The Romulan ships from FASA are so beautiful. FASA really got the look "Theory" of the Romulan ships down to a T.

Monster Hobbies High River AB 2 years ago I strongly agree. Also some of the Romulan and Klingon FASA ships for example, like the Romulan V-2 "Hunter" class Cruiser, the fan favorite Romulan V-30 Winged Defender class Cruiser, Romulan Vengeance class, Romulan Heavy Defender, the Romulan V-7 "Whitewind" class Cruiser, the Klingon K-17 "Death Stalker" Scout/Cruiser, Klingon D-2 "Stingtongue" Destroyer (also called a Ravenous class Battleship in both Star Trek: Legacy and Star Trek: Armada), D-14 "Stinger" class Destroyer, and also Klingon D-20 "Death Rite" class Cruiser (featured in both Star Trek: Legacy and Star Trek: Armada) have been shown in A LOT of amazing video games and computers games like Star Trek: Legacy and Star Trek: Armada video game franchise.

First off, I discovered this channel a week ago and can only say I wish it had been sooner. You are a Trekkies' dream come true. I've never liked the direction Romulan ship design took in TNG et al. & have always preferred FASA's take on the matter. And I have to say, my asthetic is totally different from. The only similarity between my top 5 FASA Romulan ships and Stuart's is the V-30, which is my #1. Samuel & I appear to have somewhat similar tastes, matching 3 out of 5, but his reasons were different from mine. #5 - Z-1 battleship #4 - V-8/V-9 cruisers (the original warbird from TOS & its upgrade, which like TOS Enterprise vs. Movies Enterprise, retained the basic design but upgraded systems) #3 - V-7 cruiser #2 - T-10 destroyer (it shows a clear influence from Klingon ships like the D-7 like the forward boom but retains a uniquely Romulan look) #1 - V-30 And my honorable mention goes to the V-6 cruiser, which retains the general outline of the warbird but has always looked a little clunkier IMO.

I always got the sense that the Romulans used that sort of a saucer hull and having more of a 'bulk with wings' design so they could fit on more bird imagery as well as for a pragmatic approach to distributing space on their ships. However, they started to move away from the saucer design in favor of more bird-like ships out of resentment towards the Federation. Great list and I enjoyed it greatly. Save for the fact that FASA was the company that made the game, opposed to just the name for the system itself.

Now that's nice... episode as my birthday gift. EDIT: And a Monitor can be a system defense ship (Great Defender) or a planetary assault support ship.

Nice lists. I was always a fan of the Gallant wing. The Bird of Prey from "Balance of Terror" was a small ship testing a new weapon. The Gallant wing always looked, to me, like an actual war ship in the Romulan fleet using that esthetic.

I have to dig out my copy of the Romulan manual to be sure, but in FASA universe Monitors are ships with good weapons and shields but with limited warp capabilities and crew facilities to enable to achieve the maximum offensive and defensive capability in as small a hull as possible for the mobile system defence role. The FASA fleets also had tugs, mobile repair bases and accommodation barges to move such vessels between systems and to support them.

Mounters are short range heavily armed and armored defensive line ships, IRL they are used to defend ports and coastlines, if they have operational duration they lack deep seaworthiness. in fact almost all lack deep seaworthiness.

Monitors are previously and currently "Brown water" class vessels. designed to patrol close to the coast and rivers. So the Monitors in Star Trek are likely primarily in system "monitors" keeping tabs on the vessels within the system. Security vessels primarily.

Are you guys planning to do a version of the Klingon version of the NASA ships as they too appeared in a separate recognition manual? I missed my opportunity to acquire as much of the source reference material as I had wanted. I always found it interesting that on a few of the ships there would be descriptions of battles and the specifics of what each ships role was. The U.S.S. Chandley for example was a marine lander if I'm not mistaken. Also, although I haven't heard you guys speak of it in the FASA game it wasn't unheard of to board and take enemies ships, and repainted them with the colors and insignia of the victor. The red ship I believe is a nod to JJ Abrams painting one of the starfleet ships red. As something similar occurred within the FASA Universe. There may also have been a book produced on the minor races such as the horn, Orion's, and possibly one more. My Next Generation source book by FASA that began printing designs for next gen ships also had potential, yet most were just plain ugly, in my opinion with the exclusion of the M'Benga hospital ship. Want more information I can mail the books to you for possible scanning, I'd just want them returned splitting the cost of shipping.

**Crosses arms and turns away from Captain Foley** Im not sure what the Romulan equivalent would be, but you get the idea. The monitor does not have warp engines, it is pure sublight, monitors are in system defendors only. They are towed to a system. What is listed as warp engines are RSLA, which stands for Romulan Sub Light Arrays . The v-7 also has shadows of the future mogai/valdore class from tng. Commander Cockings list shows that he soars under the raptors wings.

You guys keep mentioning 'full episodes', is that something still to be done or are they on a separate page?

Monitor were heavily armed and armored but slow ships. They were used for defense and not really good in the open sea. So you would park this near a station or planet to defend it.

The monitor looks like a variant of the BOP. That saucer section is the same
@douglasglenn43513 жыл бұрын
You mention several times that certain Romulan designs look like Federation ships. That is consistent with TOS. In the script and Blish adaptation for Balance of Terror they note that the crew is taken aback by the BoP looking like a Federation design. They even thought the Romulans may have stolen the plans. John Payne took that a step further with the Peregrine class model he created.

Q-1 is a system defense boat so armed and actually not the best of ships. Command would have been a downgrade for a Romulan Captain seeking a rise in status and glory. J-8 is open in the middle, but it tows two cargo modules from the very back, as those are side-by-side mag links for cargo containers

Is it me, or does FASA seem to design 2 out of 3 really good drawing views, but that 3rd view usually doesn't fit with the rest of the other 3 views?
@donaldhill38237 жыл бұрын
OK, I see the connection between the FASA Romulan Winged Defender and the Klingon Bird of prey but the designs are still too different to show a direct connection. Again Paint jobs do not count. Capt Fooleys 3 does show its connection to TNG Romulan ships. So does the Commanders 4------------If FASA was using Naval terms then Monitor would indicate a small ship with a big gun that was not very maneuverable. Look up HMS M33 or HMS Marshal Soult for good examples from WW1.

It takes more than some green paint and a few feather decals to make a ship Romulan. Cmdr. Kruge and his crew made the Bird of Prey - Klingon.....not to mention hearing Sulu, in an almost panicked voice, say: "Klingon Bird of Prey!"...or did that commie sitting to his right say it? No, no, it was Sulu. Checkov was bracing himself against the torpedo, launched from a KLINGON Bird of Prey, about to find it's target on the U.S.S. Free Market?...U.S.S. Capitalist?...U.S.S. Better Dead Than Red? U.S.S. Socialists Suck? You know what ship I'm talking about.
