Absolutely love the plastered range hood trend with no upper cabinets. Have definitely noticed this trending👌

For the first example (the stone counter continuing down the front of the cabinets similar to the effect of an apron sink), it's not just for aesthetics. The point of it (and apron front sinks) is to offer protection to the cabinet doors directly below the sink from water damage as they are the most frequent cabinet doors to fail from frequent exposure to water. It's beautiful, no doubt, but it's functional as well.

I love the idea of the pocket doors. For example if it were a kitchen run which could otherwise dominate the living areas - just hide it away. Or, if you were lucky enough to have sufficient space and make your own bedsit within the house to retire to and get out of the way of the kids, a mini kitchen so that you don't have to go to the main kitchen and cramp their style when they have their friends around would be brilliant.

Exactly! I think they can be used to great effect!

Love the pocket doors! I would like to have a traditional pocket door to separate the kitchen from the rest of the home. Hence separating the smells of the kitchen from penetrating the rest of the home. I know I can do it it’s just a matter of money. I still want my bathroom done so I may take the money from the pocket door and put it towards the bathroom. Preferably adding a bathroom but that’s still a dream at this point. Again, another lovely video!❤

Love this segment! We plan to do a black fluted clad hood. Love marble look, but prefer quartz for durability. Wish we had a secret pantry! Kitchen & wine bar pocket doors are gorgeous! I see them in lots of my fave looks… lol

I want a Narnia wardrobe! Seriously, I love the idea of pocket doors to hide the wall oven. What about induction cooktops inbedded in the countertop? Is this trending yet?

Yeah, that might be my favourite of these. Oooh, that's a good one! I'm not seeing them as much as these other features but maybe it will make a new trend video soon!

Love the “secret pantry”. I already have an idea of how to do this with minimal structural work and adding tons of room. I’m not sure if I should use it as a total secret room or a secret laundry room..?

I think stone fronted sinks are for people who want a the practicality of a deep “Belfast-style” stainless steel sink, but without the stainless steel front which can look quite industrial.

Maybe that's it! Sort of splitting between the two.

Great content as usual. Do you know if we can buy some hinges to transform a standard door in Pock door (if you have space on the side for sure). Thbaks
@kitchinsider2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! 😊 I've never retrofitted a cabinet to have a pocket door. You'll need to create the gap within the cabinet structure, so a bit of carpentry skill needed but Accuride have the various hinges and pieces you would need (you can also get them Hafele).

Thank you for this great video 🙏. I have a question, can you help me with it?. Now I am studying NKBA kitchen and bathroom planning , And in Kitchen planning Guide 25 , It is recommended that we should have two-work counter heights in the kitchen , with one 28 in to 36 in and the other 36 in to 45 in above the finished floor . But I do not understand why we need it , could you tell me why ? and would it be beautiful from an interior design point of view?
@kitchinsider2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Without having seen the NKBA guide (not a thing here in the UK) it sounds like they are talking about Dinning height (28inch) Counter height (36in) and Bar height (45in). If you want to include some lower dining seating or higher bar seating as part of your kitchen design (as well as your standard counter height) then having the different heights makes sense. It could also be for accessibility reasons. But I wouldn't say that you NEED to do this. From an interior design point of view, that's really up to the individual and what they like the look of/find functional. Hope that help!

I love the pocket doors but have a husband who would never close them. I need cupboards and drawers that shut themselves when hubby leaves them all open.

Hmmm. An apron of countertop material down the cabinet in front of the sink? could protect the sink base doors from splashes. Natural stone countertops? I'm planning on a Norwegian granite, wth a contrasting south american granite for the backsplashes. It'll confuse the hell out of some plate tectonics geophysicist a half-billion years in the future.

I do like the idea of hiding the wall oven. But as a cabinetmaker, I've not done a lot of pocket, they used to be called "flipper" doors and wondering how well they work? I think in the past I've done them a couple times and never really enjoyed the process. Having said that, on my own kitchen, maybe it's time to investigate the options now available. I know there are other options out there.
@kitchinsider2 жыл бұрын
I used to sell some rather nice Italian kitchens (several years ago) that offered pocket doors but they were VERY expensive. I think now there are more options and brands doing them that it makes them 'slightly' more accessible. Go for it! 👍
@jonnybeach93222 жыл бұрын
There are three main manufacturers of these systems ,Blum (Ausrtia(new to this mechanism)) , Salice ( Italian) and Hawa (Swiss). In order of pice and my opinion quality/function and performance is cheapest Blum ,Salice and top Hawa. They all do one,two and four door options. (Ps I am a English kitchen fitter and mainly fit mid to high end German kitchens).👍

We were hoping to use the pocket door design with our sink. So you could hide the sink behind that style of doors. The cost was a bit much for it to make sense...
@kitchinsider2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, unfortunately any time you add more complex mechanisms the cost always goes up. I'm sure the kitchen will still look amazing without them!

I personally never understood why some, if not, a lot of interior designers keep devoting a lot of real estate to the kitchen hood fan above the stove. Manufacturer's have made them bigger, more slick looking, in stainless steel finish, etc. Now in this video they spend money trying to hide it with some expensive material such as tile, granite, etc. For an appliance that only "sucks air" outdoor, there is a lot of attention devoted to the hood fan. I am especially not crazy about the hood fan above the middle of a kitchen island. Most of the time it overwhelms the aesthetic of the kitchen and overshadows the aesthetic of other appliances, i.e. nice cabinetry, a slick looking fridge etc. My preference would be to install the hood fan flushed to the ceiling. I think manufacturers should start working on a model with a stronger motor, and that it can be mounted flushed to the ceiling. "Hot air rises anyway" so functionally, adjusting the current technology of the hood fan shouldn't be that difficult. Not only that, instead of a hood fan above the hub, one can install a cabinet instead, adding more functional storage space to the kitchen.

First thing I do in every house is rip out the stove hood. I hate them..and they are of zero use...out they go
