Interesting microphone setup. The noise cancellation is most likely using an algorithm that looks at high correlation in the sound. Your voice changes intensity and frequency so it doesn’t fall in that window. Any sound that changes a lot or suddenly will also fall outside that window. An example would be if you crumple paper it will not be canceled but any continuous and consistent noise like a fan or the road noise from an automobile while you’re driving would be canceled. As for line-of-site that will include your body being between the transmitter and receiver. Overall I thought it sounded pretty good. I would suggest running it on medium when you’re outside and since most people tend to talk louder outside the medium setting should work well. It will also help with wind and other unwanted noise. Thanks for your review. Have a great day and be safe out there!

Towards the end of your video, when you walked back to your camera, you said you played back the audio and that it came out "perfect". There were a few times when the audio dropped out, became scratchy or muffled during your walking away from your camera filming outdoors. So, how could you say that the audio came out perfectly?

I think 200 meters is quite a long distance. This issue doesn't decrease the value of the product. Any decent Vlogger would shot %90 of their footages within max 20-30 meters. Which is more than enough I guess.

Agreed, though I heard more drop-outs at 150 meters than at 200 meters. There must have been some interference near the 150 meter area.

This system has a few things going for it. I like the ultra small size and the eight hours of run time. Also a big plus is being able to CHARGE and PAIR the units independant of the charging box. If the box ever fails, you're covered. It would have been nice to hear the out-door distance test without the Noise Reduction switched on. To be honest, except in 'live' situations, it's probably best to leave NR off during recording and then deal with it manually in Post. A "Non NR" walk test may give a better indication of the system's true performance. But hey - nice review none the less. I learned a lot from your presentation ... Thanks! (I'm *tempted* but still weighing up other systems as well - though the price on this is very favorable). *UPDATE - I ended up buying this unit*
@TrendingReviews2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the detailed feedback. In hindsight, you're right, I should have done a non-NR outdoor walking test - even though the first 10-20 seconds of my outdoor sound test was with NR off, I should have done it with more scenarios. And you're right, I also prefer doing post-editing audio fixes with NR off, because with NR on, the algorithm sometimes doesn't capture the audio naturally. But overall I'm still very happy with this.

Greetings .... Based on your review, I went ahead and purchsed this M1 kit. I had considered the *Rode Wreless 2, *Saramonic Blink 500 Pro, *Boya BY-XM6 S2, *HollylandLark 150. They all have their pros and cons. In the end, (after 2 weeks of deliberating), I went with "Small", "Simple", "Fast" - The Lark M1. And although I have a lot of respect for the Rode brand and it's amazing innovations, I get a little intimidated with all the 'Sofware' approach in the latest Rode microphones. I see the HollyLand Lark M1 as a refreshing way to go ...... The only thing I need to work out now, is how to get true "split audio" into an iPhone. The Hollyland M1 I purchased (on Amazon) comes (I think) with NO cable accessory for direct connection between the Lark M1 and the iPhone's lightning port (although yes, they come with all the other "trs" / "trrs" type cables). I've seen other sites advertising the M1 as coming WITH a "TRS to Lightning cable" inluded with the bundle (for more money of course). All I'm trying to achieve is "split" audio. ie: talent no.#1 recorded to left channel and talent no.#2 recorded to right channel. I'd really like to know how to achieve this? - SO please advise where the cable can be purchased ???? *(Edit Update: The accessory cable in question may not pass a true "split" signal to your iPhone recording app. A converter cable ie: a "TRS analogue to Lightning Digital" should do the trick)* .

@@sonic7digiteyes209 so for individual use stereo mode and for two speakers talking use Mono?
@sonic7digiteyes2092 жыл бұрын
@@michaelallen6946 @michaelallen6946 Yep, each transmitter is a "single" channel. So stereo is achieved by using both transmitters on the same person. But with a 2 person interview, one transmitter is used on each person - sending 2 x mono channels to the receiver.

Thanks for the great review/video! What would you think about using this setup for recording 'sleep talk'? I have an old voice recorder, but it gets lost under blankets, and doesn't have any sort of noise cancelling. I'm thinking I could use 2 mics, one clipped to each side of my pillowcase, so that when I turn (I am a side-sleeper), I will still get audio. How strong is the clip on these mics? Would it stay in place on my pillow while I sleep? I use a Samsung Galaxy A51 Android 12 phone, so I would need the adapter. There are several apps available in the Play store that will record only when there is sound, so perhaps one of those apps would work. I might also use the mic with my Windows 10 PC to record audio to Reaper DAW. I'm not sure whether USB or 3.5mm jack is the best way to record to a PC. I also play a nature soundtrack while I sleep, so I don't know whether the noise cancelling would work for this sound or not.

These look amazing to me but they don't have on board recording AGAIN, without on-board recording I would not consider a product like this, the backup on board recording is just so important in the event that the transmitter loses connection to the receiver even temporarily, I don't know why Hollyland won't put this into their products as it would be a game changer for them.

On board recording would necessitate a price increase of at least $100. Then you'd be complaining about the high cost of the M1. If you watch the review by Engearment comparing the DJI Mic, the Rode Wireless Go 2 and the Hollyland and listen carefully to the sound comparisons of each, you'll see that the Hollyland sounds almost exactly like the DJI, albeit at a lower volume, and significantly better than the Rode that sounds muffled by comparison. I personaly feel that for the price and qualities of the Hollyland it's a hard act to follow... especially at half the cost of the competition. And the Rode doesn't have a charging case, as does the DJI.
@colestudios2 жыл бұрын
@@lawrencebeck4777 Maybe so, but if the recording gets interupted, your audio is gone or damaged... there is no substitute for the backup of onboard recording.. and just for the record i would never complain about the cost of quality hardware. That was a fantastic review, so thank you. I've had this microphone set for about 4 months now and used it for 6 videos but perhaps you can help me out here - why, if I'm filming a tutorial clip that involves a piece of machinery (specific a machine that operates at high speed, for example a food mixer or a sewing machine) does it sound normal when the machines first start up, but within a few seconds they sound like robots and almost fade out? I'm not talking in the clips at this point and there is no other sound in the room. I've tried this with the NR on and off both at default volume and it's exactly the same....
@TrendingReviews9 ай бұрын
Thank you! I do think it's strange that the audio is doing that, because I was going to suggest about NR mode being on, which would make sense why it's doing that, but if you've tested it with it off, then definitely shouldn't be robotic after a bit. I'm not quite sure why or how unfortunately, sorry! Maybe you could email their support team?
@countkostaki9 ай бұрын
@@TrendingReviews I did email them yesterday funnily enough - they replied this morning and suggested that I did the voice recording with the Hollyland mic but when it comes to using the machinery I should switch to using my mobile phone for the microphone (even though I'm using a webcam) and when the machinery has finished I should switch back to using the Hollyland mic....!!!!!!!
@TrendingReviews9 ай бұрын
Thats such a weird suggestion!! haha The only thing in that situation then, is if you record the video simultaneously with your webcam and your phone. And have the Hollyland Mics connected as you are now, but when it comes to editing the video, you can easily use the audio that makes your machines sound more natural, and then cut it with the overlay of the other audio track where you speak into the Mic. I know its a pain, but if its going to be such bad audio when using the machines, it might be the only way.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Good question - I haven't tried this myself because I don't have a USB-C Lapel Mic - but if I had to guess, I think that USB-C port was designed for power input only, and it wont output signals to be compatible with 3rd party USB-C accessories.

I haven't tried this so not sure - but if your go pro is compatible with supporting external Mics using TRS input, then it should work :)

I have noticed in your review and a few others that the noise cancelling tends to mess with the volume from the person talking in a random fashion. Definitely useful in super loud areas but personally I'd leave it turned off. Hearing cars or certain background noises isn't bad. Feels like video would be weird if I could visually see stuff that's clearly making noise but couldn't hear it

I agree - I usually tend to always have this off - unless it is really noisy to the point it interferes with dialogue, I don't think its necessary. Agreed!

Hi Thanks for Video. Did u check Sound quality c1 vs M1? Which better?
@RedStormPro Жыл бұрын
They are identical, just the C1 is specifically for iPhones with the lightning connector.

Interesting entry level kit. NR is more of a gimmick, which might actually work sometimes. But it makes sound too digital to me, especially when the algorithm fails. Having no option to connect external microphones reduces the system's flexibility. The transmitters are tiny but that big name and logo is terrible, if you cannot use small lavs with it, the transmitters should show lower profile or at least look elegant. Still, it looks good value for money if you do not need the extra features and versatility of other kits that cost two-three times this much.

Years ago we'd cover the logo on our cameras, when traveling abroad in large cities, with black masking tape. The same could be used here if the bright logo is an issue for you. Not the least bit of a deal breaker for me.

Hello. Is there a way to know the battery life of the transmitter or receiver?
@TrendingReviews2 жыл бұрын
Hi - there isn't unfortunately. Thats one of the downsides for me too - but as long as you can see there is plenty of charge in the case with the LED lights on the front, and you haven't used it for more than half a day, then you should be comfortable knowing there is about 8 hours of battery fully charged in each TX and the RX

@@TrendingReviews ahh yeah make sense. Thanks a lot sir. Been thinking to purchase this, rode wireless go 2 or the synco g2 a2 and it’s gonna be my first time having this kind of microphone😁 what do you think is the best choice of the 3?
@TrendingReviews2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! I haven't tried the other 2, and I've heard some poor reviews about the Rode Wireless Go 2, which was one of the reasons I didn't get a set to review. I've been a fan of Hollyland products for a while and the audio is so good, that I tend to use this for a lot of my filming now!
