Chris here, thanks for the video guys! 1. The big window is the Two-Forward, I've actually put a bar in there. 2. All the Windows are the same height (actual floor height). They look so big because the lower side of the saucer section is very angled

Chris Struber I hope you don't take any criticism personally. When people point out the one or two things they don't like it's assumed but rarely said that that means that they actually LIKED the 98% of the ship that they don't talk about
@dadrian7 жыл бұрын
steven heckert thank you but don't worry, as I said, this is still an unfinished model and I love to hear the feedback so I can further improve my ship.
@MrSheckstr7 жыл бұрын
Chris Struber so as far as the window goes (and acknowledging you clearly stated its on deck two) This is just my opinion but I think it has some of the wisdom of Solomon to it 1 there is no reason a starship can't have Windows on the bridge 2 past a certain size (I'm saying three decks) there is little legitimate reason for having a forward facing window on the bridge THUS 3 if you want of forward facing window on the bridge of your ship you should put the extra effort into your design to have armored panels on the exterior hull to cover those windows (and possibly internal panels or screens as well) I feel this is a reasonable compromise between safety and security on one hand and the occasional desire or theoretical need to be able to see out without external visual aids
@MrSheckstr7 жыл бұрын
As far as "Two forward " being a bar might I offer a suggestion? Make that instead a conference room/ Captains mess and put your large social gathering place on the underside of the saucer, since you have such a large numbers of Windows there it looks like that is where you put the majority of your crew cabins anyways. That way a rousing round of "steady boy steady" doesn't disturb gamma watch on the bridge.

This is friggin awesome. Really brings together evolutionary changes. The saucer seperation and secondary warp core are the icing on the cake. Definately looks like something built between the end of movie era and the Enterprise C. wanna see this in TV and/or movies!

I like the design. The Federation elements have a fresh and creative look that feels very fitting. The ship feels very appropriate as a Lost Era ship and I'm intrigued with it being a deep space explorer after Star Trek VI. From the description, I see this design as the first test of what would become deep space, multi-year, autonomous, self-reliant, and extremely capable explorer that the Galaxy Class would eventually fill. I also see it as the capable version than the "budget" Constellation Class (as I remember, Constellation Class would is contemporaneous and also be a deep space explorer). I also like the combined elements from different eras. I've never necessarily been a fan of the idea that every single ship off the factory line has brand spanking new parts and tech for every single part of the ship. There need to be some iterative steps and workhorses in the fleet. A few things I would change: - I'm intrigued with the Constitution style shuttle door but it would be nice to modify them slightly to not look exactly like a TOS Constitution style shuttle door. Do something to make it look like it's an updated version. - The proportion of the saucer impulse engines seem too big. If the impulse drive is so massive to need that large space then why the inclusion of two more teeny-tiny ones in the pylons? I think it would fix the design to make the saucer impulse ones smaller or give them a different shape. I get that the saucer may need some massive engine power when separated from the engineering hull but something just seems off. - I did a spot check against an Ambassador and Excelsior sizes and it seems to be on par with the Ambassador, which seems really large for the era. It doesn't look like it has the same internal volume as an Ambassador but something about the saucer proportions seems too big. It would make more sense if the saucer was reduced in size by 15%. I don't see Starfleet building starships that rival an Ambassador in sheer spread at this point.

I like the idea of the nacelles not being connected to the secondary hull but it needs to have quad nacelles like the Stargazer. Engineering would have to be in the dorsal though which means that the secondary hull would have more room for cargo and hangar space.

There's kind of a "testbed" feel to it... kind of like "we're on our way to Ambassador" feel. Maybe a little counterproductive to put a secondary navigational deflector near the warp engine ramscoops, though. Of course, it could be powered down during times when they're taking in interstellar hydrogen. But again, it'd be better elsewhere, like the front of the saucer.

Given the time period suggested, I think it makes total sense. Remove the secondary hull, turn the nacelles on there side and add two more nacelles down from the ones on the ship and instant USS Stargazer predecessor. For sure the windows on the hull look a little exaggerated, but overall a very well executed design overall. :-) On the docking clamps, I did some thinking, and I figure the saucer might have some large clamps that one can't see where it inserts into the neck.

I think this fits in very well as an early evolution of what is later seen with the Enterprise-C. I think I would have just had the secondary hull separate, I really like that better than the saucer section itself, it just doesn't look right without the saucer! But it still looks great without the secondary there. No reason you couldn't have a backup warp core in the saucer or even in that bit between the nacell's. On the bridge you can see where the window would be, there is a bit of recess there which to me would mean the bridge has a window, but has a blind that comes down over the window, which I think makes a lot of sense. I like the idea of a mess hall deck right under the bridge so that it doesn't take the officers there as long to get back to their post under an emergency.

Actually the windows on the bottom of the saucer do work since the actual room is recessed back from the window. We've seen this in tng. 6:12 The nacelles certainly feel very advanced. I like this, however, I have a critique on the lighting, shading, texturing. Most of these have too little contrast on the light versus shade of the model. The part at the top looks like it could possibly detach to become a warp shuttle. That however would leave the main part lacking in warp capability and as such it would make more sense for the engineering section to also have a couple of warp nacels. This would suggest to me a military ship with a detachable long range scout craft. That would suit the movie era technology looking at the warp shuttle that transferred Spock to the Enterprise in The Motion Picture.
@mulitball7 жыл бұрын
Overall love it. One design element I might change is "2 Forward". The size of those windows is huge and obviously no armor. If the shields fail, one decently placed torpedo shot through the windows will detonate inside the core of the saucer section. Would blow out the bridge above it, as well as major damage to Deck 3 which is likely where the top of the main computer core is. Even if the bridge crew survived the detonation, they'd be cut off from the rest of the ship. Ouch. It's very ST design to have your bridge exposed, so in this respect the design is very consistent with ST norms. Again, absolutely terrific design.

overall, i am most definately a fan of this design. even in its current iteration, i would happily fly the crap outta this in STO. i'd like to state my peeves, as there are only a few. - the main impulse engines could be draw closer together, perhaps, so that the wash trails cleanly under the struts. their width also seems a tad excessive. - the tertiary hull's impulse engines might do with a little squaring up/reshaping. - you could halve the total number of windows presented and i'd still likely think there are too many, on the neck especially. it is an exploratory vessel, not a sight seeing cruiseliner. - the large window spanning the deck beneath the bridge, consider something along the lines of an observation level ala the Odyssey class ship bridges found in STO. the idea of a ship's lounge located directly under the bridge on a ship this size doesn't feel like a logical placement to me. - perhaps slightly altering the secondary hull's shape so as not to directly mirror a Constitution's secondary hull, but this would be grasping at the tiniest bits of complaint. everything else i can approvingly nod towards with an added "damn fine job". that's right, i don't even mind it lacking a rear torpedo system.

With that window being so large perhaps it would need an armoured cover to raise up during red alert. Perhaps the phaser strips would look nicer pushed out to the sides so they are just clear of the lettering - then they'd allow 2 to have an easy firing arc both forwards and to the sides. Likewise the side ones could do with being pushed back a little bit - I realise why they are where they are to match the side decorative cage style black bars - but perhaps a design balance can be achieved with some extra thrusters on the back 3rd of the of saucer sides. i don't dislike the way they balance as is with the impulse crystals - but I just think they distract from the ships name & number a bit. Other than that the only tiny complaint I have is the Nacelles are a bit plain in terms of surface detail. I Like it though very much it fits in well with the same sort of thinking that led to the Ambassador Class being built. It looks like the sort of ship that would have been very useful when Picard was starting his career.

1st I would like to say that the ship is a very nice design. However that being said, I do see a few places that he could have fixed. Note that this is just my opinion.1. The size difference between the Windows and the shuttlebay. The windows say Enterprise D, while the shuttlebay says Enterprise A. 2. The impulse engines are a little too big. Have them shortened and on the outside, make a little extra saucer stick out, so that they will face straight back. 3. At the end of the warp nacelles, have them glowing blue. Other than those, it's a very good looking ship.

We have the K-7 Space Station, the USS Antares (freighter) in the remastered version okay this looks kinda blocky too but has TOs style nacelles, hm.. technically the USS Kelvin predates TOS and would supposed to be prime? So, yeah. feels out ofplace, similar to how the ENT-D felt out of place after/during the TMP period. And then again in the TMP period we see nothing similar to the Discovery either. the closest it would be would be kitbashs from alien ships or the Pre warp 5 delta flyer thing. Hm, maybe it's their fetish with Deltas that the ship even looks kinda similar to one? O.o

I've got a bit of a problem with the registry number of 2073( but then again I've got a problem with the sloppy way registry numbers have been used in all things declared canon) It was assumed or presumed starship classes were assigned a bracket of registration numbers of 100( i.e. Constitution classes registry numbers were from 1700-1799) with the prototype of that class being the 00 of that block. And the only exception to that are for ships named for a predecessor (like the Enterprise) which kept the original registry number but added letter after it (it is my Assertion that even in those cases such legacy ships still are assigned a registry number relevant to its class thus the Enterprise A has secondary registry number of 17??, the enterprise B has a secondary registry of 20?? And the C,D,&E have a secondary registry relevant to their class of vessel) Thus the registry of the USS Clark would have to have a registry number in the 2100s at least
@dadrian7 жыл бұрын

Chris Struber don't worry too much about it... there is no canonic rule.... and lazy writers and special effects artist have already violated the unwritten rule enough that any other aberration shouldn't matter if it's a number you like, go for it... and who know Maybe every century of numbers (or couple of centuries) can be said to represent an entire period of starfleet productions. After all if the plan was for there only to be a couple of dozen of any particular class of starship, there is little point in reserving and entire 100 block of numbers for each class. For all we know the entire 2000 series is meant for 4-5 classes of starships with the prototype of each class being 00,20,40,60,80? I believe in coming up with way to be as inclusive as possible rather than find silly excuses to exclude anything I don't like. Fair enough?

Also, have you done an episode where you describe what your ultimate, customized, unique dream starship would look like?

Thomas Sesko the only problem with a top ten disliked class of ship is that it's basically an episode that is all about negativity. There is so much negativity and bickering in the Star Trek extended family as it is that a episode devoted to least favorite would just explode all that negativity.

Thomas Sesko and from what I would gather captain foley's fantasy ship is a TOS era three nacelle dreadnought .... No idea what the commander's favorite whip is
