Tremolo Shootout | Floyd Rose, Strandberg, & Ibanez Floating Bridges

In this video we'll discuss the difference between three popular tremolo's and my opinions on the different features of each bridge.
I'm using a Jackson Dinky DK3 equipped with a traditional Floyd Rose, a Strandberg Boden OS Original with a proprietary Strandberg bridge and an Ibanez J Custom RG7CST equipped with Ibanez's Lo Pro Edge tremolo. Also included are samples of my own playing demonstrating each one of these bridges.
The Jackson and Ibanez are both double locking systems and will be slightly more stable than the Strandberg system with only locks at the top and has a zero fret and traditional nut. If you really abuse the Strandberg it will go slightly out of tune.
The feel of the three systems is very different as well, the Jackson's Floyd being the least accurate for dipping down or pulling up to a specific note, the Ibanez somewhere in the middle and the Strandberg probably being the best. The Strandberg system also feels very different from the other units, being bouncier and lighter feeling.
All three units are fully floating so if you break a string your guitar will be horribly out of tune and you'll have to stop, change the string and fully retune.

Been debating back and forth for weeks now about getting a strandberg with a tremolo or fixed bridge... I'm new to using a tremolo system so thats why I have been hesitant. Great video.

Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! Which way are you leaning, fixed or tremolo? A tremolo is going to have more setup time ect because of the moving parts but if you change strings with the same gauge each time and just change them one at a time that can really make string changes go easier. Also, just remember there's gonna be a little bit of a learning curve with the tremolo so be patient and check out all the videos Strandberg has made about maintenance and tips. There's a lot of info out there that will really help. If you haven't already too, consider giving the channel a sub! For double locking, I love the Ibanez Edge bridge. One that surprised me is the Gotoh GE1996T. It's so smooth and fluttery. Also the ZR bridge with the ball bearings from Ibanez is extremely smooth and consistent with it's travel, however, there is a lot less flutter. For single locking, both the PRS and Gotoh 510 are amazing. The PRS would definitely be my favorite for expressive trem use. But for the trem fun, it's the Edge or GE1996T.

Hi Zach, thanks for watching! I def agree that the original edge is an amazing system, and I've actually got a PRS in for review now and I totally agree for expressive ideas. It's such a smooth tremolo system, but I've def have pretty extreme tuning problems with that guitar (it's only an SE) and the Angel Vivaldi signature Charvel I reviewed last summer had a Gotoh 510 on it and DAMN it wouldn't stay in tune. Both of those guitars didn't have locking tuners and I think the setup from the factory with the nut isn't very good but it's frustrating to buy a guitar that costs over a grand and have it be basically unusable. For single locking you really need to try the Vega Trem. It's unreal in terms of smoothness and stability. It's crazy accurate as well. It's by far the best non-locking trem I've ever played beating even the trem feel on my 2001 US PRS Custom 24.

Thanks for the video! Very well done and informative. I found a hack for the bushings on the Ibanez Edge. Take the bushings off, apply a slight bit of nail polish or plumber's tape(not too much), replace bushings, re-install the trem and you're tight as you want and good to go. I've been doing this for years. Sure beats trying to track down the over-priced bushings.

Been playing since the 80’s and am in the market for a guitar with a tremelo, I of course came up with Floyd’s on anything. I had tried others in the early 90’s, even had an Ibanez at one point, and wasn’t happy leaving the Floyd. After watching this, and seeing comments on the Ibanez, it sounds like it’s worth me checking out at the store. Thanks, quite helpful.

Thanks for watching! What was it about the Ibby system back in the day that you didn't like compared to the Floyd? Only advice I'd give is that on the cheaper models Ibanez doesn't equip the full on lo pro Edge tremolo unit, they've got a bunch of budget tremolo's they put in their guitars so be careful. If you're looking at pretty much anything lower than a Prestige it probably has the cheaper unit which for the most part stays in tune fine but doesn't flutter as well and def saps some of the tone out of the guitar. The Gotoh Floyd style has a push in with adjustment. You can also buy a push in arm with adjustment screw for Floyds. Love them.

Tip for if you’re at a gig and find the Ibanez bar is starting to come loose. Pull the bar out and put a bit of the plastic packaging from a set of strings over the hole and push the bar back in. Feels just like fresh bushings

I actually prefer the 'bouncy' quality of the Strandberg trems, but the reliability of the Ibanez unit is unmatched. I've had some tuning problems on the 'berg too when playing outdoors in high humidity too, not once with the Ibby's. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Ah gotcha! It's exciting to see Strandberg really grow and become more and more of well known brand. I like watching any new upstart show the big names in any business that there's another way to do things, and push brands like Ibanez to begin to innovate (like offering more and more guitars with stainless steel frets). The Strandberg system isn't perfect, and you might still prefer the Ibby one at the end of the day, but it does have a completely different feel. If you get a chance to just play one a local shop you might find you really like em. I hope you gt the chance sometime soon!

Awesome video dude! Any advice on Schaller Lockmeister? I bought a guitar with Floyd Rose Special and I'm obviously trying to change off that bridge because of tuning issues. I think the Original FR is a little too expensive and alot of people are recommending the Lockmeister... Do you think it's a solid reliable bridge in terms of staying in tune? Or should I save up a little longer and get an Original FR? Or should I swap to somehing completely different? Sorry for the long question, just losing my mind trying to figure out what to choose

Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately I've never played a Schaller Lockmeister but it looks like a pretty solid unit. I believe the lockmeister should be a good tonal upgrade although I'd surprised you're having tuning stability issues, even with the Floyd Rose Special trem. Most double locking systems I've reviewed, including more budget models have stayed in tune pretty well. It's the non-double locking systems on the budget guitars that I find to have massive tuning issues (looking at you Sterling by Music Man lol). Be sure to stretch out the strings and keep in mind while tuning that when you loosen or tighten different strings it effects all of them. Usually this means you've gotta keep it unlocked while first getting it stabilized and only lock it down after all the strings are in tune. I should prob make a video explaining how to get a Floyd in tune because it can be a little tricky. Hope that helps, good luck!

The play through on the Ibanez is modern, yet musically spaced. Unlike many recent posts where it is just noise. Nice job!! Also what did you do to that ibby, that's not the usual control layout.

The controls are pretty much stock too, this J Custom has the super rare piezo on it stock from the factory and all I did was have a tech move the volume knob to the tone knob spot and plug the body where there volume knob would have been. The guitar doesn't have a tone knob anymore but I never need it for what I use the guitar for so it doesn't bother me and it makes space for my picking hand. I also didn't want to drill the body and move the volume knob as this RG7CST is one of less than 15 guitars. The micro switch and round switch are just a part of the piezo controls. I've been beating on my Floyd Rose original on my 1989 Kramer Nightswan since 89, it's a solid performer and super reliable. I have another Kramer and a 96 Hamer Californian. As of about 2 years ago I've installed Fu-tone Brass big blocks on all of them and Titanium saddle blocks and saddle long screws. It definitely ups the reliably of the units and all stay in tune no problems at all. One thing I do about the tension on the tremolo arm is drop a stiff sping in the tremolo arm hole and tighten the arm down, problem solved lol. Works on all my Floyd Rose systems. @@aminorerror You can try a spring from a pen, but it doesn't hold shape very long and doesn't have the right tension. My other hobby is R/C cars, so I had some springs from those, any related hobby shop would be able to find something or obviously other items use some decent tension springs. Hope that works for ya !

Hi, how is the pull back range on your strandberg? I tried one and was suprised with the lack of pull-up range and how stiff it was compared to the non-locking gotoh on my Ibanez az.

It depends on the 'berg and it depends on how it's setup. Strandy's have two different tremolo post heights they can be setup on and the lower one restricts pull up pretty far. I've also played four different tremolo equipped models and some have felt a whole lot less stiff in general than others. At the end of the day they are still mass produced instruments and sometimes the tolerances can be tighter or looser IMO. Rock on!

Push fit arm is available from Floyd Rose. Alternatively, Red Bishop offer upgrade arms for both Edge or Floyd. These feature a push fit arm with a sparate tension adjusting collar. The Gotoh GE1996T is possibly the best of both worlds. It looks more like a Floyd and Gotoh make the Edge units for Ibanez. Screw fit arm for Herman Li 'leg drop' antics and a tension adjustable collar. Very reasonably priced. Great materials and Build Quality. Flutter for days. Recommended.

Havent tried the ibanez or strandberg, but been play Original Floyds for almost 40 yrs. Never a problem with them. I think Floyds are the best of the 3 options, but then again others will have their favorites. Its all good.

@@kevinstefanus9512 My 86 floyd is the chrome OFR. My early 2000s floyd is black. Got it from Warmoth. It too is an OFR. I know there 1000 series floyds, but dont know if they differ from the OFR. I opted to go with originals as they're many different versions, etc. and i didnt want a sub par floyd. With the 86 floyd, there was only the OFR so it was easy to decide.

@@kevinstefanus9512 yeah the original will fit in for the special. The Floyd special uses zinc which is a weaker metal. A lot of people have great luck with the Floyd Special. The Original is all hardened steel, so inherently lasts longer with no issues. Thats the route i took. I decided to get the best(my opinion) and be done with it.

Whereas it might not be a fully floating bridge, I grew upmplaying a Westone Spectrum LX (198mbk) & really never much used the whammy bar. The bendmaster tremelow held perfect tune from day one 1991-92 untill the day our house was stolen in 2013 along with everything we owned!

Can someone please help me find the easiest and most cost effective way to get a floating trem in a dean dimebag guitar with a hardtail bridge and the metal V shape over where the strings come through the body i think its called DBDT bc it says that in the access hole cover for the truss rod I have access to a machine shop if I need to route holes or pockets I’d prefer something like a Vega trem but if there is a similar option that’s cheaper or keeps me from having to route that would be nice

I just got a new Strandberg Prog 6 and man, the trem is the stiffest of any trem I own. Is there a way to adjust that? Only 2 springs on the claw. I hear you saying it’s light to the touch and that is the exact opposite of mine.

Hmmm that's interesting. I'm running 3 springs in my OS Original 7 at the moment and it's not stiff. Not sure if going to three would help or hurt your problem. The bridge also has two positions it can be mounted, so you might want to loosen the strings and change position heights. That might help a bunch, I think the higher position is a little looser. Also, the Strandy trem doesn't flutter the best in the normal forward position which I'm pretty sure I mention in this video. It flutters much better if the bar is facing backwards over the bridge, I think it's because of the lightweight nature of the bridge, the bar reversed uses the weight better. I don’t do a lot of flutters. It’s just hard to move. Being my first Strandberg I wasn’t sure if this was normal. Apparently it isn’t.

Hi! What kind of guitar are you installing it into? Most guitars need a specific rout in order to fit a tremolo and if the body hasn't been routed for a certain tremolo you can't just install whatever into that guitar. Besides that, it really depends on what you're planning on doing with the tremolo, how much you're planning on really abusing it vs subtle vs flutter ect. IMO the Ibanez Edge Lo Pro is absolutely rock solid, although all of your options you listed are quality systems. To help you, I'd need more info.

Gotcha, yea that's all going to depend on the rout of the guitar body, unfortunately to install something else you're going to have to take it to a luthier to really modify the body to install a different brand. You'll also have to do some research as not all Floyd bridges can be just swapped in and out as far as I know. Best of luck!

For the issue pertaining to setting tension on an Ibanez, I had suspicions this was the case and always shied away from what you confirmed are screw-in tensioners for that exact reason. If you get lucky and can find certain older model bridges, you'll come across a fair selection that allow you to adjust the tension via a small set screw in the butt of the bridge unit that you have to depress the bar to access. It works by simply moving a wire up against the bar, which in the case of my old RGT42DXFM, featuring the Edge Pro II, the end of the bar just terminates in a single piece flat end, so no bushings to deal with, and you can just lightly press the arm into the cavity because there's no "locking" end with the diamond shaped ball cut into it kinda the knife edge fulcrum posts that you have to jam and pop in and out of place. The tensioning system is such that you can dial it into the perfect setting that just floats right where you leave it, while responding reliably and play(/wobble)-free to the lightest touch on through to frantic fluttery dive bomby madness as close to 100% of the time with as close to 0 maintenance as humanly possible. God I'll miss that guitar forever...

Omg please help me I don't know how to change the tensioner I have this exact guitar and the only problem I have with it is the sustain isn't amazing when I use the whammy bar and the trem arm just falls. I have to reach round and grab it and I just want it to stay in place. I tried using an Allen key to tighten it on the back of the bridge whilst keeping it raised but it only goes through one hole and not the next one. There isn't enough space to miss the first hole and go straight into the second. Please help me

I have Ibanez jbm20.It has locking tuner. Mostly I didn't use locking nut and use trem.It's still stay in tune very well.

do you know anything about the gotoh bridges that come with the ibanez AZ series? Are they fully floating bridges too? I am looking at ibanez aZ427P1PB which comes with this bridge T1572S.

Thanks for watching, unfortunately that's a model I've been meaning to test but don't have any experience with it yet. From what I read online, it's not a true locking system and it's more of a mid range instrument so I'm sure the tuning stability won't be as bullet proof as something like the old school Ibby Lo Pro Edge. That bridge is made by Gotoh and they make Ibanez's other bridges and make great stuff in general so I wouldn't expect it to be total trash like what you'd get with a Sterling by MM (run far away from those floating bridges, they're hot garbage). Unfortunately I don't have any experience with those, so I can't give you any real feedback. They look nice on the website, but I don't believe they come with replaceable knife edges or locking studs so my best guess is they're about as good as the Floyd Rose system that I tested in this video. They have adjustable zero stop shock absorbers and are micro and macro adjustable with easy to access wheel and screws, not to mention you can instantly switch between drop D and E with single switch flip without having to retune the rest of the strings, adjust the spring tension and level the tremolo again.

@@aminorerror I have a custom 24 and a CE24. The custom has set neck and is my main guitar, but the CE24 is a bolt on and has a much better straty vibe when coil split. If you want check them out without breaking the bank, the SE are very affordable and have all of the same hardware except its cast made in china instead of brass made in USA parts

Totally agree. The USA PRS trem, when properly set up, is by far the most stable non-locking trem on the market. It even beats most of the locking trems I’ve played.

So basically that's what a floyd rose bridge is and that's what it does... I was hoping for comparison, specs, design, type and demos. I like the kind of bridges that you can just slip your guitar strings in through instead of the standard bridge where you have to clip off the ring of the string but the ones that are string through are often disliked by some pro guitarists. So my question is, are there quality string through bridges without too much compromise?

Bit confused by your comment as this video is comparing all three bridges with demos and a break down of all the features of each and why I like each one. Only the strandberg bridge is a 'string through' type, almost all other tremolos require the clipping of the string to lock it in place. Best of luck.

@@aminorerror Sorry didn't realized you had replied. I have a (now customized) Yamaha Electric guitar with a Floyd Rose bridge. Originally it had one that required you to clip off the ring of the string and had to lock in but it's missing components now since it's been sitting around for so long. I got a Floyd Rose bridge from ebay where you just slide the string in from behind the bridge without having to clip off the string ball and it's held well over the years. But the bar that adjusts the intonation is starting to wear out so it is soon time for some new parts. I've also heard about some Floyd Rose bridges that require you to slide the strings in from behind the guitar. I very much don't like the bridges where you have to clip the string and lock it in place because if you lose the block that locks the strings (very easy to happen too), you're done for at that moment... You'd have to order parts or replace the bridge altogether. Also it's just tedious to replace new strings. Though I do see that you also talk about other types of bridges so I understand it's more of a comparison between bridge types, not just Floyd Rose. And thanks for your reply.

My favourite is the Parker Fly one, although springs are harder to find these days. Can easily tune knowing the bridge is dead flat and intonation is dead on. Super easy to adjust/balance the tension. Push in bar with adjustable tension. Can set to bend up/down, just down, or fixed in seconds. And knife edges on trems? Why have them that wear out, use bearings like the Parker! The Parker Nitefly ones are basically simplified versions. Uses normal Floyd/Fender/Ibz style springs in tension instead of the Fly's flat spring in compression. Can still set to bend up/down, down only or fixed equivalent, but not so easy and no way to find the dead flat intonated point like the Fly ones (just like pretty much every other bridge out there though). Same bearing pivots/bar/etc. About 25 years ago I replaced the floyd copy in my Jackson with an Ibanez Lo Pro Edge. That's a nice trem, but defo not as good imo.

The only other company I've known that tried bearings was Strandberg and it seemed like they had QC issues and that's why they switched to the old fashioned knife edge design. I'm curious about the durability of the Parker's too, high quality Floyd Rose's or the Goth manufactured Lo Pro are so freaking rock solid my 25 year old J Custom still holds tune better than 95% of the new guitars I've reviewed.

@@aminorerror some of these are 25 years old and the trems are still smooth as anything with dead solid tuning (and not even a locking nut). I snapped a string live shortly into one of our songs, got a new one on and tuned up just in time for my guitar solo! (apparently looked a mix of very exciting and impressive from the audience 🤣). So with no locking nut, locking tuners with strings straight through the back of the bridge and it being comfortable and solid, I can't say I've ever found anything better and more practical/usable.

Could the Ibanez trem fit a strat? I’m building a guitar with a strat body and want THE best floating trem possible

With the stock body rout, no it won't fit. Even if it's routed for a regular Floyd Rose it won't fit, the rout is different (think of it like dropping a Dodge engine into a Ford with a Chevy transmission, it won't work). That said, going with a high end traditional Floyd Rose bridge would work great or picking up an Ibanez Lo Pro Edge would work but you'll have to talk to whoever is making the body of the guitar and get it routed correctly for either bridge. For the reasons I explain in this video I think the Ibanez system is the most reliable and 'over built' system so that might be one to look into but I've never seen a Strat with an Ibanez system though so it would be cool to see the build once it's all done! It would require pretty substantial routing to the body for either bridges, you'd def want to reach out to a luthier in your area to have them do the work and get some advice. You might want to look into Gotoh or Hipshot hardware too, they probably make a bridge that would drop right in and not need any modification. If you aren't planning on really abusing the trem, maybe just take it to a luthier and get a roller or graphite nut installed. It really depends on what you're planning on doing with it and what tones/styles you play as well BTW. If you aren't planning on doing major pull - ups on the bridge or a lot of dive bombs and fluttering then a floating bridge might not even make sense. A tradition strat bridge that's been setup well works amazing for most subtle tremolo stuff, it's on the more crazy extreme stuff that you need a full floating and double locking setup .

The edge pro is great! It's basically the exact same tremolo except that it doesn't have the low profile. I've played the regular edge in the past and sometimes I would hit my hand against the part that sticks up slightly when going for a flutter but other wise it was totally fine. It's still got the same great build quality and locking studs as the lo pro unit. Hope that helps, rock on!

@@aminorerror ? The Edge Pro is low profile. It got a bit of a kicking at the time because it didn't have the set screw in the post like the Lo Pro Edge. The Edge Pro has the most comfortable saddle profile of any bridge I've tried, with the Gotoh GE1996 coming in second. One thing to note is that the Ibanez Edge systems are cost cutting takes on the Floyd, with a lot of zinc/aluminium alloy used. The string housing part of the saddle is steel, as is the replaceable knife edge (of course), but the baseplate and front of the saddle is a hard zinc alloy. There's no doubting the performance and longevity of the (Japanese) Edge systems but they are lacking in sustain and tonal 'oomph' of the all steel Schaller and Gotoh locking systems. Swapping out the zinc spring block for brass is a decent upgrade for the Edge systems but it still can't go head to head with the all steel saddles and chunky solid steel baseplates of more traditional Floyd designs.

IMO calling a standard edge low profile is incorrect. Appreciate the input on the differences between the Ibanez systems and a legit Floyd, like I said in my video it's not exactly a fair fight as the Floyd system here is def a budget unit. I don't have experience with the top model Floyd's actually, most of the guitars I review for the channel is the affordable stuff with low to medium quality units. @@aminorerror OP stated "Edge Pro" which was a reworked Lo Pro that allows string ball ends to pass through the saddle and baseplate, not the original Edge. Apparently Ibanez did this because many of Floyd D. Rose's patents had expired and they thought the redesign would negate the need for a license. One lawsuit later...(!) The Edge Pro made it's debut on the Prestige series when the 'standard' 5 and 7 series guitars ceased Japanese production and replaced the Edge/Lo Pro Edge. I haven't found any concrete info on who made the Edge Pro, other than it was apparently Japanese in origin. If you find an earlier Edge/Lo Pro they had either Gotoh or the trademark "G" on the sustain block. I bought a new Lo Pro a couple of years ago (non FR license) and that has no indication of who made it. If only Gotoh would offer a lo pro version of the GE1996...

I was thinking this exactly. Im a dimebag influenced player, ibanez edge fan, and his playing doesnt tell me enough to even get an idea of what these trems are like. Was hoping to see a lot of bending with the trem and trem tricks I could go on basically hes not much of a trem player obviously, very good player though, better than me. But I literally shred while the arm is held under my pinkey so that gives you an idea of how much I use it just to sound slippery whenever I can with it, without going into more loaded detail, from my pov this guy doesnt play his tremelo XD

No Kahler?... ;) I've played FRs (original, Gotoh 1996 and Ibanez types) as well as Kahler (2300 and Flyer series), as well as non-locking Wilkinson VS50s and 100s. They all are free-floating, and all have their quirks of course, but I must admit that installation of a Kahler is so much easier when starting with a hardtail - far less routing needed, which helps retaining your tone and sustain so much better. Nowadays I tend more towards non-locking, even as a (predominantly) metal guitarist, because they're less of an obstacle to use and less cumbersome to restring. Tuning stability, even when dive-bombing, isn't an issue if you have a properly made nut, and locking tuners help too.

Hahaha you're not the first to ask about Kahler's! I honestly don't see them equipped very often, especially on the brands that I tend to review. IMO the Ibanez LoPro Edge was/still is the best tremolo out there; the most stable and the durable but I recently tested an Angel Vivaldi Sig Charvel with a Gotoh bridge (review comes out June 7th so shameless plug now) and DAMN that bridge could flutter. I've never played anything that could flutter like it...but it also had tuning stability issues. Def on my list of gear to check out, that and Sophia tremolo's. There's a bunch of people asking for a review on those too so hopefully I'll get my hands on one soon! If you haven't already consider giving the channel a sub too, got loads of guitar content coming over the summer and fall.

@@aminorerror Using a Backstop or an ESP Arming Adjuster (I think Floyd Rose recently began selling an exact copy of this for $20) solves any tuning stability problems if you set them up correctly. I've been using a Backstop in my JEM equipped with a 1992 era LoPro and this guitar stays in tune 100% no matter what I do. I've tried everything to make it knock out of tune and it just flat out won't do it

A lot of people I know, along with myself prefer it. I have five Ibanez guitars, two of them have the Edge. One has the low pro, one has the zero, and one has the Gotoh 1996t, I also have multiple guitars with the original Floyd rose, and five others with a Gotoh 1996t.

I was just hoping for a more detailed sound sample. I'm not sure how to explain in English what I mean. For example everybody seems to like the Sophia Trem. I don't like it, because, depending on the string gauge, you have to set up two little buffers(?), which are meant to ensure the return of the Vibrato into neutral position, but you can definitely feel the difference in spring tension when the buffers start to touch the wood. And I'm not a good enough guitarist to compensate, so when I used the Vibrato slowly you could hear like a "step". I'm sorry for my poor choice of words, and I'm thankful for your video. I meant no harm.

I was just pointing out the examples in my demo's are musical ones and the whammy bar moves are in the context playing a lead in a song, not just an isolated vibrato of a chord. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with Sophia tremolo's, but I'm hoping that changes sooner than later! They look pretty cool, and it's always good to see a new company grow and hopefully push the bigger ones to keep innovating and not rest on what they've done in the past. End of the day, it is personal preference and you'll figure out what you like the most!

Put a peice of rubber down inside of the whammy bar hole.(Floyd Rose). That's what I did and it works perfect. It doesn't come loose anymore. Or you can buy a replacement peice. To make it have a push in whammy bar.

If you try this make sure it's a decent rubber. And make sure you don't get it stuck in there. It's a cheap easy fix. And makes a big difference.

@@aminorerror thanks. You should question what the term float means, think of it from a physical limit standpoint then think about the constraints. A Floyd doesn’t typically is perceived to have more movement but it doesn’t the room for movement is a function of the body route the not the bridge. Ultimately they ate all just a plate of metal pivoting on a fulcrum yes they may have different feel but they can all have roughly the same range under similar conditions. As an engineer I find guitarist readily believe things based on personal experience and popular opinion.

No, the headless guitar maker Strandberg that I'm using in this video does have a full floating tremolo in the same style as the other two. It can dive bomb, pull up and flutter but as I explain it's a little different in feel and capability than the other two. Hope that helps.

My take away from watching and listening....The Floyd Rose is the standard, we've all played them and there's nothing knew there, The Strandberg, if it floats at all, is weak in my opinion, it doesn't seem to flutter. But that's not a problem for the Ibanez edge zero tremolo...from this I am deducing it seems to have a better "flutter" effect than your average Floyd Rose. (If I'm wrong let me know) I would have to personally try one out because I never have, but the Ibanez edge zero trem seems to be the superior choice based on what is shown here.

If you're looking for the best bridge for fluttering, the Gotoh 510 bridge that was on an Angel Vivaldi Signature 7 string Charvel was without a doubt the best I've ever played...but it had a lot of tuning stability issues. The Edge Zero II gives you the opportunity to choose if you want it to flutter like CRAZY or NOT, and be very conservative, because of the Zero stoppers. All you need to do is to remove the stoppers or use a shorter bar that doesn't reach to them. Very easy mod to make out of appropriate size ordinary steel Nail. I didn't stop there, of course 😈 and added a bigger/heavier brass tremolo bar, so now it flutters EVERY time I release my whammy bar, and I love it SOOO much. It's like the kitty is speaking to me. 😍 P.S. Also it's so much easier to adjust how loose the whammy bar is in just a second on the fly without the need of any tools. Tighten the bottom attachment ring with two fingers, just the way you want it to be, and you're ready to go for more abuse. I add an extra rubber (plumbing supplies) ring on top of the bushing insight, so it really goes nowhere and feels right. 😃

Only the floyd rose is available separately. Who wants tp buy a whole guitar just to get a bridge? No biggie, Steinberger "R" type beats them all - double locking, hardtail lock, headless, high ratio tuners, thumb screw spring adjustment, available separately - but they are somewhat heavy.

I think you missed the point of the video. I'm comparing the bridges that the different companies equip as there are other reasons why someone would buy a certain brand ie body shape, headless, neck profile and discussing the positives and negatives of the bridge. It's not meant to be for someone buying them 3rd party.

I had a chance to review an Angel Vivaldi Sig Charvel with a Gotoh bridge and I def agree, it sounded amazing and the flutter was the best I've ever played before. Only issue was major tuning instability but I think that was because the nut wasn't properly installed on the guitar I had.

I wish the 2700 was still made. it's a shame we are now forced to use this FR ... doesn't matter who made it ... the design just it not as good as a 2700 K

Not sure which tremolo you're talking about, do you mean a Kahler 2700 K? Sadly I don't have any experience with Kahler systems, they just aren't very common these days and as you can see in the thumbnail, I'm only talking about a traditional floyd, vs Ibby Floyd vs the newer Strandberg system. @@aminorerror Yes the Kahler 2700 after they went to the Large posts... BEST EVER ! Funny after the Law Suite FR and our Lovely court system banned the 2700 and Force Kahler to make the Spider Trem with the FR lic. printed on it .... But the 2700 could not have a lic number .... Floyed Rose just wanted that trem system GONE !!! So Floyed Rose will always be a company that couldn't retool to compete ...... And Kahler a company that innovates

From what I read a while back they ran into durability and reliability issues with them. The traditional knife edge is super reliable and it's easy to replace the knife edges when they wear.

The answer is, que drum roll, WHAMMY PEDAL!!! Prove to all your friends, that Tom Morello isn’t that great! And the like a stone solo is as easy as smoke on the water! With, whammy pedal! Tuning and changing strings is a simple affair with a solid bridge!

@@aminorerror A lot of non guitar players, aka muggles, think Tom is like EVH status. But they also don’t even know anything about guitar pedals. They think he produces that sound by technique. And I try to explain it to them, and they just don’t get it.

They ALL are history (finally), after VEGA-TREM this entire video - well, along with those trems - is absolutely pointless. And DAMN am I happy for that fact. Please do NOT believe me, just try one... Search, ts few clicks away.

Haha as good as the Vega trem might be, I def don't agree. Floyd Rose's aren't going anywhere; they're cheap, reliable and most importantly people know them, how to use them and they've been the industry standard for basically 50 years. The Strandy system def isn't going anywhere either, as they're not going to equip another companies hardware on the instrument. And lastly, the Ibanez one is the most road worthy, equipped across the line of high end Ibby's and is absolutely bullet proof. Thanks for watching, I'd love to try out a Vega trem sometime.

@@aminorerror Honest answer, I suppose, so thnx; tho we do desagree on everything. All three stay unnecessary peace of screw-metal bulge. VEGA-T is like breathing fresh air. Simple, EASY to operate, absolutely same & better feel & therefore smiling results. Peopla are after fashion of their heroes - yes, but VEGA made an impact. All three will have to adapt & come up with somthing or pay much more money to endorsers. ...& man, does this make me happy...

@@aminorerror Oh, you do have a point there, I admit that. But I definitely don't need you to try anything for me, I tried it myself, adult here. My two cents were about pointlesness of metal-bulk gadgets you call 'tremolo' & deep hope they'll be in the trash can as soon as history allows it. I suppose we'd disagree on how long that should take... In the mean time do have fun changing strings... And yes - make a video about it...

Dude, why are you so invested about others using a Floyd/Kahler/Ibanez/Gotoh/etc? If you want to use Vega or Super Bee or the Gotoh with the locking saddles, do it. I like the Floyd and the Kahler. I'm not upset that you're not using them. I know guys who still love Bigsbys and the Fender tremolo. It works for them.

Here's a guitar tech tip for all you Floyd Rose guys out there with the bar that is swinging endlessly around and around and around. Get you a foam ear plug and cut a little piece of it and stuff it down in the hole insert your whammy bar. Boom amazing what a little piece of foam will do you're welcome.
