To clarify, camels are not Australian native animals. They were introduced around 1840 and as they are well-suited to our climate, they flourish. They are a pest and cause damage to infrastructure, destabilise sand dunes and compete for the food of our native animals (and people).

The Ghan has an average cruising speed of 85km/h (53 miles) and 115km/h top speed (72 miles). A lot of people think this is just some train trip you zoom across from one end to the other - as there is 0 traffic this would take them 26 hours if they did it at top speed straight, and 35 if they cruised at the average speed - so it goes to show over the 96 hours or 4 days they really do make it worth while and a true experience and holiday not just a glorified train ticket.
