Demolition Dave Drilling and Blasting

5 ай бұрын

The sewer outlet from the new subdivision had to connect into and existing pit that just happened to be on a neighbors property. This meant digging up the yard to lay a pipe and we knew that it was very likely to be rock there and that it would have to be blasted. Fortunately the rock did not continue right up to the existing pit that was very close to the house.

Im a big advocate of vacuuming, ive had lots of “are you mad?””are you soft” When sucking sawdust from customer lawns/driveways/patios, or vac’ing rather than sweeping up, i like my lungs ta…. And a decent wet vac is beter than any mop. 👍🇬🇧👍

Must be a pretty powerful vacuum and a great idea to suck the slop out............. Its always nice to see a perfect balance between the powder breaking rock and the shot just lifting up the cover a foot or two. Perfect.

That is really impressive. I did a little looking and thinking, and research on those very strong home vacuum power units. And just 1 of the stronger home units is rated at a maximum water lift of 140 feet or so, and you have 2 hooked together.. Around here there are a few giant vacuum trucks with vacuum hoses the operators use to actually dig holes in gravel or whatever after they jackhammer through the hard road surface ... I dont know if you built it or bought it but either way thats a really nice piece of equipment you have , very useful.................... I am jealous .@@demolitiondavedrillandblast

Brilliant innovation with the suction line! Anyone who has had to blow out wet holes was taking note of that one........aka me 😂......I haven't got the additional pre-separator yet though so i think I'm out of luck for now.... one of these days. Do you find a lot more longevity out of your filters using it Dave? They are a bit pricey.
@demolitiondavedrillandblast

Glad you liked it! You can make your own cyclone separator. Yes the filters in the vac rarely need any attention when I use this pre-separator, The post separator vac hose last a lot longer also before it wares out!

Nice one Dave, the sucky pipe is also better because if you blow water and slop out, some of it will stick to the sides of the hole or wedge up the outside of the pipe and run back in. Anyway, just want to wish you and yours a very merry Christmas and a happy New year. Looks like 2024 is going to be busy for both of us, mine perhaps a little less explosively (I hope)!

Dave I know nothing about this work. When you detonate I see a flash along the uncovered detonator cord. Is this just because the cord is not insulated? And if so why not? Is it just cost? Thank you for making the videos. It’s great to see work you would never get to see in normal humdrum life. Merry Christmas.

The flash that you see in inside a very thin plastic tube that is called signal tube or shock tube, this technique allows the shot to be fired with any wires electrical circuitry and eliminates all of the associated risks.

@@TrevorDennis100 In the end if the customer want the job done right, they'll be paying given it's explosives aka... government over sight if you cut corners you'll be having big issues plus the rest. Dave does it right within a safe limit. Remember AUS doesn't like people with knowledge of self defence/private owned firearms/fending off PTB's (returning the pain/favour) when the person/s used legal self defence. They near banned private firearm ownership.... yet criminals get them easy but the legal ownership have no chance!

I imagine that you could get a much stronger vacuum pump and put a T into the tube and use the venturi effect to suck without having that long flex hose on top and it would make the assembly less top heavy and awkward to hold. But someone smarter than me will have to calculate the vacuum and horsepower necessary to achieve the same or greater suctions. Thank you for such an interesting video, Dave.

@@demolitiondavedrillandblast Not a HAM yet Dave but i really want to look into it for my retirement which is not far away. Been in electronics all my career, played around with radio stuff since a kid & have a hoard of old comms receivers to restore. Get into a bit of black powder canon as a hobby so why i like your work in your videos.There was a farmer in the South Island here in NZ who'd set his milking shed up to free power from the Nation Grid feeds strung across his land. The power authorities found out & sited excessive Power Factor losses on their feeders whenever he milked his heard twice daily & made him pay. I doubt they could not prove it with measurements on a complex 220KV bearer in the Network & just says how they think....
