I got this backpack for a 50-ish km trek up Croatia's highest mountain this October. It is extremely well built, had it packed out but it rode so nicely on my back. However, it turned out to be too small for my needs and now I'm already selling it - totally my mistake, it is a wonderful piece of kit! Props to Mammut, everyone on the verge of getting it I hope my experience pushes you over the edge and you decide to get it.

Great and detailed review. I’ve had this exact pack for 3 years and use it almost every day when walking the dog to hiking in all weathers. It’s brilliant and the spine system is a game changer as is all the straps to alter the fit and to compress and keep the load stable. Only issue I have is it creaking now which does annoy me. Still nice sure how to stop and I have tried lubricating the pivots on the spine system.
@trekitt

Glad you're enjoying it, apart from the creaking! Might be worth dropping Mammut Customer Service an email as they might have some helpful advice on alleviating the creak. it's not something that we've heard back as feedback before about the Spine, but hopefully its an easy fix so you can continue enjoying your pack.

Outstanding,couldn’t be happier.Comes with me on all my hikes,rattling through the Wainwrights the past 2 years and just last weekend did the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge trekking 25 miles 10 hours climbing 5400ft and the pack was solid and comfortable as always at all times with no niggles or rubbing. When or if it ever gives up on me I will be grabbing another but it looks like I’ve got plenty more years and miles of hiking left in it as apart from being a little dirty it’s as good as new.👍🏼

After your review I REALLY want this backpack but I need to understand if there are any substantial differences because otherwise I buy the men's model because I prefer the colors

Hi, The only difference between the two packs is the fit and shape is specific for men vs women. The back length on the women's model is shorter, and the shoulder straps have a slightly different shape to complement a women's fit. Thanks, Trekitt.

Great review! I have read a few reviews where people complained of the harness breaking at the thinnest point at the centre, effectively rendering the backpack useless. A few also stated that due to the constant spine movement at the joint, the harness starts producing a squeaky sound with time. Have you faced any such issues over time? If not, can you visualise these being common, possible issues or do you think the harness system is sturdy and these are probably just one off cases?

How well would this bag work for photographers? Could you fit a smallish tripod on the bottom / back? I saw another vid on KZbin by a photographer using the Trion Spine as a camera bag. It looked great, but the Trion doesn't have the side pockets and light weight of the Ducan.
@trekitt
@trekitt 2 жыл бұрын
You could fit a tripod in the side bottle pocket, but every time you need to open the pack from the top, it would flop over. Personally, I'd opt for the Fjallraven Abisko Friluft (either 35 or 45). It's what I use and it's a flawless camera bag. Harry

@trekitt
@trekitt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon, the Ducan is a great pack. I am also 190cm tall, but have a torso length of 47cm and the Ducan is just a tad too long for me. I would suggest that with a torso length of 50cm that you'd be OK. Thanks for watching. Paul.

Non-adjustable back length is where you lost me. Have you considered having Aarn packs? Really good back systems (adjustable) and u-flow straps - used under licence by Black Diamond. @@wouterrombouts9347 Unfortunately there isn't necessarily a best, it's largely based on personal preference. For example, I get along really well with Osprey's Stratos as the backsystem fits me well and will accommodate my camera gear as well, however others here at Trekitt would prefer something like Lowe Alpine's Aeon which is lighter and more packable as they may use it for a little running on the weekends.
