You're a braver man than me mate! I prefer a little more space, and that pole would probably have me in tears! Great weight though, be cool to see how you get on with it.

Brave or stupid? 😂 I'll be trying the offset pole position to see how I get on with that, but I'm not sure this one is a keeper mate. Great weight, but it's not very practical. I'll see how I get on with it for a bit first.

Looks cool not many options for a tent like this. I use something similar called the echo 2 from hyperlite but its not produced anymore. Mountain Laurel design has some nice double walled shelters
@trickofthetrail6 ай бұрын
Hey mate, not heard of the Echo 2, but yeah MLD do some great double walled shelters. Just a shame they are quite expensive to ship over to this part of the world. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

Great review mate, looks like a cool tent for some long distance treks when weight is an issue. Very minimal through but 500g is amazing
@trickofthetrail6 ай бұрын
Thanks mate. It's an interesting one. Not sure if it's one I'll keep, but I'll defo put it through its paces in the coming months. For long distances it might be ideal. Time will tell.

Nearly bought one of these, except for 2 things which would drive me crazy; The central pole and the reach to the zipper to close the tent when you're inside. Great review tho' thanks.
@trickofthetrail5 ай бұрын
Thanks Phil. The zipper isn't so much of a problem for me, especially when you offset the pole the and the guy line. This makes the pole issue less of an annoyance, but it does make the tent less stable in winds. By no means is it the perfect tent and I will probably not be keeping it long term. It's well made though.

Quite tempted by one of these, but I'm not too keen on carrying an extra pole to A frame it. Interested to know how you get on with the offset setup.
@trickofthetrail6 ай бұрын
From what I understand from Trekkertent, it's not possible to A Frame the 1.5 version with standard trekking poles. It's a bit too big. I be trying the offset pole setup on my next camp, so I'll update on that video as to how I get on with it.
@frankexchangeofviews6 ай бұрын
I think you could probably make it work with a bit of DIY and keeping the poles inside, but yeah it's not ideal. I'd probably go with the 1 over the 1.5 to save a bit of weight, what I have in mind is dropping the inner mesh down while I'm sat up cooking etc, then hooking it back up to sleep. I think it should be enough room if the weather is good as long as the pole works off centre. I wondered about using the outside ring for an extra guy line to help stabilise it if the pole is offset?
@trickofthetrail6 ай бұрын
@@frankexchangeofviews Yeah I think there are ways you could maybe make the A-Frame setup work. Good point about dropping the inner mesh at the front. That certainly would give more space to work with for cooking etc. With the offset pole, I think you could use the outside ring to add an extra guy and that's something I'll have a play around with. You could also add a second guy on the inside of the vestibule and so have one either side (A-Frame style). I might see how that works next time also.

What is you experience with BA Zoom UL? Particularly about R value
@trickofthetrail6 ай бұрын
Really comfy. The comfiest pad I have for sure. However the R Value isn't accurate. I wouldn't take it below 5 degrees, and even then I think that's borderline. I was perfectly warm on it on this trip, the temps dropped to around 8 degrees, but if the ground is really cold, I would look elsewhere. I use it as my warmer months pad and the Nemo Tensor Extreme for winter. Hope that helps.

We're calling it a tent but it's basically a tarp. I love trekking pole tents, but I don't know why you would go for this over the Durston XMid or Gossemer, as you get much more space, don't have issue with pole being in way, lots of ventilation, and weighs about the same
@trickofthetrail6 ай бұрын
Yeah, I'm not sure I'll keep hold of it yet. As mentioned in the video, the main reason I got it was because of the optional solid inner. I had the Z-Packs Duplex before this, but didn't enjoy taking it out in cold weather and it would be the same for the X-Mid Pro, so that's the reason I thought I'd give this a try. Time will tell if I decide to keep it or if the lack of space is a real problem for me. It's always fun to try something new though. Thanks for watching and commenting mate, I appreciate it.
@MonsyGo6 ай бұрын
Absolutely. Great overview mate, it's design is different. Always good to try out UK custom made products. What temperature / weather conditions would you use it for?
@trickofthetrail6 ай бұрын
@@MonsyGo Thanks mate. Agreed, it's nice to give British brands some love as we don't have many, especially on the DCF tent category. With the solid inner, I would potentially be taking it down to around freezing or even slightly lower. I tend to do trails such as the West Highland Way around end of April and it can still get bloody cold at night then. My hope is that the solid inner will keep me a little more snug. 🤷♂

I had a golite Shangri-la 1. Basically the same, but silnylon. I made a triangular A frame for the front end (2 poles with guy line across the bottom) made a huge difference to usability.
@trickofthetrail6 ай бұрын
I've just checked out the Shangri-la 1, had not heard of it before. It's almost identical isn't it? Trekkertent do have a 1 person version of this tent, which is capable of an A-Frame setup. Unfortunately it's not possible with the 1.5 because it's too big. I have tried, but the trekking poles are too short and Marc from Trekkertent confirms it's not possible. Thanks for watching and commenting mate.
@steviecoles15326 ай бұрын
@@trickofthetrail I made my A frame from tent pole sections, just off ebay. I'm pretty sure you could do the same. Still use 1 trekking pole for the rear, and then the spare to tension a side panel if its windy maybe? I would say it's worth a look if you intend to keep it as its a huge improvement to the front of the tent. Sod the extra weight, it pays off in liveability!
@trickofthetrail6 ай бұрын
@@steviecoles1532 Thanks Stevie, that's a great tip. I'm still playing around with it, so will look into that and might give it ago. Offsetting the pole and guy-line does seem to help a little, although I haven't tried this on an actual camp yet.

@@richardjennings2708 You're the second person on this video mention the Golite Shangri-La range. Stevie mentioned the 1 person version, which funnily enough is pretty much identical to this tent. The Shangri-La 3 looks great. I am actually on the verge of buying a pyramid style tent myself.
