​@@vic5015True, it isn't intended for the independent operation that runabouts were. But, otherwise, it is closer to the scale and capabilities of a runabout than a shuttle. Which was the very idea.

According to the novel Over a Torrent Sea, the Delta Flyer-type shuttle were called the Flyer-class. The USS Titan also had at least one such shuttle, the Horne.

@@vic5015Across the entire series there were about 10 shuttles destroyed in some way, its standard complement was about 5 so it’s clear they just rebuilt any they lost. Weeks and months pass between each episode so more than enough time to build stuff!

Industrial replicators can knock out a type 2 in a day. They are ikea shuttles. That was always my head canon. The Flyer, runabouts etc are not ikea.

I like the Delta Flyer better than the design of the Defiant on Deep Space Nine (however the Defiant is much bigger). The Delta Flyer is a more stylish ship.
