Today, in "Caleb answers questions no one asked" he takes his 1897 Trench Gun to the range to pattern Federal Flite Control 00 Buckshot, because why not? Could you use this shotgun for home defense? Absolutely.

I just picked up one of the forbidden Vepr 12 shotguns, my local still had a few that he was hiding out back then he finally decided to put out for a really good price

I'd probably pick #3 Buckshot if available, or load it, since they are 25 Caliber balls and you get about twice the pellets.

I know the Germans complaint about the use of shotguns by US troops as a war crime, however the hypocrisy of that after introducing mass murder of civilians in Belgium in 1914, flame throwers in 1915, chemical warfare in 1916 and unrestricted aerial bombing of civilians in 1917 typified their conduct in WW1. Germany had only existed as a nation for less than 60 years at that time, it should have been dismantled, disarmed and occupied in 1919, without WW2 the world would be an immensely different place.

@@trenchcoats4life891 The empire was already showing signs of disintegration by the turn of the 20th century as more nations became self governing dominions. That trend would have continued and probably the slower pace might have created a unified India with fracturing into multiple sovereign nations and warfare. Britain had the largest empire in history, but notably was the only empire in history to willingly end its control and largely bloodlessly transfer power. Doing that in an abrupt manner caused issues, without the world wars, that process would have taken until the end of the century. Yet another reason why allowing Germany the means to start WW2 was a planetary catastrophe.
