You kept mentioning that the Raven is "from the Voyager era" and "newer than the Galaxy class", such as while commenting on the placement of the impulse engines at the rear. Actually, I am certain it is OLDER than the Galaxy class. If you go back and watch the Voyager episode where they actually show the Hansons doing their research on the Borg, they keep giving stardates that take place several years before the start of TNG (For example, Stardate 32623.5 according to the wiki). So, it predates the Galaxy class by at least 8-9 years if you follow the typical as-seen-on-tv Trek logic of the thousands digit in a stardate rolling over every year. Plus, there's no knowing how old the Raven already was when the Hansons took it for their mission. At least we can put an approximate upper limit on how old the Raven is, since the computer panels all have the "modern LCARS" interface and not the older one as seen on the Enterprise-C. This means that the Raven was AT MOST approximately 20 years older than the Enterprise-D...assuming oldest-case-scenario that the switch to "modern LCARS" happened around the same time the Enterprise-C was destroyed. Of course, without knowing when the switch to the modern LCARS happened, this can still be tough to pin down more precisely, and admittedly an age range of 8-20 years as of the launch of the Enterprise-D is quite massive. For convenience sake, I like to imagine the Raven as being ~15 years older than the Enterprise-D, but of course YMMV on this assessment.

@@thethirdchimpanzee Misplaced blame on Voyager and Enterprise. Voyager's "Dark Frontier" with the Hanson's following rumors of the Borg was a logical consequence from the events in Star Trek: Generations depicting the Enterprise B's rescue of the El-Aurians from the Nexus. A later scene where Crusher provides Soran's background implies Starfleet learned of the Borg from the El-Aurian refugees.

All I recall is that the scale of the ship changed between its 1st & later appearances; & that the history book (sold with my Trek collection when I moved, so drawing a blank on the name of the book that listed episodes, movies, & stated events in a timeline!) stated that when the Raven left on its mission, it was following rumors, so obviously almost nothing was known about the Borg! And because it was a civilian ship, it's unlikely it would have received Starfleet tactical updates (after Q introduced Picard to the Borg), before being swept up by the transwarp corridor & dumped in the Delta Quadrant.

I think the fan-made MSD is pretty accurate, though I think the warp core is in the wrong place. There are some greeblies on the dorsal surface, just behind the aft edge of the struts, that could be part of the warp core, fueling ports, ejection hatch, etc. But I agree with Stuart that the warp core should probably be horizontal, housed in the aft superstructure, like the Danube class runabout.

Deckplan that briefly appears in the show it has 4/5 decks and small shuttlepod and looks like it could comfortably accommodate around 12 people in a passenger configuration with large communal spaces/storage. I think its primary design is a light freighter/long distance small civilian passenger ship (with the internals configured in to cargo bays or passenger cabins) and the family just refitted it as a science ship with small living area and lots of storage and science equipment. The corrugated bit on the rear that goes all the way around is the small shuttle bay with a cargo bay below. Liklihood is they scaled it as they wanted to appear but cannabalised runabout model to speed cgi production time hence the out of scale windows.

I agree that this thing's default scale is probably too large. It would be interesting to see it rescaled to match its door with the runabout door. I also can't shake the feeling that the Nova's default scale is too small - I know it's supposed to be tiny, but it seems ludicrously small.
@Riceball017 жыл бұрын

A "little bit" larger than the shuttle given to Scotty? It has FOUR decks and an aft hanger more than large enough to hold that shuttle. It was designed for civilian scientific research. I always loved this ship design, looks boxy from a functional design rather than aesthetic, I see it as a modular ship so you can swap sections out to be mission specific the whole front section (I see front section being a crew and command module, an extra crew section on top, and the main body of the ship being swappable science or cargo modules) the bays from underneath even the whole engine nacelle assembly. And I love how it looks very runabout era, builds on that design principle, but somehow also looks to fill a missing gap in the Defiant class design. I think their scaling is wrong just looking at the size of windows when it's next to voyager.

I would like it even more in a Star Trek first contact anti borg style appearance or refit (poetic justic for the Hansen’s) they could even have seven of nine make it more efficient and armed to add salt to borg wounds it delivers;)
@gmon787 жыл бұрын
I've always had an issue with referring to the Nacelles as 'warp engines'. To me, a ship has one warp engine; the warp core. To use a car analogy, I think of the warp core as the engine; provides power, and the nacelles as the wheels; puts the power down on the road. Samuel, if by chance you're reading this I'd love to hear your opinion on that.
@DrewLSsix7 жыл бұрын
gmon78. Warp core is just a power plant, the engines convert the power to propulsion. Nacelles are what houses engines btw, the nacelles on a ww2 bomber dont do anything but mount and house the engines.
@gmon787 жыл бұрын
DrewLSsix - An engine IS a power plant. In a car, the engine produces the power and sends it to the wheels where that power is converted into forward momentum by way of circular motion. Same for a Starship. The core produces the power and sends it to the nacelles where that power is converted into forward momentum by way of creating a warp bubble. The Nacelles aren't producing the power, they are using it. That is where the distinction occurs.The 'engine' is where the power originates, therefore the warp core is the engine and the nacelles are the wheels. I totally understand that the engine pods on a plane are called nacelles, but i don't think that analogy works because the power plant, the 'engine' that is actually producing the power is inside the nacelle on a plane, not located elsewhere. This is not the case on a starship. I honestly think my car analogy is more accurate.
@DrewLSsix7 жыл бұрын
gmon78. Relating the field coils to tires is still inaccurate, pragmatically the warp core and the warp coils are both parts pf the same machine. Both combined are the warp engine. The analogy further doesnt work because the warp core doesnt function like the engine in a car, it functions more like the refinery that creates the fuel for the engine in the car.
@gmon787 жыл бұрын
DrewLSsix I would argue that the fuel is actually the matter/antimatter that the core uses to create the warp plasma, the 'power' that is then channelled to the nacelles. You could just as easily say that the engine, drive shaft, differentials, wheels etc on a car are all just parts of one machine too.
@90lancaster7 жыл бұрын
There has been some suggestions (not often but sometimes) that a ship was (at once stage in the law of the show) able to go to warp under battery power. I can see the logic of that if you think of the idea that the plasma grid used for power for all ships systems can be fed from the impulse engines. Speaking of which I think I recall seeing them being a single unit and also a separate engine and a separate Impulse reactor too. But if one goes back to the Romulan war era in FASA those ships had warp speed and only had fusion drives... there is also a suggestion that Cochrane's Phoenix is fusion powered too. So if Fusion can power a warp Drive at low speeds then it begs the question - why do you need a warp core to propel a saucer to low warp at all ?

It's interesting to speculate how big it would be if one assumed the door was the same height as a Runabout door. I also have to wonder if the unusual logo might be an ESPA logo ? Or if not that might it be the Manufacturer so the logo might be the spacecraft equivalent of a VW badge. I think Stewart is on the Money I think it's 3 decks including the Bridge. But it's certainly interesting to consider it as a larger craft and perhaps have 3 shuttle craft in the rear of the middle hull. But in story terms what kinda loon would park their main ship with their 8 year old daughter and wife on it right next to a Borg Cube if they could sensor cloak a shuttle instead. Not to mention if the wife had come on the mission too - and his sensor dampener failed she could have just hugged him and cloaked them both and then called for a beam out. Though perhaps the smartest place to hide would have been on the cubes hull. and then when they start to power up the Transwarp just drop off with no power to anything except the sensor baffles and minimal life support. Han Solo style.

By the windows alone, there can't be more than four decks, and that's pushing it. That makes it 1/4 the height of Voyager, not 1/2 as pictured. The rest of the ship following that scale would make for a much smaller vessel. Voyager is as big as a small village, and that upscaled Raven is a significant portion of that - you don't give a ship of that size a crew of two. But judging by the Equinox episodes, Voyager's writers weren't that good at maths.

Isn't it sill a Federation ship? I mean would you not call an Andorian or Vulcan ship a Federation ship? I men a civilian ship registered in the US would still be called us ship or I'm mistaken?starfleet is somewhat like a navy and the federation is the Nation.

Frank Forsthövel. Its a federation ship the same way your car is a car of whatever country you live in. My Mazda is a car of America.... even built here!
