connected to larger of the two hydraulic lines, making the control for the thumb on the left joy stick. I believe this to be in error and the dealer said to bring it in and they would change it, but that is 100 miles away. If it is not hurting anything I would put it off. What is your thoughts on that? Thanks for the education you are providing for those of us starting out!

I think it is hard on the thumb to push it back with the bucket, that is why I retract the thumb while chasing it with the bucket. Yes your thumb controls should be on the right joystick, and on the small lines. But it shouldn't hurt it unless they have the relief valve pressure set too high. Hop I answered your questions. Thank you, and have a wonderful evening 😀

Do you ever burn on site for your customers? Or do you consider it a liability for your operation?

Yes, I burn when congratulations are right. This customer wanted to do the burning himself. I actually enjoy burning. Thanks for watching, and have a wonderful evening 😀
