15-18 GT's are swappable from 15-16 GT350's for non-internal oil pump. 19-22 GT's must be swapped from 21-22 Mach 1's with additional wire mods and factory oil cooler assemblies.

I’d like to here from the Tremec expert. I have a big block 69 and have been considering the new TKX. I’d love a Magnum but don’t want to deal with fitment issues. Definitely don’t want to cut the tunnel

Yeah the TKX is so much more flexible for a resto-mod conversion given the shifter location options. The Magnum XL is not an easy fit unless you want to cut the tunnel.

Would the magnum xl swap benefit me in roll racing 1/3 and 1/2 mile? The stock gearing in the gt350 doesn't seem to translate well for speed. I'm no expert on the subject, I just know I want to get faster

I don't think it will have much benefit. Maybe a rear gear swap will help.

Beyond the lesser torque capacity the downside of the TR-3160 is the monstrous ratio jump from 5th to 6th gear. The overdrive on a T5 is useless--except for freeway cruising--for the same reason. The situation gets worse with an engine that doesn't make torque down low.

Would love to see further comparisons / discussions. To me, it seems like a 3160 would be more fun to drive with NA setup because of shorter gearing. T56 Magnum seems more suited for boost.

Using the long ratio version of the magnum is actually a bad comparison. The short ratio with the 2.66 first is much more comparable. Based on what I’ve seen, the short ratio magnum with a 4.10 rear gear in a GT is pretty much a perfect fit. The gear spacing of the MT82 isn’t terrible but it isn’t great either. The first gear being really low to help with starting from a full stop but it makes it practically useless for anything but that. And if you have PP package car with the 3.73, you could pretty much start in 2nd. The 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th in the MT82 is spaced a little long, and the 3rd to 4th is way too short. Based on my math, the 2.66 magnum with a 4.10 rear gear will feel like just a tad longer in first gear compared to a 2018+ mustang MT82D4 with a 3.55 rear gear when coming off of a dead stop, but the following gears will have much better spacing than the MT82. As far as drivability goes, I’m fine with first being a little longer

I just got an MT 82 car. Is this transmission as bad as the internet says it is? I want to do 500 NA horsepower, is this too much for the mt 82?

It depends on what year. I know some 18's have shift weak forks. (Even driving normally) I know later productions there was a TSB on them and they went with stronger forks. The weakest point besides those are the clutches. I have an rst clutch, mgw x spec short throw, mcleod steel clutch line, and my mt82 went. I had 3rd gear scratch when i bought it though.

No the my 82 can handle well over 700hp. You can’t bang the gears though. The my 82 shifts when it wants to and you should never force it. Just normal pressing force to massage it into the next gear. Sounds like it’s a POs but it can be smooth as long as you’re not donkey Kong.

I’d rather get the TR3160 transmission from the GT350 because that TR3160 was supposed to be in the Mustang GT and Mustang Bullitt
